@jfrsnjhnsn I am not very, very rich. My father has worked from the bottom up, started with little to his name, and now owns his own small business. He has given me a better chance at a better life than he had. Both my parents worked hard so that I could have a better life. And they did so without bailouts, stimulus packages, and welfare. This is all coming from separate usage of the term 'social justice'. Beck is using it in terms of the government making things fair and equal. But Christianity uses it as meaning individuals, and churches should help the poor which is absolutely true. In fact Glenn Beck and all other LDS people believe this as well.

What I mean by "social justice" is that the government should be the ones who help the poor by distributing the wealth, thus the govt forces people to give rather than letting the people choose to. This is all coming from separate usage of the term 'social justice'. Beck is using it in terms of the government making things fair and equal. But Christianity uses it as meaning individuals, and churches should help the poor which is absolutely true. In fact Glenn Beck and all other LDS people believe this as well.

I'm an atheist, but this disgusts me. I have worked with many Christians in community service that believe strongly in socialist values. If you read the New Testament, it is loaded with references to a collectivist utopia of some sorts. While I would prefer a utopia with no religion, a utopia with religions and non belief coexisting would be fine if the faithful did not use faith as an argument.

I fail to see any similarity between Christian belief & theology & right-wing political ideology. And yes I'm angry at folks who cynically use religion to further a political agenda & visa-versa!

Brothers - Glenn is not against social justice in the sense of Christian charity. He is against Government assuming the role of the church. Government should protect its people, promote justice and restrain evil. The Church should care for the poor and needy. Glenn does not dispute this. He does not advocate government as the answer. I go even further. As to able bodied men if a man doesnt work, neither should he eat.

Social Justice and Economic Justice are code words for modern liberalism/State economic manipulation/welfareism. That is common knowledge.

...Doesn't that depend on the conclusion that is reached by he who has asked the question. Poverty is 1.relative, 2. more importantly, largely caused by decreased competition caused by State enforced and maintained barriers to market entry. basic economics.

There's always going to be poor and rich people in a free society. That's a fact. Beck just said what most Christians believe- The churches should be responsible for charity and social programs through tithes and offerings. This gives Christians the choice of giving where their money will best be used to help the most people. This is a fundamental belief of most Christians. We're all responsible for the well being of our fellow man, not the bloated and inefficient federal government!

It may scare churches to know there are 3 million starving children under the age of 5 in America today. We are second only to Mexico in developed countries for child poverty.
When you feed the starving we have now, all of them....
then we should stop welfare...
but only of you agree to feed all of those who will be starving then, too.
Or maybe they should die in the streets.

Children that are starving in America need only walk into a church and tell someone they are hungry. Welfare should, in the very least, be reformed to mandate drug testing or limit spending on anything other than food and housing. You are living in a different world than I am Hope. Your beliefs include the flawed assumption that social program recipients always spend their money appropriately, when many have addictions to feed before their children. I wish it wasn't, but this is the truth.

I think Jesus will judge us each in a different light according to His Will. Until I am judged, I will advocate not depending on the government to feed starving Americans. Do you not realize our federal government is giving BILLIONS to undeserving, risk-taking corporations while churches are handing out meals? Do you not see the exorbitant amounts spent on frivolous pet projects? You're ignoring the wastefulness of American government. They CAN feed everyone. They choose not to.
