  • where's the drug's at?

  • Keith Moon gave Led Zeppelin its name.

  • I think the Zeppelin/Who debate is so 7th grade....anyway, what I always thought was interesting was this:

Curly blonde lead singer with a penchant for showing off his chest

Skinny artistic genius guitar player/guru of the band

Quiet bass player who is in fact an all around amazing musician

Drunk, crazy but loveable heavy drummer (who died too soon)

  • I think it should really go without saying that which individual player or band is 'better' depends on what one likes to hear . These arguments are the epitome of pointless converstaion. Who was the bettr painter ? ..Michelangelo or Picasso? It depends on what you like to look at . I am sure there was competition between the huge bands from England to some fegree , but that's not what it was all about . Art itself is not competition.

  • Love both but I gotta go with The Who as the better and more talented band.

  • @yfz01 Idiot

  • @Sappyspartan Says the person that can't form a coherent argument.

  • it was Moon who helped with the name Led Zeppelin

  • @haazi117 or the who's manager who was with them the whole group there

  • except for the fact that each individual in zeppelin comparable is better at their respected instrument. Both top shelf but there is a reason zeppelin is one of the highest selling artists of all time, all the while being one of the most bootlegged bands during their reign. Led Zeppelin just hits harder than any Who song and I love hard hitting music. System of a Down hits hard for modern rock but nowhere near the talent as Zeppelin...especially considering the previous influences for 60's bands

  • @GDuBMuSiCk

entwistle was a better bass player then jones and keith moon could probably hold his own against bonham (it's a tossup argument). Page was a better guitarist technically...though Townshend is one of the greatest minimalist players. Vocally, Plant and Daltrey were extremely similar...though Plant's voice deteriorated in their later albums. From a songwriting standpoint, Zeppelin had more memorable riffs probably...but Townshend was a far superior lyricist and producer.

  • @deadhardy Entwistle could be a better bassist than Jones, but Paul was so versatile. John could play the mandolin, 6/12 string, slide guitar, organ/keyboard, among others i'm sure. Yeah Townsend was a great writer no doubt and great at the guitar because he was so creative. Clapton is probably better one on one, but Page gets my vote over all because of his technique. But you can't forget how creative he was and how much he pushed the boundary. LZ also probably sold more than both combined.

  • @GDuBMuSiCk

ya i love led zeppelin as well...both page and townshend were creative geniuses in their own ways...and both bands had top notch musicians in terms of rock bands at the time.

  • @GDuBMuSiCk point? Led Zeppelin and The Who are the two greatest rock bands to ever grace the world with music, also back by the two greatest men to ever sit behind the drumset, yes, Led Zeppelin is my favorite band as well, but lets not compare, and just embrace the fact that these are the two greatest bands to ever exist.

  • @deadhardy also page is zeppelin take it or leave it.

  • @GDuBMuSiCk thats argueable, you cant say bonham and moon can be compared, thats a tossup, two totally different styles man. Moon didn't need technicality, the who's music was too agressive, most of bonham's influence came from moonie, early on, could moon play with the groove and swing that bonham had? No...but we cant say he wasn't technically as good, we havent heard him play like that, and in his defense, bonham could not play the way moon could, he just couldnt..and for bass..

  • @jaqua524 entwisle is a better bass player, you are being biased to think jones is a better bass player, hes not, thats the easiest of the arguement, guitarists, page is the greatest ever besides hendrix, vocals, different, plant had a larger range, and a more..godly voice, I disagree with your statement, entwisle is a better bassist, and moon possibly is a better drummer, and he possibly is not, either way, LZ is the greatest rock band ever, followed by the who

  • @jaqua524 I think you state your opinions as if they were facts . Which band or player " better " depends on what one like's to hear .

  • @RisingSon011 yes very true, very true, that was my opinion.

