Having spent 12 yrs and 5000hrs on that plane I think I know..and having been a member of that squadron (VMGR-234)...I'm positive that that is a KC-130 Hercules. The inboard 'pods' are fuel tanks, they hold 9000# each. The outboard pod hold 120' of refueling hose. Get a clue...damn air force.

@jeepinbanditrider the only differences between an ac-130, a kc-130 and a c-130 is whats in the inside and whats its purpose. an ac-130 stands for ATTACK CARGO which means its a vehicle cargo plane and a gunship. a kc-130 is a troop carrier and gunship.. a c-130 is just a cargo plan

@jbarney551542 Wrong again. Any cargo plane can carry troops. KC-130 is a refueler and cargo plane, not a gunship. Those pods towards the end of the wings carry in flight refueling reels. If you've ever seen the inside of an AC-130 you'd know that there isn't a lot of room in there to carry stuff when it's loaded with weapons and ammo on station it's going to be carrying ammo and weapons not cargo. BTW I work on KC-130Ts on a daily basis so I have some knowledge on the subject.

Right you can attack (assault or whatever). So in this case it is fairly obvious the first character is an explanation of the aircraft. Few examples: F16 (F=Fighter), B2 (B=Bomber), C17 (C=cargo?), AH-60 (AH = Attack? Helo), CH-47 (CH = Cargo Helo). what the "K' stands for or the "V" I don't know.
