You have to make the call at the moment it happens, you can get the upper edge in the right circumstances, but I couldn't do this excersise, when I see a gun I surrender, but more likely than not it's a knife at worst. If I have practiced why do I have to retreat. 2nd Amendment applies to knives too, along with the right to meet force with force.

You're probably thinking of a typical claw hammer, which really is pretty much too heavy and bulky to be practical to carry around. Ball peens come in many sizes, and a medium one isn't any heavier than a retractable baton. The advantage is that all it takes is one hard smack to the head to stun somebody, whereas even a lethal blow from a knife will usually take several minutes to disable a person. And you know he's going to be screaming for his buddies in the meantime.

I can see where they're coming from. They need better techniques than that to make it work. I'm in the marine. They train us not to go for the weapon using our hands, but to turn around,push the gun away from u(if they pull the trigger, they miss you), then you will go for the kill point, the eyes and groin! Use your index and thumb, and press as hard as you can so u can injure his eyes, he then can't see u, and then dislocate his shoulder locking in his shoulder and disarm him.

it will NOT be by way of martial arts or anthing close, the best you can do is have a projectile weapon, such as a gun, pepper spray, a tazer (if you don't mind sudden twitches of the attackers finger on the trigger) or something along those lines. but remember what is more important, LIVING and losing maybe a couple of 20's in your wallet, or having a VERY VERY high chance of being shot/killed and saving your precious money for the afterlife?

About 5 years ago, where I live, a guy got shot 4 times in the chest, pulled a knife and killed his assailant. He then walked to the hospital and survived.

The issue is that once the gun was out of the line of fire, he bothers to actually pull out a knife, back-handed style, and as his opponent stands there not doing anything, slits his arm and then stabs him in the throat. It's also very ignorant of how knife stabs work in law cases. It's extremely wasteful and dangerous.

You have to make the call at the moment it happens, you can get the upper edge in the right circumstances, but I couldn't do this excersise, when I see a gun I surrender, but more likely than not it's a knife at worst. If I have practiced why do I have to retreat. 2nd Amendment applies to knives too, along with the right to meet force with force.

Watch the video again. He uses a torso twist with his feet firmly planted. For this to have a snowballs chance in hell to work, he'd need to to move his right leg forward and to to his left while twisting. And he would need a large honking knife positioned just right on his belt. And he would need the gunman to blind. This would be a great move if Ray Charles ever tries tries to rob you. Other than that unlikely scenario, it's bullshit.

A knife is a lousy weapon to carry around for self-defense purposes. There are weapons easily available that have more stopping power and aren't as likely to get you in trouble with the law. A simple ball-peen hammer, for example, can be legally carried anywhere in public, and you can knock somebody into next week without being as likely to kill him as you would if you stabbed him.

Why not? It's more appropriate for a coat pocket, but ball peen style hammers come in several different sizes you can choose from so you can just get one of the smaller ones. An old hobo trick you can also use is to remove the head from a hammer and put it in a sock, and tie a knot in the open end and use it like a sap. Bounce that off somebody's skull, and he's not getting up anytime soon.

Where I live (near the border of mexico) theres this huge gang that just kill and kill (drug carts) so tell me, if i were to run into them and they have a gun, would you rather me have a hidden knife, easy for self defence, or a FREAKING hammer which is probably to heavy for me to fucking carry?

You're probably thinking of a typical claw hammer, which really is pretty much too heavy and bulky to be practical to carry around. Ball peens come in many sizes, and a medium one isn't any heavier than a retractable baton. The advantage is that all it takes is one hard smack to the head to stun somebody, whereas even a lethal blow from a knife will usually take several minutes to disable a person. And you know he's going to be screaming for his buddies in the meantime.

I said that it's illegal to carry a FIXED blade in a lot of areas in CALIFORNIA. I actually carry a folding knife. My comment was on how impractical and irrelevant for someone to be carrying a fixed blade. And no, even in a BAR fight or as a law enforcement officer, you won't be carrying a fixed blade either.

That's where a fixed blade comes in handy. A folding knife, even a switchblade, can delay you about two seconds. In those two seconds, he can punch you and you can lose control of the situation. He would then shoot you.

Right. The knife laws in most states are so byzantine, even the cops often can't figure them out. Regulations can also vary by each county and town. Chances are they'll either take you in and let you sort the details out in front of a judge, or just confiscate your knife and make you have to sue to get it back (which is pretty unlikely to ever happen). Who needs that kind of shit?

Actually no. I see no reason to keep a violent person alive after he has threatened you. Yes I will be the violent person in turn but that is how it is supposed to be. Anyone who says different has seen too many dramatic movies where the good guy disarms the guy quickly and lets him live. Not realistic and not typical of what happens in the real world. Also not recommended by professionals when in a life threatening situation. Additionally because the justice system does not work.

When you take the gun from him why not just shoot him? Or slash his throat? If I am held up at gunpoint I will take that person as a threat if he is armed or disarmed. In an actual encounter you will not be thinking on how to save your attacker you will be thinking on how to eliminate the threat and save your own skin.

How can you be sure that once disarming him he will leave you alone? If the threat of serious bodily harm and/or death is what I feel that full fills the definition of self-defense. It does not matter if the attacker has no weapon. If the attacker is still willing to try and harm me I cannot imagine why anyone would still try to employ non-lethal force. I'd definitely try to kill whoever the threat is. Do you really think you are going to be calm enough to think about law anyway after THAT?

Yes and No. It all depends upon the jury and which side the jury "feels" is right. An unarmed person is still a threat if you feel that he can take away your weapon from you or simply kill you without a weapon. It just has to be realistic in your eyes as well as the jury's. The Definition of threat varies for everyone. If you are tiny and have no muscle and you are against someone huge you would be very afraid of having some type of horrible damage left from him hitting you.

I can see where they're coming from. They need better techniques than that to make it work. I mean comeon, so many factors come into play when you're held at gunpoint, you're not thinking about where you're going to strike them, how fast you are going to strike them, or with what you are going to strike them with. You just want to be safe, your safest bet is to leave the knife out of the equation, and just use bare hands to disarm the weapon from the offender.

this is stupid! Look at his hand placement, it is all wrong. Someone really pointing a gun at you would easily be able to pull the gun away. And don't get me started with using a knife on a gun disarm. You really don't want to tale the time and effort to draw the knife in the middle of the gun disarm process. Learn how to do an actual gun disarm buddy!!!