  • can u imagine zep, who, and floyd on a world tour who would headline

  • @TheKalen486 None of them would want to follow each other hahaa..I think Zeppelin would be the headline

  • @lsunationalchamps08 i know stupid question its like saying who was better andre the giant king kong bundy or the honky tok man

  • @TheKalen486 haha great analogy!!

  • So this video answers a question i 've always wanted answered-Did John Bonham and Keith Moon ever meet each other?

  • @Conneisseur2 they played toguether with the same drum on 1977LA

  • @Conneisseur2 I believe, from what I've read (& seen) they were friends. In 'Hammer Of The Gods' there's a story about them together in LA, in a sports car (on the back of a truck) revving the engine, cause neither had a license.

  • @Colstonewall yeah i just read about that. its a good book but the band hate it.

  • Where is the "Drake" Hotel ....?

  • @Shaputy New York City

  • to me, very curiously page and townshend were tight friends. in fact they shared for a time the same chick.

  • @caesarcerf ....I think Page shared a lot of women with other rock stars in the 70s!!

  • 2 most talented bands ever? i think so!

  • How awesome, my two favorite bands. If only this video were longer.

  • i kno the 2 best bands

  • It's not that strange these ole geezers meet each other, as Jimmy Page had worked along with producer Shel Talmy, which The Who recorded with early. Also, Moon, Entwistle, Jeff Beck and Page have this amazing tune called "Beck's Bolero" penned down (look for it in the CD 'Truth', by The Jeff Beck Grup)

  • @cyburied ....as a session musician in the mid 60s Page actually played and recorded the guitar parts for the Whos "Cant Explain" and the Rolling Stones "Satisfaction"

  • @coltsuperocean10 wrong! can't explain, jimmy page recorded on an early version, later not used.

  • All this Who vs Zep is crap.

The twin Towers of rock. Which is 2 feet taller doesn't matter, because we can't see that high anyway.

  • genius reply !!!!

  • These are my two favorite bands.

    :D

  • along with aerosmith, mine too!!!

  • Hahahahaha!

    Mcmillspiece.

  • THE WHO!!

  • listen the who and zep are 2 of the worlds greatest rock band, both were better in there own way so there is no reason to be fightin over whos better

  • I couldn't agree more! :D

  • @TheYahtzeeClub ... Well put.

  • The fact that I think Zeppelin remains rock's greatest band does not change the fact that The Who were fantastic. It's dumb to slam The Who because they were great. Zeppelin in their prime were absolutely untouchable. I've seen both and love them both. All the hardcore Zep fans that I know also love The Who. Most rock music fans never either/or any of the truly great bands.

  • @sansured i 2nd that emotion!!

  • I'm assuming the slagger of the who is a yank!

whoever you are keith moon actually named 'led zeppelin' when he planned a band with page and jones wouod have been awesome anyway but planty and bonham made it what it was

    two great bands

  • That's not entirely right, it was Page and Jonesy who wanted to make the band, and Keith said it would go down like a Lead Zeppelin. Then they just changed it around when they got Bonzo and Percy so American kids wouldn't pronounce it "Leed"

  • Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page, and John Henry Bonham + Microphone, Bass/Keys, Guitar, and boomin' drums = PERFECTION

  • LED ZEPPELIN = PERFECT MUSIC

  • what song is this? i know it but can't think what it is

  • led zepplin= zzzzzzzzzzz the who rocks

  • nonononononono....zeppelin is amazing...the who is alright

  • ohh yeah?? well the guitarist Jimmy Page eats guitarists like Pete Townshend for breakfast. Bottom line, Led Zeppelin can kick The Who's behind any day

  • Hes right ya know, Led Zeppelin were at Woodstock, they rose the sun upon the field. Led Zeppelin are considered the best live band in the history of the world. LZ are mic swinging, guitar destorying drum kit smashing, beast bass playing gods......or wait, THATS THE WHO. And I was wondering why all the LZ fans on here were soo happy, its not b/c LZ was/is the best, its because in this video LZ was gifted to be in the presence of THE WHO.

