  • You are sooooo right. This band puts on the greatest performance ever witnessed. To see them more that one is to possibly be taken past your limits with every experience. The DMB is , in my opinion, the greatest musical energy sources ever. PERIOD!

  • that broken string worked perfect.. really sounded good for the song to slow down there just to pick back up

  • i love dave <3 but nothng comapres to seeing him live

  • yeah this is unreal fantastic

  • is this an IEM? sounds way too clear to be taper audio.

  • ah...the lillywhite version. nice to hear once in a while

  • @benham74 are you high?

  • makes time stop. hello. i cant' stop listening. nothing else matters for the next 10 mins. I'm taken from my space and placed into another. enjoyment self enjoyment. for 10 mins.

  • broken string. guitar change. still the best version ive heard. unreal? yes

  • epic.. and i like the lyric changes, new verses.. dave just doesn't have that adventurous spirit anymore, though... sigh*

  • There's a mural on the wall at my high school of a bunch of rainbow handprints and they all fade into this one grey peace sign and it says, "And all the colors mix together... to grey."

    It's highly spiffy.

  • Epic, epic performance. I have heard most of the 2000 Grey Streets and this is one of my favorite versions. I still can't believe I get to see it performed though. Didn't think many people recorded vids back then!!

  • i Love DMB how thy are now and how the alway were and will be, but here is one thing that i miss. I love Rashawn and Timmy but with them and even jeff's pumped up sax i feel they overpower alot of songs and lose alot of daves emotional lyrics and the bands all around signiture sound. Dont get me wrong I still love DMB and Big-Whiskey but a big portion of the bands mello-greatness was lost a couple years ago, RIP The Gru-Grux King

  • Great version ! Please check out my cover of this song on my page ! let me know what ya think ! thanks so much guys !!!

  • My Husband died of Cancer Jan. 2008, I know what you mean. It perfectly exemplifies the feelings associated with this loss.

  • @MsKatMoore I didn't even know this song but then I have survived cancer since 2008-2009 and I discovered this song and it touches me so very deeply.

  • I love this version of Grey Street. Ever since my wife died of cancer this past October, I feel like I live on Grey Street

  • this show was my first Dave show every. I was a senior in high school. The reason the lyrics are completely different here and this whole tour is because he didn't realease a studio version yet. So you know Dave, if he can improvise, he will. I will dearly miss Giants Stadium

  • Is there a way you could post the lyrics?

  • Added to the right (more info) from dmbalmanac....

  • i like how he likes to change thinks up a bit and use a little bit of different lyrics. i suggest to people to get the live trax where dmb plays at the riverbend center in cincinnati because it has alot of songs dmb dosent play anymore.

  • FUCK YES!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i like the 12 string version better...smoother notes

  • Carter = God

  • JAYBTV,

Love this version of grey street. Where can I get a copy of this.

    Thanks

  • The Lillywhite mp3s are all over the net. Some guy leaked a bunch of unpublished songs in late 02 and then the band reworked a lor of stuff which became Busted Stuff.

  • these versions of grey street are so much better than the one he has been playing since 04. the version off the lillywhite sessions especially has good lyrics. check it out

  • This was my very first concert I been to at Giants Stadium, I remember asking my girl at the time what song that was...love this version and the song since

  • i just love how he has spare taylor acoustics in the back that it's like no big deal, here's another $2,000 guitar to start jammin with. taylors rock and i wish i was that lucky haha

  • he has like 500 guitars backstage :)

  • Ha yeah this is back when he first started playing taylors, so he's playing some of the (relatively) cheaper models (700) now he plays the 900s which go for like $4 grand+ easily.

This video is such a blast from the past - Stefan using wedges, butch, carter's old kit.... I love this band xfd

  • This song is #10 on my weekly video countdown.

  • Why does he switch guitars around 2:50?

