I think this glitch works because, by abusing that 1-2 frame gap, you've essentially gone into a stage without selecting a character. I guess as a way of preventing loss of precision, they assign a value of 0 to a player when they're prompted to pick a character. Since Master Hand is (I believe) character 0 in the game coding, it sends him out when no character is chosen for a player who will be fighting.

Also, he's player 3 because that's his player spot in Classic mode.

@smallandrew358 Master Hand is the only "extra" character that can be selected with this glitch.

Basically, each character has an ID number (I think Mario is #1, Pikachu is #2, etc.). But Master Hand is listed in the game as #0. The glitch allows you to go to the game select screen without ever selecting a character, so the game just loads the default #0 character, which is Master Hand.

Exchord92 was apparently bored and found out it was possible to advance to the stage select screen without even choosing any characters. Of course this lead to playing as Master Hand, P3 is something I do not know too well. Probably it's the starting position of where Master Hand starts the fight like in Classic Mode's Final Destination.

@IggyDala76 I think not... In the last stage of classic mode (the battle against him) he's working on stamina, and when you hit him he just loses stamina... So if he's working on damage%, you can't just knock him off the stage...
