I alwways feel like this is a song about the first time getting high. And how its incredible, but it changes your life more then you realize, because you've explored a place you'd never seen before. Like a lot of their songs, it glorifies the party life, but also shows its emptiness.

The lyrics are about a man who remembers how the previous night he and his friends went to a party and after getting high on LSD, he and his friends went on a dope trip across the city. Upon waking up the next morning the man realizes his night of partying has left behind a long trail of troubles for him and he muses about how he is "not Ulysses" and how he'll never fix these problems and how he's "never going home".

The Greek hero Ulysses helped destroy Troy by devising a wooden horse. He finally made it back to his wife by one of the many ways he tried during a tough journey. This song is about a man who leaves home because he's bored and goes to search new ways of life for him, thinking he'll also find a figurative way back home. His adventure takes place in a single night but changes him or things enough to permanently prevent him from feeling at home at what used to be his home.
