  • would the powder set off if droped on the ground if it had enough friction

  • magnesium sounds like magnet can i grind up a refrigerator magnet and sprinkle it on a aluminum baseball bat to make flash powder or super nano thermite? /troll

  • anyone notice the bomb report in the paper he uses? irony?

  • whats the purpose of it being green if its used in mostly say firecracker and used for shells and etc i don't see the purpose of it being green at all plz respond.

  • Needs a chlorine donor for more color. Use parlon and Barium chlorate maybe?

  • mill- able?

  • BOOOM!!!!!!

  • my magnesium is not allowed to be mixed with sulfur, help?

  • @epiclolzzor Says who?

  • I'm impressed. I didn't know flash powder could be made without perchlorate.

  • im not gettin the joke , everyone is using magnesium powder - so i bought too - but will it work with magnesiumcarbonate ???

  • @HackNowLiveLater I will help you out and give you your answer. no Magnesium Carbonate is not reactive with the following chemicals in this video. I would not bother buying chemicals if you are not sure what they do.

  • can you write me what did you use plese ?

  • ok, i have tried to find out where to get these stuff for a LONG time, so WHERE THE FUCK CAN I GET THEM?! thank u :P i love ur vids :P

  • @chrisogmartine man seriously WTF type in google, but after all i know how you feel typing in google doesnt really give you anything. but there is this very cool website called skylighter, type that into google and click the first link. then you see the search button on the top so you type in sulfur, magnesium, zinc powder or whatever you need, they sell chemicals by pound and not by grams or any thing there is another website called unitednuclear

  • @chrisogmartine get them at skylighter

  • i love how its an article of a bomb in the newspaper

  • mix a diper, lol!!! ????

  • YouTube is my best friend... XD

  • YOutube, Teaching younger Generation how to make explosive type materials :D

  • I am a pyrotechnic chemist. You should mix your two fuels seperately. Then mix the sulpher with the fuel & you would get a much better reaction as the mix would be way more intimately mixed. Also a way easier way to get Green flash powder is Just to use Aluminum with Barium Chlorate. If you want to see some proffessionally made sub micron magnesium and the best aluminum salutes. Go see my vids thechemist45

  • ok but question, where do you get these ingredients?

  • can u use magnesium oxide ???

  • @MrMycraphole123 no, because it is already oxidized, and thats what the sulfur does to cause the reaction.

  • wheres the oxidiser?

  • @pyro12311 Read the comments, Sulfur plays part as the oxidizer in this reaction.

  • do u have to use sulfur? or can i use potasium nitrate instead?

  • EMBASSY!

  • Anyone read the newspaper heading talking about bombs lol

  • @TheBombBros Yeah, I thought it was hilarious! Great demo btw. Thanks

  • I like how you made the flash powder on a newspaper with an article about bombs. :)

  • @cheesynerd117 I did not mean to at all! it was an accident. I realized it after I watched the video. Kind of ironic!

I don't make bombs though, I just enjoy the art of pyrotechnics!

  • @TheBombBros that's not ironic at all, not trying to be a dick, it's just EVERYBODY misuses that word. the true definition is: the use of a word other than it's literal intention. so if some one trips and you say, "well that was graceful!" that would be ironic. which means alanis morissette's song "isn't it ironic" is so funny to me, nothing she list in there is ironic, there inconvenient. lol and a bit more on topic, i love your videos, they've been a big help in my own projects.

  • @chakra25king I do not use the word "bomb" in my pyrotechnic vocabulary. I only speak of it when warning people not to get on the wrong side of Pyrotechnics. No offense taken, but Im am making things clear, I have had multiple comments about that, and I wish The paper did not say that in the video, yet there is nothing I can do besides redo the video, and I am likely not going to.

  • @TheBombBros Your name is "TheBombBros", pretty sure you sum everything up right there.

  • @frasern2011 I do not make bombs, never have and never will. i would report illegal manufacturing of explosives if someone i even knew made bomb(s).

