  • Greattt you visited Indonesia :D wohoo!

  • Fried tempe and tahoe <3 With Gado Gado died she ate some of the trassi?

  • I'm from Indonesia...and I love "gado-gado"...easy to make it..who know about "lotek"?.. I love it too..if you go to Indonesia don't forget to go to Bali, Yogyakarta, Solo, Semarang, Surabaya, Raja Ampat, many more places I want to tell ...

  • btw, you can just use peanut butter :-)

which is what my aunt did when she made it

  • Gado-Gado may be the only dish from Indonesia that i wouldnt mind eating it everyday.

my aunt will eat it with cooked potatoes, eggs, cooked cabbage, fried tofu, mung bean sprouts, and cucumbers.

basically, you can put whatever vegetables you like in it. so good!

  • GOD I LOOOOVE those transparent pots :D

  • indonesian food!!!this what i miss the most when i just go study abroad!

  • actually gado-gado has so many options of vegetable that can be used. my mom usually uses lettuce, boiled potato, blanch carrot and string bean. it's more simple.

  • i eat this almost everyday love it :D

  • 5:39 Hey Maangchi are you trying to take away the plate from Mariska? Haha

  • Fantastic! I love gado-gado. Peanut sauce recipe is very interesting! I use to make with peanut butter, milk and chilies, but this is much better :)

  • you remind me of staying over night at my grandma's. She always makes satay with gado gado and home made kroepoek. That is shrimp chip. One of my favorite childhood eating memories. She makes a little different though, she uses Adam's peanut butter and she steams the vegetables. To this day my grandma's favorite thing to put on anything she eats is Indonesian style peanut sauce.

  • Do you have any good recipes for Tom yum soup? It's one of my favorite dishes, and if I want to make it, I would like YOUR recipe, because you are the BEST!

  • she looks more like a native New Yorker than Indonesia...lol

  • YAAAYY INDONESIAN FOOD FINALLY! thank you Maangchi for spread the indonesia's food culture~~ kamsahamnida!

  • Great combination of freshness and crunchiness. Yummy!

  • Looks great!

  • I want Maangchi to drop by to my place too >w<

  • Well, actually Shrimp Paste is important in this dish. But, if you vegetarian, you can skip the Shrimp Paste. Some of you maybe difficult to find the Indonesian one (fermented and toasted) you still can use the Thailand one called Kapi or the Malaysian one called Belacan. or... you can skip it but it will be less delicious.. hehehe ;D~

  • lol see you next time bye! hahaha <3 thanks maangchi and mariska! :D

  • Such a healthy looking dish. I love shrimp crackers! Once I can find Shrimp Paste, I'm on it. :)

  • now I HAVE to try this! :D thanks for sharing!

  • you girls really look like sisters.... :)

  • Maangchi~

I've been watching your videos for a while, and I just have to say that I adore your channel and what you are all about. You travel all over the place bringing good food and good company. You are the embodiment of what this world needs more of.

  • we have chayote in Jamaica we use it mainly in soups but we just call it chocho

  • Wow, she could chop as good as Maangchi! Looks delicious and Holland really loves Indonesian dishes so the ingredients should be pretty easy to find.

  • hi maangchi! can you do a video on how to cook korean brown rice? my mom said you cant use a rice cooker for cooking brown rice, and you have to buy a $300 pressure cooker -_- something tells me you dont. please please it would be so helpful for when I go back to college monday and start cooking for myself! :-) thank you!!

  • Yum, this looks amazing! If I can find all of the ingredients I will definitely try to make it!

  • maangchi, come to Vietnam, I'll welcome you here!!! come come come...