  • he switches because he breaks a string. it breaks somewhere at the 2:35 mark, and he turns to notify a roadie to bring out a new guitar. pause at 2:37 and you can see the string hanging near the A in YAMAHA on the bass drum

  • pause at like 6:03 and you can count how many strings haha, its 6

  • ya thats a 6 string son sorry to burst your bubble

  • actually his B string is missing since its not wrapped in bronze u cant even see it from that angle. The song could survive without that string, the only "surviving" he'd have is to get his hand out of the way when it snapped. ans u can hear him tuning his new guitar after the song, own'd

  • It is 100% without a doubt a 6 string.6 total knobs equals 6 strings.

  • it's even being played on a 6 string here, busted stuff, lillywhite, live are all done with a 12 string. rare to be on a 6, not to mention a very early recording too. excellent post.

    thanks!

  • its definitely a 6 string...

  • I'm glad it has 6 knobs, therefor making it a 12 string.

  • not quite mate, if you stuck 2 strings per knob then there is very little chance that they would retain the same tension therefore the paired effect of the 12 string is lost.

  • You're completely correct.

Whoever decided to give you a thumbs-down is a retarded individual.

  • not only that but they would always be touching and it would deaden the strings. not admirable.

  • the first version of grey street was with a six string, so yeah this is a rare recording:D

  • this was played before they finished writing it...good stuff. doesnt have the live feeling as always, 12 string's missing baby!

  • how did he cut so much lyrics out of the studio version

  • My favorite version of one of my favorite song. A magical performance and so lucky to have this amazing video. Thank you "But then the wrong and the rage is over Oh when the light comes laughing loud Oh now hatred turns into loving And now the night time's soul is found Oh my God, when flowers bloom in the desert Only hope can come from that Oh and worn down in your worry Only love can get it right All the colors mix together To grey..."
  • God, beautiful lyrics, hits, heart, mind, and soul.

  • the only thing i hate about dave is the fact that i know ill never be better than him.. the man is a genius and a inspiration...

  • RIP LEROI

  • this song is great, but this version is bomb.. love the difference in the lyrics

  • This is the version from the LillyWhite Sessions

  • no its not

  • Too bad you can' hear the crowd freaking out in the BG

  • I don't even play drums... but holy crap. Carter is freakin' ridiculous. Like, I don't even know who he can be compared to, ya know?

  • D-M-B !!!!!!!!!!!

    THE BEST

  • no 12-string?

  • Thank you so much for posting!!!!!!!!!

JayBTV is great. Thank you for sharing!!!

  • oh and i also noticed something happened to carter's snare during the outro... either broke the head, mic moved, or his snares somehow turned off.. you'll notice how different it sounds at the very end.

  • at first i thought carter dropped a stick at about 5:43, but it looks like he threw it on purpose for a fresh one... interesting. of course he's so damn good, he could play with one hand for an entire song and no one would notice.

  • BRING BACK 4 VERSES !!!

  • Yes!!! I love the extended (original) version. Thank you for posting. You are the man JayBTV!!!!!!

  • Awesome video! This song was SO much better when he freestyled some of the lyrics.

  • Yeah why can't he play it like that live? Now it's not only not extended, but it's shortened. Normally they only play two verses. The old song was better and the freestyled lyrics are awesome. Not to say that the song isn't still great now, but it used to be better.

  • the longer a song is, the less numbers you can hit at a gig. my guess: they don't normally play the extended version, but rather the 2 verse version to fit in other songs in the line up for the crowd.

  • yeah but they have far longer songs than this. I'm sure they could accommodate the 3rd verse. Grey Street isn't the same without all 3. It's better extended, but I guess that's a thing in the past.

  • Eh, don't sweat the thumbs down. i have seen DMB only 3 times, they stream out a different song every concert- it keeps the old stuff fresh, and probably cuts down some of the monotony of always playing the same stuff, and keeps the rep as the greatest jam band of the generation.

  • my first thumbs down... odd, since i was merely making an observation. no worries mate

  • what happened did he snap a string or something?

  • love carter's outro on this version...

  • im glad he does it on a 12 string now...sounds much better

  • i was there, i still have the t shirt, good concert

  • awesome

  • hmm interestin