  • Oh my God... it is green... :D

  • Hey can you please tell me if it's flash powder or black powder inside those gay little morning glory sparklers? They're the ones that look like road flares when u burn them

  • @halopartyboy It's neither, it's a different composition. Generally there's a metallic fuel (Aluminium, Magnesium, Iron, Titanium etc.) , additional fuel (Sulphur, Charcoal), oxidizer (Potassium Nitrate, Potassium Perchlorate, Barium Nitrate, Strontium Nitrate etc.) combustible binder (Dextrin, Nitrocellulose) and sometimes a pyrotechnic colorant (Chlorides/Nitrates of metals like Barium (Green), Strontium (Red?) and Copper (Blue). Hope this helped

  • A good flash powder mixture I have made is 1part sodium nitrate and 1 part magnesium.

  • @amaturechemist777 what about pottasium nitrate and sodium nitarte mixed together? i have both but i cud never get my black powder burning quick enough with the sodium nitrate :/

  • The zinc turns it green, the sulphur does nothing but smell........I think

  • those metals look pritty coarse.

  • whats the oxidizer???

    why it works?

i would say you need something like Ba(NO2)3 or KNO3 ?!

  • @micPyro The Sulfur plays part as the oxidizer in this mix because it s a reaction mix, not just a fuel and oxidizer.

  • @TheBombBros

    thanks for answer.

where you got the zink powder?

will it works when you take some zink metall and "sandpaper" it?

    sory for my english :)

  • @micPyro yes, but sandpaper would cantaminate it. I used a special grinder.

  • @micPyro

    oxidation: S_8 --> 8 S2- + 16 e-

    reduction: Zn + 2 e- --> Zn2+

    redox: S_8 + 8 Zn --> ZnS

    Reaction product is called Zinc(II)sulfide.

    The same for Magnesium

  • @xxxXThunderstormXxxx

    thanks :)

  • I don't know if these will work too, but can I use Battery materials [e.g. washed/dried MnO paste and powdered zinc metal]?

  • @IIGiH No, there is nothing there but fuels, you need an oxidizer.

  • it is important to handle with care... you are making a 10 gram batch in a closed room man...

  • Where did you get your supplies?

  • CAN U GET SULFUR FROM FLAYERS

  • i know that it burns and its legit but does anyone know what the oxidizer is in this

  • @breckenridge21 The Sulfur plays part as an oxidizer in this mix.

  • I'm confused, this doesn't look like there is any oxidizer in this composition, unless the aluminum reduces the zinc using it as fuel?

Also lol at there being "bomb" in the upper left hand corner of the newspapper.

    :D

  • @WacticalTactical Yeah ignore the part of the paper. There is no Aluminum, not sure where you see that. It is Mg, Zn, S. The sulfur actually plays part as the oxidizer in this mix.

  • where do you gett this powder

  • Nice flash :)

Too bad the cam didn't pick it up well but yeah I could see in slowmo it's green.

Can I ask you to be careful who you give info/resources to? By reading the comments I get the idea there are a lot of unexperienced people (kids?) around here who want to try this stuff. If they don't even know the chems or how to obtain them, they shouldn't be making any flash in the first place!

If people are interested they need to get info and read books. Flash shouldn't be made by the "newbs"

  • @PyroCreationZ i understand. that is why I say it in a way that they couldnt understand. like for instance. i say KClO4/Al is a common, more safe mix than this. they do not know what i am talking about. if they do know, most newbs dont have a clue how to get these chems. but i understand what you are saying, and I agree 100%.

thankyou for your concern. ill watch what I say.

  • @TheBombBros i have a question, i just bought a pound of Mg/Al and its -200 mesh and i need to make 325 mesh do u know how long i should mill it for thanks. i subscirbed

  • @AW1338 I never milled Magnalium. I normally just buy it fine enough. Just don't mill it with an oxidizer. I would estimate around 2-8 hours since I normally mill Black Powder for about 8. But it should'nt take as long as Black Powder since Mg/Al is more brittle. Just mill it outside!!! in a garage or shed. Even better, just mill it in your yard. this is preferred if there is ignition, it will not hurt anyone/anything but your mill.

