  • Really nice playing :-)

  • Starting at 3:31 you were going so fast I could not tell how you were using the tipper. Were you using both ends?

  • That was simply AWESOME! lol Love the primal sound of this drum!

  • My fav. switch is at 3:46....simply love the intensity of that change over...feels powerful :)

  • wow, quite a bit more complicated than my simple dum dum dum DUM -like shamanic trance drumming :D

  • I have been furiously watching your videos and practicing on my pizza box until my bodhran arrives from Ireland next week. I am planning to purchase a subscription to your platinum prgram within the next few days because I am so impressed with how much I have learned from your free videos. I find myself responding outloud to your instruction and praise as if you were actually in the room with me! Having only viewed you in a teaching role prior to watching this solo, I am even more impressed!

  • Incredible!!!! I have been an Irish dancer all my life, and the hard shoe rhythms were what stirred my soul. Now, I have found another love for the bodhran, and dug up my brother's unused bodhran from our wall. I am using your video lessons to teach myself (and maybe even dance too!). I have really enjoyed your lessons, and after watching this, I can't believe I'm learning from such a talented player!! You are a really fantastic player...and thanks for all that you are doing!!

  • I was a rock drummer(heavy)in the 70,s and now play Bodhra'n in Galway in Ireland.Well done,Come any time.John

  • This is way too cool, I love your playing. I am 68, and will be buying one of these drums and practicing with you. Laurel

  • Awesome!!!

  • Fantastic, inspirational. Can you tell me the size of this Bodhran. I'm guessing 16inch? Thanks Beautiful.

  • I am delighted to see that I'm not the only one who's come up with the idea to use the Bodhran with latin american music and rythms. It works rather good with Salsa and Mambo music.

  • man you nailed that salsa part!!! really great playing, you must feel so at home when you come to ireland?

  • I was given a bodhran and have tried to play it without very much success. You make beautiful music and make it look easy.

  • thanks for the informative lessons. I just got my bodhran and this is very helpful. I actually play hammered dulcimer and I am hoping this will help with understanding how to play irish music more rhythmically.

  • Brilliant video. I love how you teach. I have owned a bodhran for a few years but didn't know how to play it and you have inspired me.

  • Great video

  • I've had a bodhran for years, but couldn't find anyone to teach me. Your videos are great!!

  • very nice video, just got myself a bodhran and was wondering if you can talk about timbre/tone in a video

  • Michelle, Just bought a bodhran after wasting a year and a half pontificating!!! Anyway, got it yesterday and started straight away doing the 7 rythms in 7 days. Can't wait to improve. Thank you very very much for your time in putting the videos together, they are the best on youtube, without doubt.

Well I'll hopefully post you a video of the playing some time soon, but will have to improve my playing or bravery before that happens.

    Thanks again, keep it up!!!

    Alan

  • this lass teached me to play the borhan very good teacher very good

  • One word: Fantastic!

  • Mickey!! Cousin Lar here with mom...great video! mom has shown it to the family but she doesn't have an account to leave a comment. Keep it up!

  • Awsom and great..What else can I say.

  • I've had my bodhran for a little over a month now and I have been watching your video's on the computer then going home to practice. I went to an SCA event last weekend and the people there who have been playing professionally as well as for fun complimented my technique. I just though that was really cool and I love your video's!

  • Wow! Magnificent work! Thank you so much for posting! I'm hoping to get my first Bodhran tomorrow. :) I hope you are having a grand week!

  • Wow! You are truly great! A master player, and a master

teacher. Thank you so much for your wonderful instruction videos. Your drum is magnificent. Did you say you make them? How would I be able to purchase one?

  • Wow. Great. :) I don't have any clue about instruments.. i just LOVE them :) especially drums :)

  • When doing the jigs, reel or hornpipes, do you have a particular tune you are thinking about or are you just playing out the rhythms of the idioms?

  • Awesome!

  • Unique! Im am absolutley impressed!

  • Thank you Michelle. You are amazing! I bought my bodhran today without even knowing how to pronounce it! I hope it's a good one. But listening to you, it seems a good player could play a magazine and be brilliant! I have subscribed and look forward to learning this grand instrument.

