It works. In the 70's we broke down on Highway 1 along California's coast. Couldn't get a car to stop. Then, my girlfriend, now wife, said wait behind those bushes...."a car will stop for me...". The next one did.
What a great period in filmmaking :D I miss the thirties and forties and I wasn't even there! 1:14 cracked me up with Clark Gable's face...what a classic scene.
Back in those days, showing legs was a big thing..
She did not want to do this scene, but when the producer was getting some one else to show her leg, then she decided she will show her leg off.She did not want any one to think that was n't her leg
Omg thats one of my fav scenes that and when they get into that car and the guy starts SINGING omg I was dying when he did that....I have to find that part on here somewhere.
@WSenator1 I don't think Bugs "stole" anything from anyone. There ain't no animation character that isn't inspired by someone, famous or not. Shere-Khan was Basil Rathbone for instance. Clark Gable was an inspiration for Bugs' attitude. That's all. That's no stealing, that's how it works. I'm sure Gable had someone in mind when he found out his acting for this film, too.
My fav scene of this movie. I bet I've seen it 50 times and I'm never tired of it. I love Clark's reaction when she puts her leg out - haha! And 1:59 is hilarious!
shes hot

Nowadays, she'd have to take all her clothes off before a car would stop!

The creator of Bugs Bunny admitted that he got the idea from Gable in this film.

@BigMPChris Heck yes. Not to mention she wanted her regular salary doubled. $50,000 for that matter.

Timeless! I love how Capra created this bucolic scene in the country, using rack focus and meadowlarks chirping. Tremendously evocative!

Claudette Colbert holds her own with Clark Gable. She was a natural when it came to being an actress.

Do you realize what he's doing while he's eating the carrot? He's imitating BUGS BUNNY!! LOL!!

Or Bugs Bunny is imitating him....

@javimu111 - Correction, Ace. This movie was made in 1934. Bugs Bunny didn't come along until '40. I'm guessing Bugs stole from Gable!
