I first saw this on MTV in the fall of 1983 (instead of the HBO Video Jukebox chryon it had the classic MTV chryon which had the artist, song, album which song appeared and record label at start and finish of the video).
Men At Work
"High Wire"
Cargo
Columbia/CBS Records
Prior to getting cable and Music TeleVision, I only saw videos on America's Top 10 (that's where I first saw Supertramp's It's Raining Again, Styx's Mr Roboto, Men at Work's Overkill, Pink Floyd's Not Now John videos)
Not a great song...... and "Men at Work" was not a great group. But their music brings me back to the simple carefree time of my childhood. Playing " Business as Usual" and "Cargo" on vinyl.....I miss those days....
@Univermag So you say NOT a great group? so why you buy their albums? apart from best of, these two albums are superb......i think you really are a closet Men At Work Fan......enjoy the music 251,269 people cannot be wrong.....!!!!!!!!
I remember back in '83, when MTV news reported that a video was being filmed for "Highwire". Even had a clip of Colin Haye on the floating mattress. Yet, I never saw the video once on MTV. Not until now....18 years later.
I remember this video from seeing it on HBO's Video Jukebox, which was a 30 minute program that featured new music videos. They would run the same videos for a month, then switch to a new batch. A lot of otherwise forgotten videos have been stuck in my memory because of that show.
Ain't that the sad truth. It's not even entertainment....its a bunch of whores or gangstas that can't even read or write, let alone play an instrument. Today's music is pretty much all the equivalent of a fast food hamburger....processed crap.
Colin Hay is a comedian as well as singer-songwriter! These video's were pretty hilarious! Too bad I couldn't appreciate their low-budget appeal back in the day...
Hi, what a great band, the realy 80s whilst in the persian gulf for 8 months guarding the shipping lanes with the Royal navy, listening to great tapes from Men at work ,remember buying bootleg copies for 50p (uk) and what a bargain ,still got the copies in the shed and upgraded to CD, Kids dont know what to do when Dad is blasting out in broken support at 120 DBA..thanks muchley for the post...
I used to listen to this tape on my sony walkman sport while I played Atari Adventure. MAW always bring back good memories of simpler times. :^) Thanks for posting.
