I like each track on the album but nowadays I don't listen to it in one go. Small doses for me. I can't relate to it as one big story, maybe because I'm not a rock star. "Be careful what you wish for" is about the only message on the album that rings true to me.
if you get the special edition cd of crimson idol, disc 2 has a 20 minute more discriptive story to this...he says everything he said here but tells more, it really is fuckin cool. i think you can find the story on here. check it out, 95% of it is a true story about blackie, most wasp songs were written back in the 70's believe it or not. some songs from crimson idol as well, dockter rockter, gypsy meets the boy, even for whom the bell tolls from the headless children b sides.
when i first buyed the album The Crimson Idol i thought to begin with, it was based on a true story then a month later its not based on a true story, its all about ultimate rock n roll suicide, good album though
You have no class you walked out on a show in New Orleans in FEB 08 after fans drove hundreds of miles to see you and then after that wouldn't sign autographs for kids..I used to love WASP but now you arrogant prick deserve to sink into the abyss. Dio,Halford, Dickenson smoke your goofy ass.Your own manager said you were a total douchbag.Fuck You Blackie from all the ex-fans from NOLA! what a way to treat fans in that still recovering area. EX-FANS chant this!
Ok WASP fans help me out here plz. I once read or heard (a few years ago actually) that the song Idol had to do with the singer being abused as a child and that it's in a way a short version of autobiography. The video here says otherwise. Elaborate plz?
As I understand it, the album "Still Not Black Enough" is almost like it was supposed to be part of "The Crimson Idol," but described as "Blackie not hiding behind Johnathan Steele"
Also heard or read somewhere along the way that Blackie says something to the effect that maybe Crimson Idol was closer to reality for him than he admitted before.
But I'm not really sure - never heard anything definitive per se.
It's a shame that this album didn't sell so well. I was so desprate to get these songs, that I downloaded them all. Then I went into an used CD store, and found a copy, and you bet your ass I bought that album. It's amazing, I have it in my car, and it's gonna stay there for quiet some time. Rock on Blackie!!
this cd changed my life. i have traveled hundreds of miles to wasp shows, and i don't regret one of them. i think blackie is one of the most underrated musicians of our time. his voice cuts through me, right through my soul. i always felt a aonnection with him, whether it's because we are of native american heritage or because we both celebrate our birthdays on sept. 4, i don't know what it is, but i love it!! keep rockin blackie, love you man!!
i hope you had a chance to the show live. i got to see it in february in new jersey, it was amazing, not only to hear that groundbreaking work, but to see it come to life was amazing!! keep rockin blackie
I truly loved this album. It is just a shame that he did not continue on this path. I mean, to follow up this honest and brilliant album with a sell-out called "kill, fuck, die", is nothing but a huge dissapointment. They are so much better than that and I think they should be strong enough to dare to show it.
I think that W.A.S.P.'s last three albums are quite good and remind me somewhat of the Crimson Idol. Don't know how much longer Blackie can keep this up, but 25 years is damn impressive.
Yep totally agree with you ! This man is able to compose a "Crimson Idol" and hire a guitar genius for touring, the next day he would call back Chris Holmes and compose K F D !!!
I agree with you all. When I bought this album (on the day it was released), it changed my life! Blackie did an impossible thing. He wrote an album that shows my story. The only thing that is different to my life is that I wasn´t on top as a musician, but me and my band got far enough to say we were knockin´ on the gates of the great labels. And one other thing is different... I´m still alive. But I think Jonathan is too. Listen to Still not black enough´s last song. He is still there...
"The Crimson Idol" is the best CD I've ever heard!

The Crimson Idol is the best concept album ever! Such a sad story about Jonny Steel :(
I cried just by reading the plot of the story... Blackie is a true genius!
Rock on guys!
