@HardyHarz. In what year should we judge Greg's voice? In the 2011, or early in his career? His voice was better on albums, such as, "Suffer" and "No Control". But, our voices change as we age. Bowie can't sing "Life on Mars" like he use too. Oh well.
The voice thing, is that generally, people are used to auto tuning these days. The singer can sing with any BS flair he wants- and auto tuning will fix all their problems. Greg comes from the era where people actually had to sing. Also- the genius comes from the subtleties in the melodies- not some gimmicky scream or trick.
It's easy to see how much fun Greg GRAFFIN, not Gaffin has fun with this song; just look at his face one minute into this performance haahah the guy almost starts cracking up in laughter! That all by itself is punk rock. That he really enjoys it and doesn't perceive it solely as work is a real testament to their (hopefully unstoppable) longevity. Impossible to fake Epic punk rock and what you're seeing here is Living History, people! So killing it still, after all these years; unreal.
@CarpetNipples I LOVE Rise Against, but I also LOVE Bad Religion, and I don't hate you because that would be fucking stupid to hate someone, because of their outlook on someones singing voice.
@MrBatManIsAPunk Heh, I almost forgot some people are decent human beings and use their brains. Hopefully others follow suit. Thank you, sir, for being a decent person and not persecuting me for having a different opinion.
Greg is smarter than all of his fans, but still loves them all. I've seen them many times and every show is grade A, from 1987-2011 and beyond for me. Greatest punk band ever!
Btw everyone I obviously love Greg Graffin and his voice. It's just a pity that they've been my favorite band since I was a child and literally no one I talk to, even purported "punk" fans, really gives BR a chance.
I can't imagine any other voice backing these songs. All the bands that cover BR songs give me chills because the vocals just don't match the demeanor of the lyrics.
It's like Greg has a professor's (which he is) voice that matches the content of the lyrics. It's a perfect fit. I grew up listening to this guy!
@Chubigans Although Greg doesn't have a spectacular voice (like Tim from Rise Against), he still has a good voice. Anyone who hates Bad Religion either doesn't appreciate their intelligence, or is too stupid to agree with what they say.
@bowling4soup35 LOL are you fucking serious ? you think the Rise Against singer has a better voice than Graffin ? I hate to break it to you but Graffin has a better voice both in studio and live , Rise Against they sound good in studio but live the singer sucks .
@bowling4soup35 well, not to call u stupid, but it seems like ur missing the point to, its not about blindly agreeing, its about questioning, its about thinking for urself, Greg doesn't want a blind army of unconditional followers, he wants individuals who think about things for themselves an question everything they come across, including him, he is not right about everything, so y should you just agree with him, i know he is incredibly intelligent, but he is not some sort of all knowing deity
@bowling4soup35 more or less what I am trying to say is everyone is allowed their own oppinion, u can love the band, someone else can hate it, why are you complaining about it and calling them stupid? They may be ignorant of the true meaning of the music, but in a way it seems you are too, like you are a person just listening because you like the noise and energy and you like to look cool by listening to them, and there really isnt anything wrong with that, just saying, stop being so judgemental
@Chubigans lol bad religion is just old, in the chronological way ofcourse! ^^ that makes many people think they suck! i dont know many people either who listen minor threat and black flag, while they are kind of the best in their genre ^^
@Chubigans i appreciate yur opinion but in my opinon everyone yu know should eat a big lunch go swim in the ocean cramp up drown and get eaten by sharks
@Chubigans Yer friends are absolutely wrong if they think that Graffin has a horrible/boring singing voice. I'd argue that live he's a bit to stiff and could add a little more energy himself as a performer, but as far as a singer, he is probably the most talented and versatile singer in all of punk rock.
I'm sure you're fine, I'm just saying that being able to play rapid punk beats isn't really hard once you've got it down. It's not hard, it just takes work. Not particularly hard work.
I wonder why people don't really notice that a lot of older metal and punk have similar roots. If you look at songs like Ride The Lightning and Fight Fire With Fire by Metallica you get punk lyrics on metal notes. Now, can we find something serious to argue about, or we can whine about arbitrarily labeling music.
@laughingskull931 Yeah, I know BR and heavy metal well enough to know they're a melodic harcore band: that why I used the word "does" instead of "is".
But come on, have you heard the song? This is not punk rock/hardcore, this one is pure heavy metal. This one song only. That's what I meant. I like it very much.
I was speaking about Sinister Rouge. I agree it isn't heavy metal per se, but it seems to me it's BR take on heavy metal. It begins with melodic singing, then metalesque drum roll at 1:11 followed by double kick drums and repetitive fast guitar picking, heavir riff than BR's usal at 1:21. 25s of normal BR then back to the heavy stuff at 1:47 , the list goes on...
It isn't heavy metal nor your usual BR, it falls in between, and that's why I like it so much
Don't worry, I can hear what you're talking about, tukkek. Especially in the recorded version. It does have some metal elements to it, though it's definitely more of a punk song.
@br00t4lpowermetalomg Yeah, it's BR for sure, above it all... Thanks for the support, I wonder why an inocuous comment like this brings so much hate! I guess "it's the way of the modern world", if you'd quote BR's Greg.

rouge also stands for a rowdy, if you are bad etc.
in connection with sinister i think it's rather "my" rouge that yours.
but i'm not sure, so please correct me if i'm wrong!

Rouge is a dark red, commonly associated with the robes of the Cardinals of the Catholic Church.
Plus, listen to the lyrics;
"child molesters and jesuits, holding secret conference, underneath the pontiff's nose, and only god will ever know."

His lyrics are smart; but having him play punk music is like having a 200-pound tuna in a goldfish bowl -- too small!
Would love to see this guy do something else after so many years