  • @TheBombBros hey man you ever think about filling a pill bottle about a third of the way with that green powder of yours and carefully mixing in bb's its a good way to make a flashbang for the 4th of july, i say a third of the way cuz that seems to be more than enough to cause it to burst.

  • @downlowcrew13 the pill bottle would be far to dangerous, and so would the bbs.

try starting with cardboard. without the projectiles. pyrotechnitians usually dont use any type of container other than rolled paper or cardboard. and i have never made anything other than paper devices.and if made properly, much better than those pipe bombs you see kids make on youtube. its far more safe and skilled with paper too.

  • lol ur makin flashpowder n the newsspaper article says something about a bomb

  • @hhmm89 yeah i didnt mean to do that. it was just what i grabbed. but yeah im not a terrorist and i dont like bombs.

  • Cool. I will try this.

  • Add more sulfur and you will get a slower burn like a flash grenade

  • @Tyson200422 flash grenades are very fast and produce a blinding flash. but im not making a grenade of any sort. this is just a generic version of green flash that is not as strong and much safer than others.

  • i make a better one with much better color

  • @allrocketspsl good for you. i do not make this flash. i use KClO4/Al.

this was just a video i came up with.

  • If you added zinc, it should be blue color. Not green. If you add a copper powder, then it's green.

  • @Ubojica6661 not always. copper sulfate burns blue, so does copper chloride.

and i learned this mix from a good friend. at it burns green. i can guarantee this is zinc.

  • @TheBombBros Copper powder, not copper sulfate. But copper sulfate also burn green colour. Im 100% Sure that the zinc burns blue. But im not 100% sure how does it react with this mix of sulphur and magnesium. My mother is college chemistry teacher, so I will ask her. But im 100% sure in this what I said.

  • @Ubojica6661 okay but that is why this mixture produces a teal green color. your not even a pyrotechnition and would have no clue even what the atomic mass or properties of these chemicals are so therefore you would not be considered safe handling them. you probably couldnt give me five examples of salts and five examples of bases that are used in oxidation and fuel for pyrotechnics.

  • @Ubojica6661 also i would like to stress on factor on you. this mixture is Mg/S/Zn.

this mixture between sulfur and magnesium must react at a certain temperature otherwise it will not burn the zinc giving off gas, energy, and a green color. If zinc were replaced by copper, the reaction would not be hot enough and would not work.

there is a different compound called potassium perchlorate which is a powerful oxidizer and helps something show its color. but it would not work with this mixture.

  • @Ubojica6661 if your so sure you are right, make a video proving you are right. but i give you little chance of success.

  • @TheBombBros Well, in my countrey it is hard to find all shits you put into it. But I will try it in school. My chemistry teacher loves me.

  • @Ubojica6661 you obviously are not suited to make any compositions of any kind. its not always what you can do and how you can prove it, its what you know. and knowledge is the most important factor in pyrotechnics due to the fact if you have no clue what you are doing, not only will you look meek, you can get hurt very badly. maybe give it 2 or 3 years of learning before you start telling people how to do something. stop commenting, i dont want to hear what you have to say.

  • @TheBombBros So, as I can see see, you're a nerd! (in a bad way)

  • @Ubojica6661 ooh, you insulted me. i am what i am names dont affect me. no, im not a nerd, but you can say what you want because your just another 10 year old kid trying to look cool to impress your friends. very child like.

  • @TheBombBros You saying me that im 10 year old?

  • @Ubojica6661 HURRRDURRRR Can you not read? Yeah he did lol I'm genuinely 11 but I know not to leave bullshit comments like that as I can see he is a novice, nay, expert pyrotechnician. So just go an fuck off

  • @Rockflier Thankyou. I can almost guarantee nobody who has commented on this page is well experienced, I have built shells for 2 years and gerbs for 3 years but I still am not well enough experienced to put on a show or anything.

  • @TheBombBros Wow, I was expecting a comment from someone like, "Get the fuck off of YouTube, you stupid little kid!" Thanks man

  • @Rockflier No problem. I respect those who don't try to tell me something I already know. Like when they tell me my ratio is wrong or I am using the wrong chems. This video was not how to make professional grade colored flash, It was a simple demonstration.