  • HEY, i'm from Jakarta, Indonesia :))

  • haha this is one cuisine from my beloved country.. infront of y home there is a stand which sell this one... it's very delicious >.<

  • would the paste work with noodles instead of veggies?? (had pasta once with peanut sauce at cheesecake factory haha)

  • @hijakaftoyl hmmm... never try it before but... i don't think it's will works well each other. Mee hoon can work well with the sauce. hehehe :D. if you use mee hoon (rice vermicelli), the dish will be call Ketoprak, with lil bit different ingredients. There are lots of Indonesian food using the peanut sauce. Such as Ketoprak, Batagor, Sio May Bandung, and Pecel. Happy Cooking :D

  • @hijakaftoyl Indonesian has the noodle version we put rice noodle, tofu, bean sprouts and rice cake. We call it "ketoprak" a bit different from cheesecake factory's thai pasta.......

  • Mariska, thank you so much for sharing an authentic gado-gado recipe. I have always loved the idea of green veggies and a spicy peanut sauce, but restaurant versions have been too "Westernised" I fear, so it is nice to see how to make it properly!! Of course, I will be adding a *lot* more chillis to mine! ;)

  • @TheSeraph74 You're welcome~ :D I will try my best to introduce Indonesian cuisine more. ;D

  • wow so damn great ,Maangchi comes to JAKARTA ! The place where I belong

  • psst glass chopping boards are the worst culprit for blunting knives...

  • @Annie1962 really? ow.. 0-o.. i don't know about it.. Thank you for sharing it. :)

  • 4:02

  • That sauce looks like NUTELLA!!!!!

  • This is one of my favorite Indonesia dishes!

  • I love this channel, there's always really nice people and awesome recipes! Keep on!

  • WHAT??? HOW DID I GET UNSUBSCRIBED??? PLUS, I MUST'VE NOT WON THE CONTEST. =( OH, WELL... AT LEAST YOU'VE TAUGHT ME HOW TO MAKE CERTAIN DISHES AND I'VE FOUND CERTAIN KOREN INGREDIENCES AT THE CHINESE GROCERY STORE. LUCKILY THERE ARE KOREAN G-STORES HERE BUT IT'S STILL PRETTY FAR FROM ME. WILL CHECK THEM OUT IN THE SPRING.=)

  • I LIKE!!!! YeP! Nice to see traditional stuff too :D MAANGCHI BEST PROJECT EVER! My inspiration rises thanks to you :D

  • This food looks soooooo good and healthy! And boy! (or girl !) you two look like sisters! Very good show!

  • This looks mouth watering! And Jakarta looks so much like Hawaii from what I could see of the courtyard. The only thing I don't think I've seen in the market is tempeh but I'm sure I could get it here. The chayote? I've seen it in the stores. Is it similar to squash? And the long-bean! That takes me back to my childhood. My neighborhood had long beans growing in every other yard. I think I can still get it. Thank you!

  • @lilasue1 yes, Chayote is from cucurbitae family (pumpkins, melons, and watermelon), Indonesian people call it "Labu Siam". Labu means pumpkin. :D

  • wow you two look like twin sisters! :)

looks very yummy, i will be sure to try makeing it!

  • Maangchi i love all your vids and recipes!! but i gotta say that i prefer watching your own authentic korean recipe than this one...fighting!

  • I just searched out an Indonesian restaurant to go to :)

  • Perfect vegetarian meal minus the shrimp...vegan minus the egg.. looks very good thank you.

  • yummy

  • Maangchi I love this video! I also like this dish, the peanut sauce is so tasty! :)

Your Gapshida videos make me feel so happy, because it seems that everywhere you went everybody had a good time eating together!

  • It is great for rijsttafel, the Dutch culianry tradition that offered native Indonesian food in the Netherland. People sit together. It's dutch colonial legacy.

  • saw this video and was like, "what on earth is going on?! i can't believe it, what she's doing in my hometown?!" LOL!! i know a person as famous as you can be anywhere, but my hometown? what a surprise! oh my, still can't believe, this is madness!! you're full of surprises, Maangchi, and i love youuuu!!

  • Thank you so much for uploading this wonderful clip. It looks very delicious. I wish I could sample the salad you guys prepared! ^_^

  • Glass cutting board?! EEEEE!!!