  • Michelle...you made it look so easy! I hate you!! LOL!

  • Excellent!

  • one word: amazing :)

  • Not only brilliant I am in love again.

    Go For Your Dream,

    ~Kimberly

  • Very well done. question- how heavy is your snakewood tipper?

  • Oh my...this is a great solo that makes you wanna dance. The Salsa part with the brush was brilliant.

  • Brilinat - to play the salsa did you just use an ordinary brush stick r is it specific to the bodhran?

  • It's amazing ! Well done !

  • Michelle, awesome performance!! I love the brush tipper bit. 5 stars.

  • Really a magnifficant solo, I wish I could do that with my Bodhran, But I've only just started playing it for about a year. If anyone has tips for me, always welcome, because I love the sound and spirit of the Bodhran

  • Michelle you are so talented ! A true superstar. Go girl ! I was feeling that rhythm .. simply..awesome ! Thankyou x

  • wow!! I like the fake triplets too :)

  • really like it!

    this is pure awesomeness

  • woow!! how did you do that fake triplet? drum on the back of the skin with your left hand i guess?

  • Michelle This is TERRIFIC! We had a great time studying with you again this year. Thanks for your help in advancing this wonderful instrument. Jim Gray Maine USA

  • Thanks Michelle, excellent video, such an inspiration.

  • This was very, very cool Michelle...I thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree with your son...that fake triplet thing was awesome! Thanks for sharing your beautiful gift :) ~Sue

  • ABSOLUTELY outstanding Michelle! Really, really good display of skills and technique. Brilliant.

  • Almost takes me back to the College!

Amazing playing as usual. Still fiddling hard but missed my Bodhran time.

    Take care,

    Jane

  • It is a beautiful demonstration of what one can achieve in Kerry style, and your other videos come in very handy too to review the basics and get avanced training. Thank you for putting such a wealth of info together!

  • Beautiful playing Michelle as always. Michelle and I are always discussing when we will be heading to Scotland to pay you a visit. We will miss you all.

    Glenn

  • wowwee..makes me want to give up right now :)

  • Great stuff, thank you for posting more! I always look forward to your new videos...thank you, thank you!

  • Michelle! It's matthew, I took your class at the gaelic college in early july! Haha, I found your videos! The first part of that solo is very recognizable! hahaha,

I don't know if you remember, but I played bass with the Dartmouth and District Grade 4 pipe band this year, and I just thought I'd inform you that we came 2nd this year in maxville! :D haha, so we're moving up to grade 3! also, I missed this solo live when I was there, so I'm glad i got to see it !

  • Thxs Michelle wonderful to see you doing your stuff - love your gorgeous accent x

  • Loved this solo; your Kerry style of play is evocative and spiritual.

Your lessons are truly helpful to me, and I thank you Michelle!

  • A Class Act all the way ! ! Loved it when u switch to brushes for the salsa beat's.

    5 ***** 's .

  • Gorgeous. I followed some your lessons and I tested on a tamburello, but it is not the same thing.

    Thank you for your Art

  • awesome! oh and thanks for all the tutorials they really helped! the bodhran is finally off the piano and is in use now thanks to u!

  • Thanks!...I might put a Bodhran one up soon ;)

  • spectacular..really good stuff.

do you do many gigs? Love to come see you live.

  • Absolutely brilliant! I could listen to that all day! :D

I think my favourite bit was the salsa bit, but it's so hard to choose a "favourite bit" when the whole thing is played at this standard! :)

  • Michelle, excellent playing. I learn so much from watching your technique. Thanks!

  • Thanks for your comment. I'm so glad you liked it. I love the fact that no two bodhran players are alike.

  • You are really amazing, wish I could play like you :D..The first part is what you taught us in the "7 days rhytms" right.

  • Your're right Jardu. Well spotted. Thank you so much for your kind words. And remember I was once where you are, but I didn't have anyone to show me the ropes like this so you're already ahead. lol

  • Fun trick Michelle, I'll have to try the "fake triplet" myself sometime. Great video. Good to see a professional still playing the Kerry style. John Joe Kelly and Eamon Murray are great and all, but top-end is too boring for me.

    Keep it up!
