Here is some advice to everyone using P2P networks to get music files. Do not use Limewire, Kazaa or Bearshare. All of these p2p networks are riddled with nasty viruses,malware,spyware, and all that bad stuff. I nearly lost a computer to using those two networks, and this was three and a half years ago. Just a word of caution guys. I use AVG,Spybot, and Hijack this. All of those programs work great for viruses,malware,spyware, and etc.

I recently had spyware and found a autorun file so i deleted it. What I didn't know was that the autorun file was there before i reinstalled windows. so i found it after i reinstalled. Naturally, it ran itself on a clean windows system. It does registry changes that spybot stops. My one question is if it infects .jpeg and .jpg files. When I put in my U3 16 g flash (only has photos) my mouse kept loading, then the regular mouse showed up. Is this because it is copying the virus? PLEASE HELP!!!

Spybot Search And Destroy is THE BOMB!! You must download on any pc!! This anispyware stops any regerestry changes! even changing your homepage!!! It stopped my spyware from crashing my pc! Even though it could not detect the virus itself. It told me what file was causing the change and I went onto safemode and deleted the problem. Trust me, spybot is a must.

Dude, there's so much more common sense to be said here.

1. Most p2p applications can launch a scan upon download.

2. You can usually tell (Especially with mp3's) based on the size of the file.

3. Limewire (and others) have bitzi lookup, sometimes people will log there if its a virus.

There's much more than the above, look around.

It is good but you can't be completely safe with it, just like other anti viruses. I Reccomend it for scanning as it usualy does the trick and finds most mallicious files however when it comes to removing it's just O.K.

However it almost always tells you where they are so you can remove them yourself.

i would strongly recommend avg anti virus the new one is great for viruses and also comes with anti spyware and anti rootkit but i sill use spybot search and destroy.

i don't know that much about sygate but again i would recommend zone alarm to people.

VirusTotal can be used as well as Jotti. Zonealarm and Comodo are good, free firewalls. Malwarebytes is an awsome scanner.

You mention a lot of things here, but there are other measures you can take too.

1) Hardware firewall (on your router), in addition to a software firewall

2) DON'T RUN AS ADMIN. Create a login with limited rights and use that for day-today tasks, only using the admin account for installing software, making system-wide changes, etc.

3) Disable simple file sharing and block access from limited users to important system files and whatnot

You can also encrypt everything on your harddrive. I use a program called "TrueCrypt".

It offers real-time encryption/decryption to files to allow programs to run normally, and offers many encryption/hashing algorithms to encrypt with.

All of my files are encrypted with AES-256 and RIPEMD-160 (these are used in government agencies and all sorts of systems where security is critical).

Another thing you can do is rather than Windows XP, instead run OpenBSD as your operating system. Go on google and search for it. It's literally the most secure Os in the world, with only 2 known security holes in 10 years (that have been fixed now).

Lot's of big companies and government agencies around the world make heavy use of this OS.

It's similar to Linux too, and can use the same libraries (and a lot of programs for Linux can run on OpenBSD).

As a side note, you can also disable some of Windows XP's services for extra security. Just google 'disable windows xp services". (aswell as disable certain services that are security risks, disabling unnescessary services can increase system performance).
