Microsoft is in a serious rut of churning out the same product over and over with minor improvements. They need to take some lessons from Google and rethink the way people use technology.
Thanks microsoft, it's real pretty. Of course it doesn't do anything new that previous version have done. Unless you're playing games you could run on Windows 2000 just fine. It'd run a hell of a lot quicker, too.
The fading windows and bs is great, but it all looks like a cpu-hogging, top heavy graphical layer I'll probably just disable anyways.
Some of the user experience changes are nice, but it doesn't warrant an upgrade unless it performs seriously better (which I can't tell from this demo, if the media player demo around 3:30 is any indication, I would say no since the video was choppy, but that just might be lost in the video creation and upload to youtube. regardless, I use VLC, not mediaplayer. I like videos to "just work" when I double-click them).
Overall processor usage in Ubuntu was improved by better management on the primary basis that programs run in a module like state. The overall control and security that Ubuntu offers is both safe and easy. While windows just shifts things around.
Furthermore I doubt you're a Linux user, its not about superiority but community... improving the status quo.
Oh and whats that smell... you BURNED!
If you wish to reply I might suggest using facts rather than bad intuition and lies... damn sheeple.
Second, I did research and then I installed it. My memory usage reduced ~400mb in Ubuntu, this comparison includes post Windows modifications via the msconfig and additional means. Not to mention the lack of wasted data retention. Ask any senior programmer (which I am).
This is also a benefit that can be seen in MAC systems as well. While I do hate MACs (reasons will wait for another day) they're system run better for the same reason accept MAC OSs are based on the Unix kernel.
They did improve on a few things. However the program crashing has slightly reduced but considering I installed nothing new and used "out of the box" programs, it shouldn't have programs crashing at all (although more rare, in its defense). The Administration is still pissing me off. This is my computer, I am the administrator! Even if you make yourself the admin you are not technically the admin. Even after you go through all the crap in DOS, its still not worth it.
First off I got all my friends to switch (and they're lovin it) and a friend got me guided me to switch in the first place. My reasons for switching were because Vista was killing me with their Administration (or lack there of) in addition to the resource hogging not to mention ALL the errors I would get and other+++. Most of which has not changed in 7.
Because of where I work, I got a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate last month. I've tried it, mildly impressed.
this vid is great now i really want a new laptop with all these new changes xD n word 2010!!! damn man xD anyways i think windows 7 is looking hot n i am gonna get it xP
I think you missed out on the "in my opinion" part at the end of your sentence. Because Ubuntu certainly is not better in terms of its game support, which is the primary factor that I consider when deciding on an OS.
Try the Ubuntu Ultimate Gamers Edition. It has games not in the 9.04 repository. In addition you can make games on there, although I don't know the program off hand. You'll have to ask around or just look, i'm sure its not hard to find. To be honest I didn't bother with it (games not my scene). Check it out for yourself, be your own judge. Cheers.
I just trashed my Ubuntu partition. Been dual booting into Linux for five years but I've finally had enough of downloading and compiling kernel modules and editing .conf files. Windows 7 just works and is amazing.
The oss software universe is amazing but I can get most of what I need precompiled for windows.
Linux can be difficult depending on the distro. Any distro of Ubuntu before 9.04 was a bitch, but they got the nail on the head with that one. If you started up that long ago, I can't blame you.
Interestingly enough I was giving my copy of 7 to my neighbor as an "upgrade" from Vista so he could keep all his programs... after about a half hour it froze for 20 minutes. Yeah, I gotta go over there again tomorrow, its to damn late to try it again. It's not a bad OS but it really pisses me off.
I want to be able to put my disc i the drive, install a game and play it. Ubuntu can't do that except for a very select few games. It's not at all practical for me or any other gamer to use Ubuntu for this purpose.
In stall the advanced version of WINE numbnuts. But thats fine, I don't really care about games. For pentesting I use a VM and it still runs windows faster. There are other options but you might actually have to think... sorry I didn't post a warning about that. So here you go... WARNING: if you don't like to think, use Windows... if your a complete f*cking retard, use MAC. Disclaimer: I don't care. :P
No need to get all hot and bothered just because someone doesn't like your beloved operating system. By the way, did I offend you in some way because you seem unreasonably hostile towards me. And my point remains; I can install and run games out of the box when using Windows. Why would I go to the bother of installing another operating system then installing another application just so that I can do the same thing?
Hostile? Ummmm. no?.. Ok dingle berry don't take things so personally all I am saying is think a little.
Yes, you might need to add an extra program or two. When you get things like that out of the box they're bloated and take up to many resources. The bottom line is performance. Once you get a good base then tack on what you need.
Bottom line, would you rather walk 5 miles with 20 kilos or 30 kilos of books. You'll make it there faster with 10.
dam! that looks so tight PPL! i mean it my dad works at Univirsity of TX and he can get it for me for super cheap under $50 i can get windows vista for $36 at his work!
It's most probable that you will have to reinstall everything indeed. I easily transfered my files to another partition and backed-up some on a cd just in case.
The installation is very simple :) I had to reinstall everything for RTM this week.
hi! Yes you can play games on Windows 7 ;) I myself am playing GTA: S.A. often here. Windows7 RC doesn't have Windows Movie Maker, but you can just download/use the one from Vista.
Hi! Well, try clicking right on your taskbar, then the highest menu ("menus" or sth like that) and look if iTunes is there? Then minimize iTunes and it should appear in your taskbar. Honestly, I think it just happened automatically here, without changing any setting in iTunes. (I'm using iTunes 8.2)
I would pay for it... $ 50 is a good price. I'm still using this as my default OS and am still very happy :D I'll still do a new install once the RTM comes out.
Lol yes :) Just type in Google "Windows 7 download" and download it for free via Microsoft website. Don't download (illegally) via torrents, doesn't make sense because it's faster to download it via Microsoft and you get a real activation key. The software is valid upto next year! :)

The RC lasts until March next year. The RTM (which I have now) lasts forever.
I got the RC legally from the site from Microsoft, which everyone could download until August 22...
The RTM you can only get if you have a subscription on TechNet, MSDN or MSDNAA.