  • @Rockflier Still, copper has a green colour of burning and zinc have blue color.

  • @Ubojica6661 I'm sorry, but did I say that it doesn't? Please tell me if I did because I don't think I did.

  • @Ubojica6661 still, you was trollin on my comment.

  • @Ubojica6661

Here's a hint for you: pay more attention in chemistry class ;)

  • well, the only way to achieve your chemicals is to buy off of websites that sell in your area. (try chemistry). ir just make them. if you want to learn how to make them, check out my Potassium Chlorate synthesis video. there are other methods besides my method too.

  • where can i buy the zinc

  • is the aluminum paint grade or pyrotechnic grade?

  • Doesn't make much sense to make flash powder, which burns at an extremely fast rate (flash) burn green.

  • @diabeticwaffle1 actually it does. it adds color to salutes.

  • @TheBombBros i've been told that you dont need magnesium, zinc and sulphur work by themselves?? also would zinc that i get from battery casings be all good?

  • @basoboii you can try it but the magnesium speeds it up greatly. you can buy zinc bars or zinc dust. its easier and cheaper. just plain zinc and sulfer burn extremely slow. more like a smoke or flare fuel. you need the magnesium in this case.

  • @TheBombBros well, i live in australia, and i doubt we would be able to buy zinc bars or dust, sulphur is easy but magnesium is hard as well, i can buy them off a website, but i have really gay parents lol

  • @basoboii i see. well, if you want to make flash, the safest mix is potassium perchlorate and aluminum. but if you have that, i would reccomend sticking with it. this mix is safe, but its not a good flash to start with. and plus everything will break green. but these chems are cheap and do not always have to be purchased online. sometimes you can purchase these at a retail store. some popular stores have products like stump remover that contain useful chemicals. but you have to look.

  • @TheBombBros stump remover is not available, due to it being pretty much pure KN03, also nitrate fertiliser (Ammonium Nitrate and Potassium Nitrate) is banned, most things are banned, the only readily available oxidizer is Chlorine

the only reason we can get sulphur is for gardens, and its not dangerous on its own, we are restricted to the max, and i hate it

  • nice flashpowder i have tried it in a m-80 gives a nice deepbang it is also realy good for a flashbang i have seen last night

  • Is there a way to evaluate the ''mesh grade''? How do you call this ''mesh grade'', it's certainly not called ''mesh grade'', no?

  • where does this flash get it's oxygen when it only got zinc, magnesium and sulfur in it? or is it a different kind of reaction? :S

  • @FOATE the sulfur actually plays part as an oxidizer. and the others are fuels.

  • @TheBombBros but how can it ignite when theres no oxygen present? I can only imagine that it's some kind of redox reaction, anyways, i havent been looking into chemistry that much the last year so i forgot most things like that ;p

  • @FOATE the oxygen comes from the oxidizer. Sulfur.

its not normally an oxidizer but it is in this case.

it also lowers the ignition temperature.

  • @TheBombBros Is there a way to evaluate the ''mesh grade''? How do you call this ''mesh grade'', it's certainly not called ''mesh grade'', no?

  • @nickalisse its mesh size. simply the size of each particle in a type of measurement usually measured by sifting through a screen.

  • @TheBombBros Haaa! Thank you, it's been a while since I searched for a way to mesured it. Finally it was quite simple. But, is the screen has a size for its holes? --> So I can evaluate my grain size. I mean: on what should I base myself to qualify the powders? How can I say-: ''O.K. this one is a 300 mesh, this one is a 600 mesh, etc.'' If I don't have the size of the spaces between the screen, on what do I gadge the grain? What would be the flour grain size?

  • @nickalisse well, i believe the numbers in a screen per square inch determine mesh size. and i would classify flour as airfloat. anything non metal that is as fine as possible (in my circumstances) is considered airfloat. but i do not usually classify metals being airfloat. just measure them by mesh. or if you just buy the chemicals they will either say granulated or airfloat. but metals will just go by mesh size.

  • @TheBombBros Thank you very much. Your thinking & explanation makes pleanny of sense. Whit this I'll try to find more specific knowledge.

