World Championship 2010 Bulgaria,Sofia 1500m Short Track. Men's gold: south korea silvel: south korea bronze: south korea Women: gold: south korea silver: south korea bronze: south korea Is there any nation in the world who can beat this record?????????????? Short Track was invented by S. Korea. Go Korea! Never seen in sport history something like this a nation collecting all medals for mens and womens at the same event!!!!! Wow. It wont never break.
Info from Korean Times and Yonhap News Agency isn't accurate. The official Vancouver Olympics website - "I was expecting more disqualifications from ... the race. It was a crazy first race but it turned out well," added Ohno, who won his first Olympic title in the same event in 2002.
Not the same as "hoping that there was disqualification of the other athletes who were racing ahead of him," as the Korean Times & Korean Yonhap reported.
@MCDone111 Apolo Ohno: Most Reviled Athlete in South Korea Extra! Korea I laughed while reading this article. They quoted some girl online blogging wishing Yuna Kim to do a spin on his face. meant to be a insensitive cruel joke that satisfies idiots... This is not gonna stop. I've never hated the guy personally. I feel that it wasn't his fault that he won the gold back in 2002 to be honest.
@MCDone111 Apolo admitted that ultimately he wished for another disqualifications like 2002. After finishing 2nd on 1500. And I do think he only admitted that on Twitter. @MCDone111 you will soon learn that Koreans will never bash on honesty. I do think Skoreans will ultimately agree that Apolo Ohno pushed SKorean men's short track skate levels to newer heights (Montreal 2002). Apolo just might even appear in TV commercials in SKorea. Maybe not immediately but soon.
@dokkiro you out of your mind? no way. he is not showing up in any of the cfs cuz than that product will not sell, at all. cf directors know that, so dont get your hopes high, at all
"Corporations only pays depends on the increase in sales." Is that a statement that applies to Jeter, Shaq, Armstrong, Phelps, and Jordan? Exactly!!! And Ohno is in that category too! BIG TIME endorser! His ads are still appearing on the east coast.
when he got disqualified he said it was only a barrier to protect him from the guy
yet they didn't notice when that korean guy (Si Bak I thnk) had his hand on the canadian guy, around his skate, the canadian guy tripped him, yet that was so bviviblse yet the canadan refree didnt all him out.
It's true Americans don't really watch Short Track and people in America can barely name anyone who skates besides Apolo Anton Ohno, so the he must be doing something right ;) For some commercials promoting the Vancouver 2010 olympics over the past year, you see the big stars of the olympics like Shaun White, Lindsey Vonn... and of course Apolo Anton Ohno. For a fact Apolo Ohno has made watching short track in The United States way more popular :) Good luck tonight Apolo!
You are right about Ohno not representing local retail stores on TV. List of top-earning 2010 Olympic athletes has Apolo Ohno as No. 5 with 2009 earnings of $1.5 mill. Endorsements include Coca-Cola, Alaska Air, AT&T, Procter & Gamble, Nestle & Omega watches. These companies know his appeal to the public. They know he wouldnt embarrass them by throwing down the US flag or making some arrogant, poor sportsmanship statement like - didn't deserve to stand on the same medal platform as me.
@MACDone111 Apolo really didn't make much money. Corporations only pays depends on the increase in sales. So it's like a contact within time frame of ads on air. + plus there are initial appearance pay of course. If he is really making money that's great. Last I heard he was broke. His commercials didn't work for the most part. Seattle is s experimental lab for TV advertising campaigns. They experiment if the TV ads will work it not just before they spend the money on ads national level.
Most importantly back in 2002 NIKE was the one to use Apolo Ohno. I don't think they ever did. Some of our own retail franchise did use Apolo in the past however they did and they still do seattlelites get to see all the variations of same ads just before they pick the one. I never saw Nike Ad with Apolo. Have you? Well I think Apolo actually might be getting Korean fans now after his honesty. "ultimately I wished for other DQ. You will soon realize Koreans never bash on honesty.
Kim Dong-Sung won 2 medals at the 98 Olympics & many at World Championships (6 in Montreal). His most memorable event was at the 2002 Olympics. Carrying the Korean flag during his victory lap for the 1500m, he learned of his disqualification & threw down the Korean flag. You are right about Korean skaters names not being known. KDS is more commonly known as that sore loser who disgraced his nation by disrespecting his flag. The world RENOWNED name and face of short track is Apolo Ohno.
Iwantram3n, I disagree that Americans find it acceptable to do anything cheap to get more gold. Ill take your word for it that Jae Su Chun brings patented Korean techniques of bribing and playing dirty.
