  • As others have said...the best and easiest approach to changing stratocaster strings. Have tried other techniques and in all cases...the strings slip. With Steve Bs approach...the stringsstay secured and do not fall out of tune.

  • thanks great vid

  • This is the very best video I've seen on this subject. Thanks for posting Steve!

  • I've tried many different methods over the years and this is the best one I've found. It is clean, fast and efficient. Absolutely no tuning stability issues whatsoever for me. Thanks Steve!

  • i just bought a standard stratocaster that uses a normal tremolo. never used one before. when i restrung it for the first time, the strings pulled the bridge up quite a bit, so dive bombs are barely usable. how do i adjust this (when i restring it)???????

  • @20000564 sounds like you put on higher-tension strings, so you need to add one or more springs in the rear cavity to pull the bridge back into place. You might also want to check the neck relief and possibly tighten the truss rod.

  • he should leave more slack before winding the tuning peg

  • thx a lot guys!

i've been playing a guitar for almost 4 years now and i've changed a lot of strings in my life. I've been using Justin Sandercoe guitar strings changing style and it was just perfect! (check his videos for seeing this style). And I wanted to do you guys a favor and try this way of guitar strings changing. OH MY GOD, WHAT A CRAP! Strings cant stay in tune right now and a whole set of brand new Ernie Balls can go to trash! Too less wraps are just a shit!

  • Croud Chant! yeah!

  • I'm not knocking this guy, but imho you need more wraps round the post.

  • not really.. more string around post = more chance for slippage

  • Hey I need a little help. All I gotta do is replace my E string, (btw I'm new at guitars), and I dunno where to feed it throught? Do I put the end of it in the holes underneath the guitar?

  • Either under the guitar or through the bridge is where you'd put it.

  • I've been repairing guitars for 3 years, been working as a guitar tech with live bands, backstage, onstage, even below the stage... and I've never seen such a shit way of stringing guitars.

    Impressive. Truly is.

  • LOL, I guess that's your opinion. Steve has been a tech for 20 years and does tech work for little bands like Nickelback. Hes licensed to do repair & warranty work for many brands. Used to work in house at Ibanez; and is a member of the Guild of American Luthiers. I guess your 3 year resume is somehow superior?

  • Everybody's got his way of stringing guitars. His way of doing it requires too much time.

I don't work with Nickelback, I work with bands who can't afford 12 backup guitars. Hell, they can barely afford 2 backup guitars. If something goes haywire with their guitar they're fucked, so my method has to be quicker than this guy's way of doing it. It has to take me less than 2 minutes to string a guitar.

  • OK, I'm with ya. I hear what your saying. I'm a bit confused however. Are you saying there would be a reason or circumstance you would need to re-string a WHOLE guitar in 2 mins? I can see one or even two but all six? How much time does it take you to tune a whole guitar? Your not saying you can string & tune all six strings in 2 mins are you? If you can do that you should make a video of that! That'd be cool as hell!

  • For some reason, fans throw sutff onstage. On one occasion, somebody threw a rugby ball, hit the mic stand, which fell on the guitar player, and ripped out 4/6 strings.

Apart from checking the guitar and making sure it's all right, I slightly oil the fretboard, clean the back of the neck, and restring the guitar. I use power tools to wind up the strings, very fast. Then stretch the heck out of the strings, and retune.

Once the other techie took a video of me. If I find it I'll post it :)

  • Do you really need lessons for stringing a guitar?

  • Why are you watching them then?

  • Well I thought I might've stringed my guitar wrong. so I checked. I did it perfectly the first time, so I figure anyone else can.

  • You sure you're not supposed to wind all the strings before you pet them through the hole?

  • ok i put all the strings but when i press the 1st fret the string vibrates and touch the fret and if i tight it more it breaks . please help these may take me a month but im gonna get it just need your help

  • this is probably another problem, you can´t just tighten the strings, you want them to give the right pitch, right? ;)

I think your problem is the height of the strings which can be adjusted at the bridge.

  • I've just bought those strings. The guy in my music shop told me these are one of the best. I wanted to buy Gibson strings and he said they sux, as well as fender strings. He said they make great guitars but poor strings

  • one question. what strings would you prefer for a rock/metal type of play? BTW- I have an SG.

  • Ernie Ball is good (easy to bend for solos)

  • really helpful thanx

  • thanks really usefull

  • What brand/model is the guitar neck rest? I'd like to find one like that if they still make them.

    Thanks

  • Thanks for the videos. I've been playing for eight years but I never thought of the tricks you use to change strings. Very helpful. :)

  • Is it just me or do you have a noticeable bit of Australian accent in your voice?

  • imconfused is thta a guitar for lefty-hand PEOPLE ????

