@tommyboomboom What a bummer! :/ It seems every single SST in the last 20 years, quite literally has been cancelled. With all the money they spent on the R+D they may as well release this stuff! Really sad.
@jlebesis I think it's because they are evaluated by airlines using criteria that they normally use for subsonic planes. ie passanger miles per ton of fuel, flight hours vs maintenance hours etc. I think they could (smaller business jet sized planes anyway) be considered with a different business model. For example, a plane made from 80% or 90% titanium would last a lot longer and fatigue much less than a subsonic aluminium and carbonfibre Airbus or Boeing...
@jlebesis You could also use them as shuttles, rather than luxo-jets. Just cram in as many premium economy seats as you can and charge the same as a regular private jet seat... since you only have to sit in it for 1/4 of the time, nobody will really notice the lack of luxury. If I were a big-cheese businessman or diplomat, I'd rather pay $10000 to get from London to Sydney in 5 hours than to sit in a larger seat for 24 hours.
@PeskyPanda well, it is possible, why rip off the shit outta businesses, afterall, the US is in the shitter now after they shut nasa down via the shuttle program closure.
@PeskyPanda and enough of so called "american sovreingty" your tech is now international, plus the SR-71 is a robust design which deserves another shot in the commericial market, and u said u want to dismantle me chink?
It's cool but will not be built in my lifetime. There's not a military air force in the world with an SST in its fleet, of any size. If none of them can be convinced to build one, there's no way a private company will. But again, it's way cool.
Who would have thought, 50 yrs later, the Valkyrie gets recycled... or at the least spawns a slightly less impressive son. An amazing looking plane.. yes.. but more for the company having the insight to draw inspiration from where they clearly have, when no one else thought of it... (or maybe they did and went 'too hard' for meeting Civi aviation standards).
@Armigo91. Is that any different than a blade failing on a conventional copter. The physics may be different but the outcome would be the same, except that the Proray has ballistic parachute capability. The Osprey is unstable but corrected also, like the Proray. Choppers are stable (with only one central lift) and the Hiller flying platform is the best thing. It has enclosed rotors, it WORKS and its CHEAP!
Looking like this business jet will never be built. Shame, as to me it's the best looking design of all the SSBJ's currently on the drawing board(reminds me of Firefox).
Plus, if realized it would have been able to fly supersonic across land.
WHY NOT HAVE A PRORAY INSTEAD. HEY WHAT WOULD YOU RATHER? (A STANDARD 400 MPH BIZ-JET (THAT LOOKS BETTER THAN THE SUPER ONE) AND CARRIES 8 PEOPLE @500 LH (EDUCATED GUESS) OR A PRORAY THAT CARRIES 4 AND @70 LH (ON 200KNOT CRUISE) AND @ LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE AND LAND ON YOUR ROOF! SEE UTUBE '2MUCH ON PRORAY'.
Did you seriously designed a PRORAY copter. Man, your a moron. It will still be to expensive both in cost maintainance and fuel. It will only be available to the rich, which might be nice for more of us but it wont help traffic problems.
Btw, your design is bad. You have a 2-4times greater surface area due to the quad props. You basically have more chance on hitting a bird and when one of those props fails on one side torque will turn your concet upside down.
"Forget that the whole world's economy is crashing into the ground, forget CO2 emissions... buy a ****Ing high tech luxury jet that looks like it flew out of a Star Trek film."
You're not seriously comparing a 45 dollar internet connection to a multi-billion dollar hyperjet are you?
Anyway, that delves into Dunbar's Number and the limits of our social spheres, you could say the same for every luxury we have in the developed world. By that logic it's hypocritical for any person to enjoy a meal while others are starving somewhere in the world.
Did I just here him say "for the business traveler"? Yea, tell me that anyone but the richest of the rich will be able to afford to travel in this thing.....
