yea these are getting harder to find on the mainland like the other species of gecko as they did,not evolve with mammalian predators that can hunt by smell they used camo and a prehensile tail to avoid there only bird predators so when rodents mustelids feral cats and hedgehogs that came with man 700 years ago they wernt equip,d with defence for them plus they only have 2 babys per year at most
I've wanted a c.b. pair for a while now and im kinda struggling to find some care sheets on them can give me all the temps and every thing i need to know and a good breeder there or in the us thanks.
Their mouths aren't big enough to bite you really. They try if you really annoy them. There is a larger gecko called Duvacel's gecko in NZ that is large enough to bite you.
I live in the U.S. I wanted to import and few to captive bread them. However, there is mass problems with importing them. I would give almost anything to see them in the wild. In California we a gecko that is very rare and I have yet to see one in the wild. The scientist who know were it is are very protective and they should be. I hope no one finds them.
In New Zealand you can apply for permits to keep these geckos. If you can demonstrate that you have a suitable enclosure and some knowledge of the animals' needs then geckos can be given to you free of charge from the Department of Conservation. Maybe they do this in California too.

Sorry I don't have that info. Maybe contact a herpetological society in New Zealand.

Do you live in New Zealand? Lots of places to see them in captivity but they are difficult to find in the wild.
