@jlebesis I think it's because they are evaluated by airlines using criteria that they normally use for subsonic planes. ie passanger miles per ton of fuel, flight hours vs maintenance hours etc. I think they could (smaller business jet sized planes anyway) be considered with a different business model. For example, a plane made from 80% or 90% titanium would last a lot longer and fatigue much less than a subsonic aluminium and carbonfibre Airbus or Boeing...

@jlebesis You could also use them as shuttles, rather than luxo-jets. Just cram in as many premium economy seats as you can and charge the same as a regular private jet seat... since you only have to sit in it for 1/4 of the time, nobody will really notice the lack of luxury. If I were a big-cheese businessman or diplomat, I'd rather pay $10000 to get from London to Sydney in 5 hours than to sit in a larger seat for 24 hours.

It's cool but will not be built in my lifetime. There's not a military air force in the world with an SST in its fleet, of any size. If none of them can be convinced to build one, there's no way a private company will. But again, it's way cool.

@Armigo91. Is that any different than a blade failing on a conventional copter. The physics may be different but the outcome would be the same, except that the Proray has ballistic parachute capability. The Osprey is unstable but corrected also, like the Proray. Choppers are stable (with only one central lift) and the Hiller flying platform is the best thing. It has enclosed rotors, it WORKS and its CHEAP!

Btw, your design is bad. You have a 2-4times greater surface area due to the quad props. You basically have more chance on hitting a bird and when one of those props fails on one side torque will turn your concet upside down.

Telecomminations technology has pretty much eliminated the need for an executive to "be there" in person for a meeting or conference. I think the use of business jets will drop sharply once the next generation of business leaders realizes this.

The value of having a supersonic jet rather than a standard private jet would depend on the value of your time. If you were say Bill Gates (or Larry and Sergi) - or even Obama then getting to a few extra meetings a year and making the right decisions because you are a bit less travel wary might pay for one of these babies in a few days.

Why do i enjoy flying? It must be a sense of freedom when i am piloting. Personally, i have always loved aeroplanes so the engineering aspect is important to me. As a passenger, i am merely enjoying the ride (as long as i have leg room and not sat too close to anyone puking). Why do i love supersonic flying? I have never flown supersonic. But the idea of it is a thrill. I expect its the kick in the pants. I have flown backseat in a fast jet and the take off roll was just immense!

In all honesty, i find most modern aircraft to be faceless and lacking character. An airbus, to all appearances, could be a boeing to the uninitiated eye. Concorde was a marvellous achievement but impractical for today's markets. If you're asking what i would like if i had to choose something modern(ish), i think an IL-76 would be awesome (I'd just live in it and fly from place to place). As for air racing... i'm not a risk-taker, nor a gambler. Acceleration is fun, but i'd end up dead, i'm sure

Answers:

- I enjoy flying mostly because of the sites and the take off-landing experience. But if we fly several times, it really gets boring! over 2 hours of sitting in a tube over 15 thousand feet! My worst was sitting for 7 hours when i was going from England to Canada! It's terrible!

-Even tho you won't feel it, you get a sence of speed and time is shortened which for me personally, is the best!

-Cause it's damn annoying that only business tycoons get the best ride :D

In terms of having Concorde instead of SAI Quiet Supersonic Transport - the idea is that while these are much slower, lower capacity and shorter range than Concorde they are much quieter supersonic (about 1%)  due to that way the sonic boom is distributed so they would be able to fly supersonic over land which Concorde would not be allowed to.

Depends on your definition of quiet. American lobbyist (sour grapes) tried and failed to sink Concord over its noise, at the time it was found to be quieter than a 747 on take off. I think you might find ALL aircraft including the military (except for special areas) are limited to going supersonic over sea only.