  • @nickalisse does that not help? i can explain it differently.

google mesh size and look at wikipedia. the size of flour is considered airfloat.

but anything with larger mesh is graded by the mesh size. the mesh size is determined by sifting through a specific sized sreen. if it passes, it is a higher mesh.

  • @TheBombBros Even better! Ur 1st explanation was good though. I thought I understood well what you meant, but now it's even clearer. Sometimes it's my questions that aren't clear. So people may think that their explanation aren't quite good enough. But it isn't. Now what I want to know is the specific sizes of particular screens. So, when my powders will pass trough those holes I will be able to say-: O.K. this screen is a X mesh size so my powder is also a X mesh size. BTW thank u very much.

  • @nickalisse no problem, glad to help.

  • ccol we figured you guys would know for sure. is it a half and half mixture or is that up to experementing haha? thanks again Joseph T fly2000jtb

  • @fly2000jtb no, its like 95:5

    95Ammonium Nitrate, 5Al

  • what is the stuff called that you shoot with a rifle and it blows up? mythbusters had some guys on making it with house hold materials but blacked out key ingredents so us out here could not make any. since you guys no about this we thought we would ask you all, cool video too learned alot thanks Joseph T fly2000jtb

  • @fly2000jtb its tannerite. a mixture of ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder.

  • does this give a green flash when confined ?

  • @Ralphgtx280 yes, a very deep green color.

  • @Ralphgtx280 awesome what sizes has it worked for you in (will a 3" areal salute filled with this still be a good colour despite being very large I know more traditional coloured flash powders have a limited mass range over which they will exhibit the desired colour)

  • @Ralphgtx280 oh yeah, it will still work. maybe add some Ti for an effect too. you can also add sunflowr seeds to fill space so you do not have to use a whole lot of flash. because this flash is relatively heavy. it will still work with just flash, it will just take a bit more lift. i have used it in 2" shells and a 2.5" rocket header and it performed great. if you build one, send me the video. i want to see how it turns out.

  • @TheBombBros oh ill surely build one Ill try and get a vid will be setting it off in a few weeks along with about 40kg of other pyrotechnic materials

  • hey, i'm going into paintball, and my friends and i (everynow and then) enjoy making people go wtf was that (yes we have had our asses busted in the past... this is nothing) what would happen if the combination was compacted in a container (preferable plastic)? and what amounts would be safe enough to not rupture ear drums and/or cause permenant damage. and where do i fibd this chemicals. never new you could buy zinc.

  • @noiosofo you would be better off with a fifferent flash than this for a use like that. one that produces more smoke and more light. try KClO4/Al.

it is more powerful though. so only use like 1 gram of that. this i would suggest around two grams. never underestimate flash powder. and do not compact it in a container, just fill it up to cover the voids, if you press it in, it can behave like a rocket.

  • note the words "Bomb try" on the newspaper in the top right xD

  • do you need zinc, could you replace it with say....copper sulphate??

  • @basoboii well, in a different ratio and minus the sulfur. but its not safe at all. it is impact sensitive, therefore useless.

  • @TheBombBros :) impact sensitive you say...... I LIKE IT :), i could use it in making RPG's :)

  • @basoboii i will have no part in that. i will not be responsible for any terrorist attack. what you do is on your own.

  • nice! i might alloy Mg and Zn 40/60 may be good.

  • right ive just tried this and it works quite well but i think if you ball mill it for say an hour it greatly improves it and will be lit with any hot ember. also wear a dust mask as the smoke is poisinous i belive but also it doesnt semll all that healthy. please comment TheBombBros to let everyone see

  • @SwirlyNut well, i do not believe it is toxic, as the chemicals are all relatively safe. but there is obviously a reaction going on. in this case, the sulfur acts as an oxidizer rather than a fuel. i would reccomend ball milling the chemicals separately. DO NOT mill them together as it could be dangerous. it is dangerous to mill any metalls with an oxidizer present. they can be milled, just do not mill any of them together. only mill black powder as a whole, nothing else.