  • Beating up equipment doesn't make you better.

  • The Zepp were offered Woodstock, but they regretably turned it down. And does not destroying their instruments make them a bad band? Look, The Who and Led Zeppelin are both better in different ways, but it's the unstoppable force against the immovable object. Keep personal preferance apart from 'my favourite band is better than yours', stop trying to find the better band, or just bollocks off.

  • LZ weren't @ Woodstock.

they were playing @ a festival in Bath, UK @ the time that Woodstock was going on.

  • fuck you. They r both awesome.

  • get fucked turd - both bands were brilliant you cock sucker

  • Music isn't a competitive sport. There is no objective way of proving who is "better", except because some subject says so. And there is no place for competition anyhow. You can enjoy both bands, they ARE legends. And Keith and Bonzo, well, how could I even dare rate them.

  • Wow!!! What a strange, brilliant, and somehow sad glimpse into the legendary past. Thank you for posting this gem.

  • what song is this?

  • Black Mountain Side

  • Black Mountainside (by Led Zep)

  • black mountain side, álbum: Led Zeppelin I

  • daltrey > plant, moon > bonham, (both are awesome) page > townshend, and entwistle easily better than jones

  • nah, plant, daltrey, bonham, moon, jimmy, townshend, jones, entwistle

  • But Townshend > Led Zeppelin :D .

  • 4 realio guys...they weren't better or worse persay...as TOTALLY DIFFERENT...and RADICALLLL...peace in the middle east my brothas

  • suraboyo., you're a retard.

led zeppelin is one of the best bands of all time and they are amazing.

plant is better than daltrey any day.

robert plants voice is amazing and i prefer over anyone elses.

  • i guess i like them the same but i think every singers voice is supposed to go with their band's style of music

  • wtf are you talkin about!?!?!

robert plant is a piece of shit

when he's live he doesnt put any emotion into the song

Daltrey sings the fuck out of every song he sang

plus plant will tour with allison krauss, BUT is too gay to tour with zeppelin

  • They both look and sound a couple fools these days ,I think. Neither one can pull off the vocal acrobatics needed to do justice to their songs any longer. besides ,half of the real Who is dead, and so is John Bonham.

  • i like this video : )! it shows to of my favourite bands!!!

  • Wasn't "black mountain side" plagiarised?

  • what a load of crap

  • so thats who taught zeppelin everything. . .

  • White Summer! (Song)

  • Do you have the footage of the woman having sex w/the shark at that hotel?

  • The Who couldn't hold Led Zeppelin's jock straps, in my opinion.

  • Pff rubbish, i reckon theyre both as legendary as each other, both got incredibly talented musicians on every instrument (ie keith moon - john bonham) creating spectacular musical masterpieces and influencing many generations of music

  • Zep was 90% hippy drivel Long Live the WHO

  • you have my permission to burn in hell for eternity and you couldnt hold my jock strap df

  • (gasp)!!!!

  • would that be The Drake hotel in chicago?

  • Conway Twitty was supposed to be the lead singer for Led Zeppelin but a fight broke out with him and Tiny Tim, so they went with Robert Plant

  • this is cool my 2 fav band chillin together

  • this is cool my to fav band hanging out

  • The track playing is Black Mountain Side from Led Zeppelins' first album.

Bonham & Moon were good friends throughout the 70's. He and some of Zep's tour personel were at Moony's funeral.

Zep and the Who listened to each other and respected each other. I've never heard Pete dissing Zeppelin in anyway. He does always say The Who were the best thing and will say other groups were not as good, he does have a wicked sense of humor and shouldn't be taken too seriously when he talks of other groups.

  • well...Pete Townsend also said The Beatles were a trash...so if he said that hated Led Zeppelin...who cares?

I love his music...not his musical tastes.

  • well Zeppelin (Jimmy) said that the Beatles live were just for watching them stand for an hour.. Because everybody was screaming! Lol...

