These so called "expert doctors" need to learn about "Social Programming" to which everyone is subjected to everyday (Subconsciously), and also learn about how "Social Programming" affects the "Reptilian Brain" or R-Complex. This bahaviour is typical of individuals being forced into their lower survival instincts because of various fears on a subconscious level. Re-programming the subconscious mind (hypnosis), can help very much in these cases.
I'm counting patterns on the wall, I think it is up to seven or 10. I do not get anxious, I do know what I'm doing, I'm just doing it from time to time, it kinda relaxes me in a way. What's that?
I was diagnosed with OCD when I was twelve years old, i got rid of it and now in later years (currently 18) it got back, and its really bad. I've been so ashamed for my thoughts that I haven't been able to find strength to get help and get rid of them, but now I'm ready and I'm so sick waking up every morning with the same feeling and hoping everything will get better or I'm in the next step to going insane. GET HELP AND DONT LET OCD CONTROL YOUR LIFE, TIME TO GET RID OF MY OCD FOREVER!
@Jockeboxing are you taking any medication...and if so do you feel it has caused any abnormal effects to your body/mind? i am thinking about taking celexa for my OCD but am worried about the effects during brain development. please give feedback on how you feel. please and thank you.
CoksAZ I agree, OCD is not stoppable. Esp, with cases that are severe. I have had ocd for 18 years or so. And, nothing helps. I just try and live with it.
my ocd consists of me having to make sure things are lined up also i have to make sure when i touch things i do so in an upward motion even if, for instance, i turn the light switch off and its pointing down i have to pretend i switch it up or i get thoughts of the devil. i also cant have things on odd numbers the only odd number i use is 5. i dont think im too bad its just very annoying.
I have ocd... I always pinch my nose every minute, i shake after i pee for a minute, i count the amount of steps i take and if i forget to count i have to walk all the way back, and before i sleep i have to keep everything lined up and organized
I'm not really sure but I think I have a very very mild ocd because sometimes after I do something like after cleaning my shoe or hand with a tissue , I feel like I need to wash my hands immediately
My OCD involves even numbers. Numbers that I have control over have to fall on an even number. To the point, that I will do a numerology game to make numbers fall on an even number. Then I have to make sure things in my room are in a particular spot. If anything is slightly askew, then I will obsess and keep adjusting it until I feel like it is in the right place.
im watching this cause howie mandel has this and i dont know what it is and my dad is keep askin me what it is and then i would say "i dont know" and then he would start shouting, "THEN WHY DOES HE NEED KIMOTHERAPY?!?" so im watchin this.
Before I type on the keyboard, I have to type in a random series of letters. (IE fdjklafdsja) I also squint every few seconds. Keep in mind that I am 13, and that this is a major inconvenience.
Are there any levels of OCD? I think I may have a very very mild ocd. I always have to make sure the fridge is closed, I have to double check to make sure my doors are locked.
I have ocd severely but i have a question, is there a ocd problem where your literally in love/ obsessed with a fictional characther because thats my current struggle.. and just to continue F YOU OCD F YOU....
I HAVE THE SICKEST OCD, BUT THANK GOD I FOUND Zolpidem (Ambien, Stilnox) . IT RELEAXES U FOR ABOUT 5,, HOURS AND UR OCD VANISHES FOR SOMETIME, ITS NOT A PERMENANT CURE BUT U SHUD DEFINITELY TRY DIS TILL U RECOVER, NO MEDICINE WORKDED ON ME BUT DIS

Now I gotta be washing my hands everytime I feel I touched something with germs, I use Lysol for everything! Also if I buy something that later I see on sale either there or somewhere else, i have to return it to get the deal and not feel ripped off.

well said. sometimes I'm tired of being so scared and nervous but other times I can't imagine life without it. I feel like the second I stop something bad will happen.
I don't know if I have OCD. My nails look so horrible. I bite them even on the skin (I know it's gross). I became self-conscious because other people in my school have perfect nails and can get manicures. So I don't know why but I started swallowing ALOT so it looks like I'm nervous. Then again I bite my nails but I only resumed to do it at home. Then afterwards, I have this one piece of clothing with garter on it and I can't go through the day without touching it for more than a minute.......
If you feel the need to touch this piece of clothing with the garter or something bad will happen, it's probably a good indicator of OCD. It doesn't have to be restricted to this, it can be other things you need to do to ease your anxiety.
@kickthefaucet The OCD Project is using an older form of OCD treatment called Exposure and Response Prevention which, frankly, can treat the sufferer cruelly. Dr. Jeffery Schwartz at UCLA has developed a much more civilized and more effective OCD treatment available free and online (Google: Dr. Jeffery Schwartz 4 steps). The treatment is intended to be self-applied, i.e. you are your own therapist.
@kickthefaucet I'm sorry but you cannot stop OCD, you can live with it, sometimes to a point where you don't notice it because you have spent years training yourself to avoid obsessions and/or compulsions. I have been battling OCD for 7 years since I acknowledged it (as well a severely crippling anxiety disorder that roots out to depression) and have I never and unfortunately will never get rid of it completely or even partially. It saddens me to say it, but it is true.
@CoksAZ Please view the first 12 minutes of the YouTube video "Changing your Mind" and read Dr. Norman Doidge's book "The Brain that Changes itself" and Dr. Jeffery Schwartz's book "Brain Lock" They describe a highly effective treatment that specifically trains you NOT to avoid your obsessions and compulsions. You are absolutely right when you write that cannot stop OCD when you continue training yourself to avoid obsessions and compulsions -- doing so only reenforces the OCD.

@applefanboy209 That isn't really OCD, that's just your personality. OCD is more of a disorder where you have to keep repeating the same things over and over again. And yes, OCD is not a very great thing to have.
@JarHarJar I've noticed that people with OCD (at least myself) are overly aware of things around us, I guess in certain ways that's a good thing... "Beneath all evil, there is good" or vice-versa :p

I've had it for at least 12 years... it's awful. It can get really, really, really bad. It can make you feel alone, depressed and useless. I take pills and they work pretty well. So now I'm feeling better. But I have to admit, sometimes you just really want to... well, you know what.
i have a cousin that is scared of dirt and germs and he is always blowing his nose every 10 minutes non stop and its starting to get annoying i tell him to stop but he tells me he does that to get all the dirt out of him i thing he has OCD can someone held please
This is what happens to me... Ok, so every single time I do something my brain tells me I have to do it a certain way or alter it in someway or else I like freak out and/or think something bad is going to happen. Is this OCD?

@coolysteph : I don't get told that much, at home my mom will make fun of me, but at school, and in public, I rarely touch anything. xDD My mom yelled at me, "Sick, sick, sick!"

I am a very young girl, and I have OCD. Here are some of the symptoms that I have that they mentioned in the video.
OBSESSIVE THOUGHTS:
*Fear of causing harm
*Sexual/religious/violent thoughts (To be exact, violent thoughts)
OBSESSIVE BEHAVIORS:
*Extreme Cleaning
*Ordering/Arranging
AND THIS IS THE ONE THAT I HAVE MOST PROBLEMS WITH:
*Mental rituals
I would like to know if there's a way to stop OCD and if so, how?