    -regards

  • @TheBombBros sulfur can oxidize it has no oxegen in it

  • @diapysik but it plays part as an oxidizer in this reaction. and im not even sure what you said is true. i think you came up with it on your own. like alot of kids do on youtube.

  • @TheBombBros mabey when it burns into sulfur dioxide the mg gets hot enough to react with the oxegen

  • @diapysik the sulfur plays part as an oxidizer in this reaction. theres the oxygen source.

  • @iSh0tYoAZZ thank you. I came up with this composition from scratch. Just a bit of experimenting.

  • nice

  • Comment removed

  • lastly (maybe) if you hit this would it explode because you said handle with care does it go off JUST to fire or can you make it go off easier?

  • @shotgunpi most likely not because everything in this is relatively safe. but it is not safe to ram any fuel other than black powder. i press my whistle motors because the fuel isnt safe to ram.

    regards

  • @TheBombBros WHAT I MEANT WAS; if you take the stuff you just make and do somthing like put it into a ping pong ball with match striker strips and meatch head WILL IT GO OFF ON IMPACT or is it just fire that sets it off

  • where could i get all of this together?

  • wht if i use more grams oh say..............10 GRAMS OF EACH >:D what would the splosion be on the count of 1 to 20? and would it have the capability to blind people?

  • @shotgunpi

Its questions like this that give pyro a bad name... but no, unless if you held it to your face...no blinding, and depending on the amount of confinement, a gigantic fegging explosion...you couldnt just use 10 grams of each though, it wouldnt work well, you need to use the ratios he describes...you should be able to find them all on ebay, if you cant find the magnesium on ebay, go to walmart, but a magnesium firestarter, and file it to hell.

  • @mastermakerhacker thanks for explaining that. i get alot of stupid comments and i mostly just ignore them.

  • @TheBombBros

I probably should of just ripped him another asshole by telling him he was a stupid fuck and shouldnt be making flash powder if your thinking about using it in those ways...its not crap to mess with, 2 grams is enough to take off a finger EASILY

  • @TheBombBros

I researched for 3 years before i even started to mess with KNSU.....

  • @mastermakerhacker i know this is a little late but IDIOT ITS CALLED A JOKE DERP

  • @shotgunpi

Yeah, im the idiot, dude just get off of pyrotechnics if your going to act like this. Its not a joke, its not even close to funny, if your asking people if the stuff can be used for archanist purposes. As i said before, people like you give pyro a bad name.

  • i noticed theres a no "smoke bombs" in the city articale :D

  • cool sound in slow motion

  • a wood stick works great to stir and no recourse lol

  • could you also use copper instead of zinc ?

  • @IanRobot i get asked this question alot. copper does indeed burn green, but it needs to be very fine and you will likely need another oxidizer such as K perchlorate because per-chlorates help with color. but just adding copper to this will slow it down and the green wont be visible because its burning temperature is very high.

  • @TheBombBros WHAT IS KNO3 I CANT FIND IT WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!!!

  • @iWaNtFuCkInGpOrN K(NO3) is the elemental letters for Potassium (K) Nitrate (NO3). Potassium Nitrate is one of the most common oxidizers used in black powder, and streamer stars. it is also used in mild flash powders, rocket fuel, and fountains. it has a wide variety of uses. and is the safest oxidizer on the market. you can practically eat the stuff with no harm done. it can also be rammed while other fuels cannot be. ask me if you have more questions. You can buy Potassium Nitrate on Ebay.

  • @TheBombBros or you can go to lowes and buy stump remover

  • @iWaNtFuCkInGpOrN goto pyrosupplies . moonfruit . c o m

  • it says bomb on the side of the newspaper lol

  • @countryboy8527 your the first person to notice that besides me!

i didnt mean to grab that piece of paper. it just happened.

thanks for the comment and view!

  • Is KNO3,AL and S quite a stable mix? and is 400 mesh AL OK?

  • @1willd1 yeah but it wont burn green if thats what you want.

it is somewhat stable. its good enough for use in shells.

its called dirty flash but i dont like it because ts an expensive flash.

    i prefer KClO4/Al.

  • yeah it didnt mate

  • @allrocketspsl didnt what?

  • Where do you get magnesium powder?