  • liked the song

  • black mountain side

  • pot sessions

  • Apparently Zeppelin and The who hung out alot ... they were very similar

  • Robert is hanging out with Robert! lol

  • this is the story - Moon and Entwhistle wanted to leave the Who. They were friends with PAge. Page suggested starting a band with the three of them and finding a singer. Moon said that band "would go down like a Lead balloon." Moon was not referring to the lineup that eventually became Led Zeppelin. Moon's comment was more self-deprecating than anything else.

  • Isnt this same the hotel where the band got robbed of $180,000 during TSTRS concert?

  • thats a pretty cool video

  • this is led zeppelin song frome their first album 1969.

    called-black mountain side.

  • never heard that and read biogs of zep and moon! if (and I'm unconvinced) that's true, they missed a hell of a trick there! best rock vocalist ever? nah, not good enough...

  • Your an idiot. The who was founded by Roger Daltrey, who is the singer for the who. (and i can hardly understand what you say)

  • So you're talking about Robert Plant and Roger Daltry.. Ya, know, that's the first I've heard of that and I've been into both bands for a looong time.. probably before you were born.. I don't lend and credence to that statment at all.

  • mythbuster you are kind of an idiot. Zep doesnt 'own' The Who - they are both awesome. And Plant was never supposed to be the vocalist of the Who. Moon and Entwhistle were supposed to be the rythm section of Zep, with Steve Marriot as vocalist. Regardless, it never happened, Zep got a great frontman, The Who stayed intact, and Steve Marriott is forgotten or unknown by tossers like you who say things like "Zep really owns the Who".

  • mythbuster, you really are kind of an idiot. Entwhistle and moon were actually supposed to form the rythm section of Zep, and Steve Marriot was supposed to be their front man. Instead, The Who stayed intact, Zep became Zep as we know it, and Steve Marriott is either forgotten or unknown by douche drinkers like you who say stupid things like "Zep really own the who". Just enjoy the music, douchitude.

  • mythbuster, you really are kind of an idiot. John Entwhistle and Keith moon were actually supposed to be the rythm section for Zep, along with Steve Marriot as front man. In the end, The Who remained The Who (lucky for us), Zep became Zep (also lucky for us), and Steve Marriot is all but forgotten or unknown to douche drinkers like yourself who say things like "Zepp really owns The Who". Just listen to the music man - nobody needs to 'own' anyone. Good luck with your first pube.

  • MYTHBUSTER ?? You're a friggin idiot!! RP was a tae boy in Birmingham who couln't afford the bus fair to London when the high numbers(AKA Who ) formed . Own the who ? John Bohnam in slow motion ?? Jimmy page standing stiller than your mother ?? Who Anyway , anyhow loser!! Have fun with the Dungeons and Dragons lyrics though but-plug ! "there a lady who ... yeah yeah

  • Dude, learn some rock history. Plant? No offense, but he was unknown, last-minute third-choice singer... Page needed to find a vocalist in a hurry, and all the good ones have been taken... would have been still paving roads were it not for Terry Reid who told Page about him.

  • yeah and then plant told page about bonham

  • personlay i think your a cock. Plant was the greatest singer the world has known and if you cant get that round your little head then your a retard

  • Daltrey is far better the Plant Easy

  • they're both equally brilliant. I luv both of their singing styles. Why doesn't evryone stop this competition shit between bands, guitarists, drummers and singers? It's all fuck'n great! Would you rather it was like the 80's again where every band sounded the same? And shitty at that? back then it was a contest to see who could be more ridiculous than the next overplaying asshole. Zep and the Who are two totally different bands and we're all the more enlightened because of it.

  • amen my brotha!

  • i gotta disagree plant had a much beter range

  • man i wish i was there!!!!! both of my favorite bands in the same room!!!!

  • John Entwistle was probably giving John Paul Jones some bass lessons

  • Haha owned

  • Bonham and Moon in the same room...I don't know whether to piss myself or internally combust. That would have been an awesome jam if the bands had played together.

