  • I went to a charter school for 7 years, wouldn't want anything different. I wouldn't be who I am today.

  • Im a senior at a charter school in California and its true, at least here, if your grades are consistently straight Fs, you will be kicked out to improve the schools grade averages. We do have a lot of schools resources (ie new textbooks new gym new study hall) but honestly, a students education depends on their motivation and their teachers. I am SHOCKED at how some of the teachers I've had kept their jobs. It's criminal. But I've also met a few rare & amazing teachers that I will never forget.

  • @kaitlinan This is true. Charter schools are great for building willfull students as public schools are becoming last resort for unmotivated juvenilles. I have a cousin who recently kicked out of a charter school because of bad grades and was transfered to a public school which makes him feel like a prisoner. He also says there are gangs, fights every week, illegals who barely and refuse to speak english, etc. Now he is desperately trying to get his grades back in order so he can return.

  • Listen to Host "Coach" Dennis Snyder on Charter School Radio on wsradio.com and help support the Charter School Radio on Facebook!

  • fuk u u union spoil brat fat teacher charter are better pub sch grad will never measure up to chart and priv sch gra that a fact

  • @samantha34ize that charter school education really shows in your grammar.

  • they have set up our public schools for failure, so that the charter schools can take over. what are charter schools? --to brainwash our children towards socialism

    wake up america

  • @LiamCareyBrown and its funny that the Conservatives are in favor of Charter schools and the Democrats are the ones defending Teachers Unions and public schools

i guess everyone doesn't know what side they are in yet

  • Do yourself a favor and do a google search on Gulen Charter schools. Find the information adn share it with all teachers and parents. Notify your school board if there is a gulen school in your area.

  • I think that these people only care about statistics. Statistics, statistics, statistics! I hate how these people talk about the stupid needs of kids when they don't know what the KIDS want. I actually go to a charter school, and this video is lies, lies, LIES! Look up Bergen Arts and Science Charter School to see what my school is about.

  • a lot of hedge fund managers are drooling over this....not every public school system is a disaster, only in poor neighborhoods.

  • Google search...Gulen Charter Schools and take action !!

  • Only charter schools get to hire non union teachers...hmm, axe the unions? What kind of starting point is this?

  • The standard high school IEP program is the most destructive thing you could ever give to a disabled or struggling student, especially if said high school is rubbish at assisting students with psychological disabilities. This point was demonstrated to me when I was pulled out of the hell that was a standard high school IEP program, to be placed in a charter school. I know standard school would have destroyed me had there not been a charter school in existence. As it happens, I graduated from CS.

  • how do charter schools work?

  • @KT12346

I attend a Charter School. It's totally free. It's like a public school, except you get a BETTER education. You'll meet unique friends who take interest in what you do. I recommend that you consider going to a Charter School.

  • Some charter schools have a hidden agenda. Google search gulen charter school. Hidden Agenda Tucson and Beehive Academy Gulen.

  • Unions were a good idea 100 years ago when factories were atrocious workplaces. Unfortunately, they have waaaay overstepped the bounds of reason. Modern unions tend to be mercenary and selfish powerhouses with socialist agendas that destroy the very institutions that feed them. Public schools, the steel industry, the auto industry, the teamsters, etc etc etc. Where there are big unions, quality suffers. Where there is true free market accountability, quality flourishes.

  • @rmcdaniel423 What you have said about the free market system vs unions is absolutely incorrect. Note BP - recent free market extravaganza in the gulf.. The unions gave us a strong middle class in America, working hard and producing greatness for our country...without them there will be only a few very rich, and millions of poor.

  • @Elin48 I used to teach in a public school, and was part of the union at that time. Anyone who chose not to be in the union was HIGHLY ostracized. Sure, there is some merit to an organized voice from the workforce. But I also saw first hand the pettiness and greed. Fighting tooth & nail over mere minutes of scheduled contact time with the kids. Demanding insurance and retirement benefits that bankrupt entire school districts. Crying like babies if their massive vacations get threatened.

  • @Elin48 BTW, The recent oil spill was not a failure of the free market, as you imply. All industrial workplaces are under the direct control of EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies, but even that is irrelevant. The spill had nothing to do with the structure of an economy. That's a "straw man" argument. It was either a mechanical accident or a poor choice made by some individual. And notice I wrote about "accountability". That is sadly lacking in gov't controlled endeavors.

  • @rmcdaniel423 how about going to this youtube video and watch why as I agree, merit pay will not work. Teacher "Merit Pay" SUCKS!

  • @Elin48 1st: I never mentioned "merit pay" in any of my comments. That's a "red herring".

2nd: She sets up a poor example. AP Calculus teachers should not be compared to Remedial Math teachers. If that truly is the case, then I agree, that particular system does suck. However, rewarding "merit" (and discouraging bad teachers) is still a worthy idea if implemented fairly. I recall several colleagues who were tenured, high on the seniority pay scale, and PURE SHIT as teachers.

  • @rmcdaniel423 The BP oil spill is the result of a law passed by congress back in 2005. The law gave oil companies tax breaks for drilling oil farther away from the shore. Drilling farther away from the shore is less safe, and hence the oil spill occured.

  • @CubsFan2006 Interesting bit of history. I'm guessing the tax breaks were motivated by people with political clout who objected aesthetically to seeing rigs in safer shallower waters. "Not in MY backyard", so to speak.

You made a bit of a logical leap though. Deeper = less safe, therefore the spill occurred. Correlation does not = causation, (but risk is risk, I agree). What makes it "less safe"? I'm curious.

  • My little sister transferred to a charter school and she did so much better. I think it's always good to have multiple options for kids.

  • our public school system sucks

  • -leading. Also Charter schools are funded at a much lower rate than public schools. If we really wanted to make a decent comparison between charter school students and public school students than we should have equal funding for each model. Even then we would have to make sure that we are comparing the same types of kids. The only way to do that is with a lottery where kids names are drawn at random. This was done in New York and Charters outperformed public schools handily.

  • The statistics comparing public schools and charter schools are meaningless. The students who attend charter schools do so because their parents are unsatisfied with the education their children were currently receiving. So in essence you are comparing underperformers to the general population. The important thing is how are Charter school students doing compared to what they would have done in the public schools. See Caroline Hoxbys video for a more complete explanation for why that data is mis

  • To David Stevens (guy from the video): your idea to assess performance by using the mean average is misleading in scientific sense.

  • dont listen to them!! charter schools are racist they want to keep blacks and Latinos in chater schools. all races should go to the same schools and thats public schools

  • @ramo510

Based on that comment, your an idiot. Watch the move The Cartel and you'll see minority parents crying and screaming when their kids were not picked out of the hat to get to go to charter schools because the public schools are so bad. Grow up!

  • These schools are still government run. Just abolish them. Abolish Public School. com

  • @lawrencefollower There's a difference though, taxpayer money is not given to the schools directly. It is given to the families so they can decide where to invest in their child's education. To put it simply, charter schools are funded by the government but it's the parents who are calling the shots.

  • @el3m3ntsk8s

Charter schools are HEAVILY funded by Private corporations as well. Did you forget about them. They are the one's that run the country that you live in. How is that working out?

  • that's a BIG charter school! My charter school has only 5 students including myself. It's so small with anti social people and stuff, that I call it homeschooling. It's cool cuz it's right next to the food shops, but sucks cuz there's no really social people, no school dances, no field trips, no group projecs, and no pretty girls you can see everyday or ask out. And no sound of the sweet bell.

  • Charter schools are a God send for inner city districts!

  • look at my hot ass in this video