Im sorry to say but this thing looks like a Dildo with Razor Blades glued to it. I WANT ONE! I can fly places and keep my girlfriend in check. If she cheats Ill shuve it so far up her downstairs she'll bleed everywhere and people would think its a sign of the end of the world. Ahh man how money can keep you laid payed and living untill the old old age. JEWs never seem to die, They live untill there 90.
With advances on the Internet and video conferencing, low-cost long distance phone service, faxes, email, etc, why would a businessman spend millions on a jet? Telecomminations technology has pretty much eliminated the need for an executive to "be there" in person for a meeting or conference. I think the use of business jets will drop sharply once the next generation of business leaders realizes this.
its not bad, butIt would never have been half as good as concorde. Partly because its only for business, which means most NORMAL people wanting to use it for everyday transport couldn't. And concorde was the looker of the two.
I found out only recently when I tried going to their website and didn't work, then I researched further. I was pissed off as well, as I was planning on getting one. Somehow. Eventually.
@cobrala I was quite upset when I found out. Although it can't ever come close to the real thing, you can download a QSST add-on for X-Plane. Love flying that thing.
@draoi99 LOL... you see he's a stupid douchebag model, and like most stupid douchebag model he thinks that rich people talk on the phone a lot, so other douchebag models and regular douchebags will also think he's important. Unfortunately the producer of the video was unaware that talking on the phone all the time just makes you look like a total douchebag... and not really all that important.
@draoi99 I know I hate that too! I know women who are texting while dating. Can you beleive that? So many people just cant put the damn things down. Mabey some company should couple cell phones with a small eyepiece monitor for maximum data infusion. Call it "Borg Unit-1"!
The value of having a supersonic jet rather than a standard private jet would depend on the value of your time. If you were say Bill Gates (or Larry and Sergi) - or even Obama then getting to a few extra meetings a year and making the right decisions because you are a bit less travel wary might pay for one of these babies in a few days.
Why do i enjoy flying? It must be a sense of freedom when i am piloting. Personally, i have always loved aeroplanes so the engineering aspect is important to me. As a passenger, i am merely enjoying the ride (as long as i have leg room and not sat too close to anyone puking). Why do i love supersonic flying? I have never flown supersonic. But the idea of it is a thrill. I expect its the kick in the pants. I have flown backseat in a fast jet and the take off roll was just immense!
so, you would prefer want a very speedy, powerful and supersonic jet instead of a 747 or A380. you would like to air race with other with a jet. Am I right?
What about owning a concorde? It is a supsonic jet (speedy & powerful) but, at the same time, it is very comfortable, too.
In all honesty, i find most modern aircraft to be faceless and lacking character. An airbus, to all appearances, could be a boeing to the uninitiated eye. Concorde was a marvellous achievement but impractical for today's markets. If you're asking what i would like if i had to choose something modern(ish), i think an IL-76 would be awesome (I'd just live in it and fly from place to place). As for air racing... i'm not a risk-taker, nor a gambler. Acceleration is fun, but i'd end up dead, i'm sure
Maybe the most efficient form is not a beautiful one. Take a look at the Embraer 170, I believe it's one of the most beautiful planes in the world. The Airbus A400M is also kind of cute...
too bad a concorde would cost about $700 million to bring back to airworthyness. It's once of my more ambitious goals for life(to own a concorde and bring one back for air shows and to serve as my private jet) but that is fucking pipe dream if there ever was one.
- I enjoy flying mostly because of the sites and the take off-landing experience. But if we fly several times, it really gets boring! over 2 hours of sitting in a tube over 15 thousand feet! My worst was sitting for 7 hours when i was going from England to Canada! It's terrible!
-Even tho you won't feel it, you get a sence of speed and time is shortened which for me personally, is the best!
-Cause it's damn annoying that only business tycoons get the best ride :D
In terms of having Concorde instead of SAI Quiet Supersonic Transport - the idea is that while these are much slower, lower capacity and shorter range than Concorde they are much quieter supersonic (about 1%) due to that way the sonic boom is distributed so they would be able to fly supersonic over land which Concorde would not be allowed to.