  • I love you... wowwww, I like you the way you teach us how to cook Korean and now you are in Indonesian and learn how to cook Indonesian... love you more. anw I am Indonesian and live in Florida.

  • All the stuff you make looks delicious =)

  • Yay, it's the indonesian video already!!

Maangchi, I'm jealous you were actually in Indonesia. I made gado-gado at new year's eve with my friends btw, what a coincidence! Mariska, you have such a sense of humor & skill. I wanna make video of indonesian recipe to someday, maybe in spring break.

Btw, in Indonesia it's called "tempe" and in another country, esp. the english speaking ones it's called "tempeh". And the fried tofu is "tahu goreng". Both are my favorite ever!

  • @cjesther Thank you~!

  • This looks delicious! You think I can try this in a food processor? I don't have a molcajete.

  • @PennyDreadfuI yes, you can make it with food processor. Maangchi made it couple days ago with food processor too (check out her website). :D happy cooking~

  • Great job mariska hahaha.. don't forget to eat it with "EMPING". It's a melinjo cracker that was so easy to find in indonesian food market. yum~~ :D

  • @Raymondcia I'm pretty sure that I know you... ahahahahaha :D Thank you for watched the video Ray! Sorry, I thought is really difficult to find EMPING specially in Europe or US. But anyway, the EMPING is written in the recipe. :D

  • I don't know why, but for some reason her face look reminds me of Jung Juri.

  • @awkwebum100 hahahahahha lol! maybe the make up~! :D

  • Mariska is really pretty :]

  • omg I'm so hungry :C

  • Hi Maangchi, why don't you visit Korea next time and show us some great food from there ? ;)

  • oh my god u visit my country

  • I love your garden beautiful plants.

  • Asian cuisine rocks!

  • oh Cmon!! When were you in Jakarta? :( I always wanted to meet you...great job btw!!

  • Ahhh Maangchi you went to my hometown!! Hope you had a great time in Jakarta!

  • you guys look like sisters!

  • Ur videos are great, Glad to see that someone had some tempeh in a recipe, I have never seen that before. I used to make my own tempeh. I love tempeh, but I can't get it around here. Oh well. Thanks for the fun and educational videos. - bri <3

  • omg maangchi! SO AWESOME THAT YOU ARE TRAVELLING ALL AROUND THE WORLD!

  • What is a chayote? I have never heard of this before...Is it a type of vegetable native to Indonesia only, or can it be found elsewhere? What exactly is this? I love your videos!

  • @ScriptorObscura - Chayote is a type of squash. You can find it in the southern U.S, specificly anywhere with a large hispanic population. I had no idea they ate it in Indonesia! So, I guess we both learned something! Thanks Maangchi!

  • @evilbarb Thank you for the explanations. :D we have it here the small one on also the big one.

  • @ScriptorObscura I live in Kentucky (USA) and I have bought chayote at Whole Foods, Choi's Korean Market, Viet Hoa, Walmart and Meijer. I used to live in Vietnam and we added chayote to many dishes. Therefore, to answer your question, chayote is not only unique to Indonesia.

  • what?! u're in jakarta now and u don't do a meet up.. i've been envying people in us for ur meet up and drooling for the korean food u made when i lived in milan.. and now i moved back to jakarta and here u are.. ( T __ T ) hahaha.. anyway nice u wearing a kebaya.. beautiful..

  • Woooo gado gado!!

  • Thank you very much for your nice comments! I just posted the written recipe on my website now. Check out the photos of each ingredient. It's very easy to make if you use a food processor. I made it the other day. Happy cooking!

  • wow, you even check it on Wiki..but, anyway, here in Indonesia, we usually just call it tempe. I missed the Gapshida, but I would really be so happy if you would be so kind to have another Gapshida in Indonesia :)

  • Fight!

You went as far as Jakarta and made something traditional! Yay! If there's one thing I love with gado-gado, it's the keropok.
