  • It is a solution that is over elaborate and could not be a formula for transforming millions of existing poorly insulated houses.

  • oh dear, that just looks silly.

Those panels could not possibly be in an effective position. BAD DESIGN. BAD BAD DESIGN.

I agree joe, greenwash, and not a very good attempt.

  • @dansphere I agree about the panels in the valley. I have a fully photovoltaic roof on my house and am acutely aware of the problem of overshadowing. Solar thermal panels do not have the same problem and could work better in that space.

  • @dansphere I dont know why someone flagged your question to me as spam. I am very happy to discuss Solar Thermal. If the roof is appropriate angle and azimuth (for the latitude), its a wonderful solution , gives us lifetime free energy. I also have a Ground source heatpump, and have built my own solar thermal panels to feed solar and air heat to the GSHP - it works even at night!

  • @dnicholsoncole I've been wondering how to combine heat pump and solar thermal technology. Makes alot of sense even when needing the heat pump to perform cooling as well as heating functions!

I know a system that feeds solar energy and GSHP energy to a central hot water store, but you're just channelling it all through the GSHP then to a store? Sounds great!

  • definition of greenwash - an eco-house sponsored by a corporation determined to build a new range of coal fired power stations

  • What a shame to do that to a old house.

  • Why is it a shame?... there are millions of such identical houses. climate change is coming, and every old house contributes more carbon to the atmosphere than new ones. With your attitude, people would not have been permitted to fit indoor bathrooms 100 yrs ago.. or telephone.. or electricity. We cannot all live in 1860.

  • Because it would make a nice old house look bad.

And if people all lived like in 1860 the environment would probably in a better shape.

History is just as important as the future, preserve the one, prepare for the other.

No need to destroy either one.

  • @nederland4045 If you want to live like in 1860, you have to live with no antibiotics, no electricity, cars or phone, and where slavery and colonialism are still normal. Surely not!

  • @dnicholsoncole I don't want to live like in 1860, but it would be good for the environment.

    Personally I prefer the 1930s.

  • @dnicholsoncole Too much history is already destroyed. Such buildings have a past, families lived in them, kids were born there, people died there.

Once you tear that down, its gone for ever.

Sure you can upgrade a old house to modern standards but at least do it with style.

What I see in the video is ugly.

I am sure all this can be done in a more historically friendly way that doesn't clash as much with the original building.

  • @nederland4045 Its not an old house... the one in the movie is actually a replica of an old house. But its intended to be an idea of what could be done to an old house.

  • @dnicholsoncole Ah ok, well if people do that to modern houses, its fine by me.

I just get upset when old buildings are changed in such a manner.

I would like to see people build a environmental friendly home that still looks like a proper old house.

  • Carbon neutral homes are built for more than 10 years!! We can do it NOW!

FEED-IN TARIFFS give US the POWER to MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN and get payed for the energy we sell back to the grid! The best we can do for the climate and for against always rising energy bills is to install solar panels, wind turbines...! WE HAVE THE POWER to make change happen! We do not need a new coal power station at Kingsnorth built by E.ON!