I love this; the number of people dissing Ohno. S'cuse me, folks, but I don't see any of you out there on the ice racing around at high speed in one of the most tactically volatile winter sports on the Olympics board. Ohno is a great skater. And so are the Koreans. I wish people would just leave it at that.
People in America don't watch short track speed skating. Apolo Ohno is better known for dances with stars. If you can name just one short track skater from Korea. You may some credibility.
@dokkiro I didn't know him from Dancing with the Stars I saw it on youtube AFTER the olympics. My family and friends watched him everytime he came on and we are AMERICANS! Some Americans DO watch Speed Skating. Geez get the facts straight
@spots3445 Apolo Ohno in the Dancing with stars was all about Apolo Ohno being a chicken. If Apolo was in Montreal instead he would have been defeated by KDS. Geez? Do you have the facts straight now?
I thought that Apolo Ohno would be great for popularizing this sports. It turns out that he is indeed great. But too many people just don't like him. People in America would rather watch dances with stars than his short track races. I think that Skoreans winning too many medals in Olympic short tracks because of 2002. That's surely not the only winter Olympic sports is it?
Most Apolo Ohnos fans cannot even name one short track skaters from SKorea. KDS was already a huge star on Korea in 2002. He was looked upon by many Korean American kids taking on this sports who were making their ways to Olympic games representing USA. The incident was just bad for the whole sports.
@dokkiro Lee Jung-Su. Brilliant skater. Like Apolo, prefers to come in slightly later, decimating the lines with slick passes. Kim Dong-Sung, winner of twenty-three medals in the World Championships. Disqualified for blocking Ohno as determined by the rules of speed skating.
Ironically, it was Ohno who first got me into short track. After that I learned, much to my surprise and quite a bit of dismay, that he was on Dancing With the Stars.
I watched Jr. Celsky intetview with Comcast. He said him and Apolo have totally different personality but still friends on ice. Smart Very smart. I watched the video of Apolo Ohno visiting Jeju island in SKorea. I think SKoreans now realize that Apolo was not the enemie. That's just his personality growning up without mother. I live In Seattle. Apolo Ohno is Not someone who can even represent local retail stores on TV ads. - continue...
--TV ads. See you got a celebrity you can use for advertising campaign but this guy is only ruining your business leaving a bad reputation. Next thing you know they got people lining up to demand refunds. :) they will say I promise I will never shop here. Ohh BTW Apolo Ohno sucks ass.
Too bad you're not looking beyond the narrow lines there, mate. With that logic I can take any Olympian and accuse him or her of wrecking the "business". It's not a business. It's a sport, and a damn volatile one, too. To you, Apolo Ohno sucks. To me, he's good game on the track and watching him makes for a more exciting race.
@Fluffypear I didn't accuse Apolo of anything except question his sportsmanship. Rest was the business and not a sport. I am not looking at anything beyond the narrow and fine line here.
@Fluffypear Yup its really too bad that American corporations are idiots. They dropped Micheal Phelps for admiting the photo was indeed himself taking a bonghit. Kellog really screwed themselves with this one. American people lost their munchies and this is not gonna change soon. Micheal did nothing to Kellog except being honorable.
@MCDone111 you are right maybe for 2 seconds at the most. Not for him. He won all 6 medals in Montreal the same year while Apolo was dancing with the stars dwarfing Apolo. So take that biatch.
@Fluffypear thats true, both koreans and ohno are good. i admit that. But why do i hate him so much? cuz he CHEATS!!! and he stole one of korea's medals. All those awestruck ohno loving americans would agree if they were korean or some other nationality. their just letting him go, well cuz their american like him...
@nat2cha Outsmarting your opponent. Outsmart. That's the word you're looking for. The decision to dq him was on the judges. The decision to label Apolo Cheater was done by fans of KDS. And it was decision of Apolo Ohno to skip out on Montreal and danced with stars instead. And also it was very wise decision to drop Apolo for Nike.
I really like Ohno but I do think his actions at the 2002 olympics were uncalled for. He didn't really EARN that gold, it was given to him from another players loss. I would want to earn my gold fair and square. I'm glad he was able to do that in 2006 though.
When the shit hit the fan, push your own team in order to get a medal,,,, such a crock of shit .. Are they humans?... What a true corner stone of olympic sportmanship, Idiots like them who eat their own dogs cannot be trusted. You can easily smell the rotten mustardly scent of their perfume.

and pushing ppl is OK, but getting in front of them isn't? cheap sport...
yeah, you can totally tell he's in the process of trying to pass the other guy when he cuts in front of him wish his left leg. Look at the feet people, the only reason apolo shouldn't haven't done the arm thing is because it draws attention away from the feet which is where the foul occurs.