  • no it not a left it a right for lefty like jimi hendrix before they had the left handed guitar so they just flipped instead they switch the string too

  • I know how to put it on the turny bit thing the nut things. but i dont know how to put it in the other end? its just a hole? do i unscrew them things? help please?

  • the bridge???

  • depends on your guit man. sometimes the holes are on the back of the guitar, other times there in the shiney part (the bridge) by your picking hand. still confused? get a guitar teacher much like brand to show you, but in person instead.

  • Thanks. Helped alot.

  • dude u suck. get better at explaining shit. how the hell do u wrap the string aroiund the post without it getting all gayed up??! and your not supposed to take all the strings foo btw.

  • Thank you the helped me i was fustrated at first that i couldnt change my low e string now im back to playing

  • Jesus if i would have seen this before i turned in my Epiphone at samash i would have restrung that shit myself and save having to wait a week for that shit!!! lol

  • ya there is a way ezr way to put new strings on then the way this duch bag is trying to teach

  • He is teaching the proper way to put on your strings if you want to do it fairly quickly, and don't want to have problems while doing it. I thought it was pretty informative, even though I've strung my fair share of guitars.

    So lay off a little.

  • Im sure you have, All I ment was I know there is ezr way to put strings on.

  • stupid!!! the strings are not in their correct sequence!!!

  • Try listining to the video, he said he was stringing lefthanded on a righty guitar.

    Fucking douchebag

  • Worst lesson ever, you went way too fast and didn't even explain your knotting technique through the tuner post in the beginning.

  • I have to agree. Went waaaay to fast to actually learn anything from this video. Shame. Looks like a really cool/handy technique for quick stringing...

  • orospu çocuğu

  • nice guitar stringing method. and i love the super colossal CD in the background

  • Looks like a very good stringing method! I think I'll use this one for the next time I put some new strings on my guitar.

Just one thing, I like to downtune my strings sometimes, not much, just a little. Can I still use this method, just by leaving more slack?

  • so which string do start to do the double auto locking thing?

  • the g string, cos its the 1st plain string

  • the lower b and e strings

  • couldn't really see what u werre doing... show more details and not that fast ...

only who actually knows how to change strings can understand what ur doin..

  • Everyone that thinks this is correct; do yourselves a favor and look up alternate sources for restringing. You do not thread the string in between wraps.

  • how should it be done and why?

you've figured a way that works better for your tech'ing purposes?

    would be interested to see.

  • Thank You! XD This is the last time I use a manual instead of watching a profesional changing the strings XD Thank You!

  • Thanks - great technique - especially on the higher strings.

  • Hm would you be able to use that method on a guitar with a Stop Bar Tailpiece ?

  • i dotn giet toftpaist u know?

  • thank you for this video

  • his method is alright i guess... i usually put more coil on the machinehead so i can tune down to CGCFAD like SOAD but if ur playing like Aerosmith, Metallica, Megadeth or some older metal or rock they dont tune down that much maybe half a step so its aite.

  • I used to dread restringing guitars, but I tried out your method on the low A with good success. Thank you!

  • thanks a million man!

MY squier doesn't get out of tune no more!! :)

  • Do you also recommend wrapping the "G" string twice when using an unwound plain "G" string? Thanks!

  • Steve,

Do you also recommend wrapping the "G" string twice when using an unwound plain "G" string? Thanks!

  • I think I can hear Steve doing the crowd chant in the background.

  • That sounds like Satriani in the background, thx for the lesson.

  • theres a guy playing some Damageplan in the background

  • pfh, squire ...

  • yeah thanks a lot, it makes so much more scense to wrap it first. this will make me seem like less of a jackass when i have to restring my friends guitar for him.

  • AWESOME TUTORIAL! thank you! you taught me to string my guitars with much ease!

  • Great, I've just strung my guitars and now they are all upside down ;)

Seriously Steve, thanks for that. I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and did't know how to do it properly. I just restrung 3 guitars and the last one took about 10 minutes. The trick is wrapping the string around the machine head THEN threading it through the hole.

  • 40 mins??? Your a crapy begginer

  • he said it was with a floyd rose floating trem you douche...

  • lol why is he putting the wrong strings on the wtong places??

  • He said he was setting up a right handed guitar left-handed.

  • Awesome!

  • Brillaince guys, great video. I used this to replace electric strings in 40 mins and thats with a floating trem!!!

Only other advice i'd give is to replace one string and then fit the new one, rise and repeat five times.

Thanks for the video guys, much appreciated!!!

  • What if the player wants to tune down to Db Standard??

Doesn't look like enough string is wraped around the tuning pegs to do that.

  • You don't need more or less.
