  • to show china that yanks can kill a satellite wit a much smaller missile, the chinese yap say they av kill a satellite, guess what,it was a ballistic missile size missile that chinese use,u.s use a small missile, satellite kill was done in 80's too by ruski n u.s,the yanks use a F15 that carry a ASAT missile to kill a satellite back in 80's,so for the chinese claiming they the 1st,sorry mates, yanks n ruski av done it 28 yrs ago.

  • each satilite carries a tiny amount of plutonium which when exploded creates radioactive material which 1 lb of it in our atmosphere could kill everything on earth. Why would they explode it? Currently there are 50 lbs of plutonium in space. No weapons in space please, we need to clean up our mess as it is.And what if we lost all power on earth? I fear to think of the satilites falling then.

  • Why wouldn't we want china to get a hold of it? I'm sure they're manufactoring half of the god damn thing anyways.

  • This satellite was compromised...

  • Guys, you know this was all to prevent the satellite from falling into the hands of foreigners. It had absolutely nothing to do with "fuel". If there were fuel on that satellite it would have helped it blow up.

  • To those commenting on showing China: What did we show them? That we can do what they've already done?

Afterall, this is by no means the first time anybody has shot one of their own satellites down.

  • The difference being that their shots left it's debris floating, ruining that particular orbit for future use. So from what I understand, because the satellite here was in decaying orbit anyway the debris fell through the atmosphere.

  • For test purposes, you're right -- we did pick a cleaner target. However, these missles aren't for everyday use on "ideal" targets; they're for war. In war, nations don't worry so much about the consequences or possible collateral damage they might inflict.

Basically, if used in anger, the US won't worry about how much debris an enemy satellite makes. :(

    Cheers.

  • It's time for China, North Creepa (Korea) and the sissies in Iran to pay attention to the greatest and most powerful country in the west. God Bless America.

  • it called a good show so russians and china will think twie.

  • SDI?

  • well..that was a HUGE waste of money

  • Your mom was a HUGH waste of money.

  • XD

    --------

  • a hugh waste of money? If your going to attempt to diss me at least spell it right, kiddo

  • It's "you're".

  • trinthakias, that wasn't a huge waste of money

  • lets face it, it takes wasting money to get the job of "defending our country" done right.

  • My previous comment was in response to

rhianl, however on the subject, one would have thought that billions of dollars of expense on these boondoggles would have long ago been victims to military accountants, since Al Quaeda or some other nation or terrorist would just have some militant agent walk into a city square and detonate a nuclear backpack or hide the backback and phone in the bombing from safety.

  • Let's see...to shoot down something with missile defense we need:

    1. Good weather

    2. One target

    3. No decoys

So therefore we have an impenetrable missile shield encasing our country and making it perfectly safe.

  • nibiru can lick my balls. The mayans are retarded and so are you.

  • If that was so, how then could it be the case that the Mayan king (Pacal of Palenque) also predicted that his ascension would be celebrated some 2750 years from now, on 21 October 4772.

Knowledge is a wonderful shield against the ravages of stupidity isn't it.

  • This exercise was conducted to show hostile nations and the world that the star wars program is for real. We just literally proved to the world that if any nation wants to shoot a nuke at us, or launch a spy satelitte, we definately have the technology and capability to shoot it down.

  • mikey, that's some ridiculous assumption. This capability is nothing new. Interceptor missiles have been launched from the central CA coast into space for decades prior to this. Besides, the star wars program was not based on missile technology.

  • Correct. It was based on laser tech being installed on satelites.

  • we dont shoot down missiles with missiles. we use lasers.

  • We should be getting body armor for troops with the money we are burning on this wasted project.

  • wheres my CNN I cant get it on the dish

  • If theres one thing us Americans do best its blowing shit up lol. I mean that satllite could have hit anything or killed anyone and no one but the US did a thing about it.

  • well im sure they know whos satelite was that i dont think its a spy satelite

  • How are they going to know that the fuel is completely going to burn up? Its going to stay in the atmosphere. bunch of hypocrites and double standards.

  • I don't think they ever expected the fuel to burn up. The point was to disperse the fuel into the atmosphere so it doesn't all land in a concentrated (and possibly populated) area. Now instead of 10 people dying instantly, we can all breathe the polluted air and slowly die over the next 100 years.

  • lol yay! :D

  • @SixFt12 thats just is not true but thats what u people like to do discredit the u.s.a anyway with your brand of hate that (other radicals in other countries feed on, you liberals are working w/ radical terrorist and just don't know it, you both have the same goals, you people are so smart, so smart to not see the big picture, maybe you can people counld find somewhere eles to live

  • hey dickhead hypocrite, anything reentering the atmosphere smaller than a football will burn up. Heat from friction stupid, grade 7 science.

PS. What happens to gas when theres an explosion? It burns up. And a direct hit on the satellite was made.. Hooah Navy!

  • imagine cars going that fast

  • Boom!

  • ]<aboom!
