WARNING TO ALL KIDS: Don't EVER do to any of your friends or family what the blonde guy does to his friend in 1:43. While I - as a kid - watched this skit when it originally aired, I imitated it by doing that to my dad (while also doing car starter sounds) and it made his nose bleed. Same thing happened to my baby bro when I did it to him too. Not a good scene! :(
So basically, cutting a long story short: DON'T IMITATE WHAT YOU SEE ON TV - OR ON YOUTUBE!
I've been looking for some of these videos for years!!! I'm the kid in the red sweater at the end. I did about four different segments and have been trying to locate the rest. Anyone that can help, would have my appreciation. By the way, it was maaaad fun...
I just found out today that Jim Henson has something to do with this short film. The Blonde Headed Kid is Brian Henson, son of the Late Jim Henson. Brian & the Henson children are no running the Jim Henson Company. Brian is now a Puppeteer, Producer & a Director. He is following his fathers footsteps. :-) He was only like 3 years old in this clip.
Part of the appeal of film clips like this on Sesame Street was that it could connect with those of us poor street kids. We could identify with the kids on the screen. They were acting like real kids (as opposed to kids who made witty retorts and wisecracking comments that were scripted for them), they dressed like real kids (as opposed to wearing designer clothes), they used their imagination and their hands when they played (instead of with store bought toys which we couldnt afford).
Ha ha...just had a flashback to the orange and red shag carpet in my parents' basement growing up...and my friend's TV that had to warm up before it would show the picture.
LOVED this as a kid. My husband is from England and didn't grow up with Sesame Street and finds today's version too Elmo-ized and too overly politically correct (as in how the cookie monster is now telling you that cookies are a sometimes food) I agree. My kids love the old time sesame street clips.
I really liked that kid eating like that although some people don't like that and would take your food away for eating like that or maybe spank you with a belt. I really like this clip and also like how the boy starts the other up again.
Statz you rule !!!!!!!!!! I have been looking for this one FOREVER !!! This was one of my faves back in the day.... havent seen it in... I dunno, 30yrs ?? 40 is coming up for me in September... it's amazing how much we actually retain as kids, eh ?
I remember this one! I always wanted the chocolate ice cream at the end...we always had the bucket'o vanilla and never any other kind. Oh, the longing... :)
treadley, I'm with you on the ice cream! We used to pretend we were those kids when we got ice cream at home. Ah the memories. Thanks to mstatz for posting this gem!
Too bad Sesame St doesn't do stuff like this anymore :-(
OUCH!!!! Every time I pinch my nose mimicking a car starter, it ends up bleeding... don't know why, it just does. My advice: DON'T DO IT - whether to yourself, or (worse!) someone else - EVER.
Jeopardy, you should do it again. Where is it written we have to stop this stuff when we grow up? Do it again; I ride on the swings for instance every chance I get.
There's one construction film I vaguely remember. The first half was various construction equipment at work, and the film ends with a wrecking ball knocking down a brick wall. Anyone remember/have that film?
My parents thought it was cute when I would mimic construction equipment. Then I mimicked construction workers... got my mouth washed out with soap, and no TV for a week.
I remember watching this clip and then eating chocolate ice cream the way this kid did. Then my dad would come in and tell me to stop screwing around with the ice cream.
OMG! I so agree with you! I had these odd desires to dig into a bowl of chocolate ice cream when I would see bulldozers and backhoes in construction sites. I hadn't seen this clip in...God...20+ years, and from the first few seconds I was envisioning chocolate pudding or ice cream. Unbelievable.
There were still airing this in the 80's? Wow, talk about legs. I remember this from the early/mid 70's. And I STILL associate chocolate ice cream with dirt and ditchdiggers. Years ago I remember trying to describe this bit to my wife and she thought I was nuts. Never thought I'd see it again.
First time I have seen this in 36 years! Blast from the past! Thanks for the upload!! :D

I loved Sesame Street. Always wondered why my boy never watched it. Probably because they stopped showing segments and skits like this one.

Why doesn't quality stuff like this exist anymore!!! Our kids need this to positively stimulate their minds!

OMG!!! So happy to have found this. To this day I work with heavy equipment. What great childhood memories were brought back!

You shouldn't eat ice cream that fast. It will give you a headache. One of those children was Jim Henson's son.

Notice that the boy had an electric starter, and a hand-crank backup start as well...no "pony motor", though...