  • zep rule

  • nice footage

  • Doc , Doc give me my pills!!! Ilove that ARRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHµ

  • thats pretty unbelivable. 2 of the top 5 bands ever hanging out together in the same room

  • Two of my favorite bands in the same room? How did that room not explode from the awesomeness?

  • yeah thats what i was gonna say

  • This doesn't make sense... Townsend absolutely HATED Zeppelin. He outright SAID it in multiple interviews...

  • When did he say that? Jimmy Page was friends with everyone in the Who.

  • one time Townshend punched page

  • haha! at first i was like "bullcrap" but then i saw your channel

  • First time I hear about that.

  • Townsend hates everyone.

  • pretty neat

  • Whenever i think of the perfect band it is always a mix between the who and the zep.

  • to right allways the WHO.GOTTA LOVE THEM

  • Wasn't Keith Moon who said in responce to Jimmy Page's then The New Yardbirds, "Oh. That'll go over like a lead zeppelin!!"

  • yeah it was

  • whats the song, i like it.

  • black mountain side, be zeppelin, found on their first album

  • it's "white summer/black mountain side". Even though this is Jimmy's version, the original song was by Bert Jansch called "Blackwaterslide". Check it out, it's good stuff.

  • Black Mountain Side, Led Zeppelin 1.

  • Song is called Blackwaterside by Bert Jansch

  • somewhere out there is a recording of LED ZEP LIVE WITH KEITH MOON joining on drums...somewhere audio.

  • It's on YouTube. Search for Led Zeppelin Keith Moon

  • It's a bootleg tape called "For Badgeholders Only" from L.A. 1977. He supposedly plays part of the Moby Dick solo at the concert. the Moby Dick solo I haven't found on youtube, But there is footage of the exact concert on youtube, he plays tamborine on "Rock and Roll" lol. I have to get a hold of that bootleg though,

  • i have it

  • Cool find :)

  • yay for The Who...especially Pete! Gotta love The Who!!! They will always be my favorite band!

  • 00:14 Page's back

00:17 john enswistle playing his bass

00:26 short shot of page+ plant and pete

    00:31 keith moon

    00:35 Pete Townsend

00:49 John Bonham (with the hat)

Jonesy must have been in the bathroom..

  • They just forgot his phone number.

  • Actually, Jonesy hung up by himself most of the time and that sometimes made the band (especially Peter Grant (search, i wont explain who he is)) get angry cuz he travel apart and they would know whether he whould reach on time but he always did...he was a pro^^

  • LOVE ITT!!!

    THEY ARE THE KINGS!

  • Short but long, just not enough.. ;)

  • well plant is seen around the second 27 and bonham right at the end

  • To think of all that epicness in one room... If a mere mortal stepped in there, he would be incinerated.

  • Daltrey and Plant are best friends. The Who is considered the best live band although Zep may have sold more albums. The Who made their money touring, Zep on album sales. touring is where the real money is made. Both are great bands.

  • mmmm... is this edited?

  • What's so rare, Keith Moon suggested their name, for crying out loud.

  • I like the who better, personally i think the ox blows jones outta the water

  • I agree but their both kick ass drummers and guitarists

  • i agree 100%

  • I only saw Jimmy Page in the beggining, and that's it i never saw any more of Zeppelin in there, maybe i did'nt gewt the concept of it..

  • keith is the better drummer, but i love zeppelin ALMOST equally. the who is my favorite though...

  • every actual drummer knows that Bonham is better...

  • I think both are good drummers.

  • y la droga q habra por ahí jajaj

    q genios

  • I love knowing that they were all together at one point, just makes it easier to like them both EQUALLY!

  • Rodger was all like.......Hey "who the fuck are you?" and Pete was all like...."I think I'm intimadated, and Keith was all like.."Whatcha all drinkin'?"....

  • what the heck are you talking about?
