After gaining my Flight Master's License, my Night Elf Warrior took a trip back to Auberdine to see if the rumors were true. I remembered growing up and playing there, learning how to craft goods for my amusement. Then I visited Ashenvale, my second home in the world, and it had been utterly changed. Not just by Deathwing, but by those monsters who dared destroy our sacred trees before. From that moment, I vowed not to stop killing Orcs until every tree grows back to its full potential.
...my first reaction when I saw my favorite quest area. I must say it's still my fave quest area - the new quests are so fitting, finding injured people, helping to rebuild... the quest with Grimclaw and his master Volcor were sooo sad.
Ohh Auberdine, the least quested place ever. Not even silverpine forest could stand up to your unwanted quests where night elf noobs just left the shore to go for much funnier quests in westfall
Being a member of The Horde I look at this and it brings a bad taste to mouth. If something like this had ever happened to Brill , I would have stopped playing . ( yes, I am an undead and UC has been my home since lvl 9 )

I greatly miss Auberdine. I used to hate Darkshore to no end, but fell in love with it after a while. Yes, towns irl have been rebuilt, but it's not the same, it's still sad. Doing what I call the 'revenge questline' for Auberdine after Cata was released brought tears to my eyes. Seeing all those NPCs dead was like losing friends. In-game, anyway.
Oh come on. IRL, thousands of towns were completely razed and rebuilt multiple times through history. There's no "RIP", unless those lazy-ass purple fossils will just leave it in ruins.
@BigAngeloSantorini Aye... the boat from Teldrassil to Menethil Harbour... then the long long walk to Ironforge for your first visit there and in Stormwind... really epic it was, however they are memories now, history. Live goes on!
All the Night elf places have changed in a bad way. Felwood is corrupt, Azshara taken over, Ferlas gone wild, Ashenvale been deforestated. Duskwood ripped to shreds and Mount Hyjal one of the biggest war zones in cataclysm. The ONLY safe Night Elf place is Teldrassil....But look on the bright side, Malfurians back >:D

@NotoriousDudeable It really wasn't his own power. He was just able to destroy this one thing in a different world, and THAT destroyed the world.
It's like when we destroy buildings. We go for it's foundation with dynamites instead of using a wrecking ball, because it causes the who thing to come down easily. That's what Deathwing did, which in fantasy really doesn't require much.

In fact they both should be able to kill by one person - of course, powerful "demon hunter" and The Lich King... but they weren't Eternal Guardians of the Earth! They weren't sent here by Titans. And they didn't make Demon Soul - the most dangerous thing in the world, fear of the Burning Legion. Maybe it will be 40?
Deathwing was not locked up by the Night Elves that was Illidan. The Red Dragon Flight locked up Deathwing beneath Grim Batol, with the help of Rhonin who destroyed the Demon Soul.
i remember when i was lvl 10, i was a noob and wandered onto the boat, i fell off the boat, got chased by murlocs, rabid crab and mr T(jk) then found auberdine...i was really happy i found it.....i loved the music...now Deathwing destroyed it.. /crai x( R.I.P, Auberdine!
@Boromir26 What else for the alliance... Stormwind got attacked, the park is gone amongst some other problems most likely. Southshore was massacred by the forsaken. Black rock orcs destroyed the vineyard in Northshire... (=P) Everyone is poor or a murderer or both in Westfall. Menethil Harbor was obliterated. Worgen get run out of Gilnease by the forsaken effectively. From what I understand the alliance also get totally massacred in Stonetalon also. Yea Alliance got shafted hard.
Cataclysm has iht the Night Elfs far to strong!! It is obvious that they are least favoured by the events, Auberdine gone, Ashenvale lost to the horde inlcuding a burning Astranaar, Azhara completely taken over by the goblins!! It really is sad!! I am not a particular fan of the nelfs but hey I still think blizz went a bit too far!
@Boromir26 I agree, especially because I like this town. But in reality the Horde got screwed pretty bad too. Durotar = Flooded. Alliance has multiple bases in the Barrens (Once a Horde only zone). Alliance took out the Horde base in Swamp of Sorrows.
Also, none of the other Alliances races really got screwed, I mean. The Draenei got nothing at all, humans, not much. Gnomes and Dwarves..nothing. So I guess it was all vented towards the nelves.
@cbfd234 The sotry is simple.While the gnomezz are out of IF a sort of "packt" is made betwen bronzebeards and wildhammer.At this time the dark iron asault IF airport and other key locations.And also in taht timemagni's dauger comes with her half-dark iron son and tries to claim the throne.And as so a councel of the three hammers was made butr the dark irons atack didnt stop.Muradin(the bronzebeard representitve)says to moira taht if she cannot control her people she has no place there.
@Boromir26 Ashenvale isn't lost to the Horde, Auberdine gets replaced, we get Malfurion back, we got LOADS of new settlements. Azshsra was never the Night Elves anyway.
@Boromir26 Something terrible had to happen eventually. Life in Azeroth is not perfect and far from it ;) but I don't think blizzard went too far. Something like that had to happen.
@Boromir26 Well darkshore eventually gets retaken in the questlines, and the main horde base there gets burnt up by ancients.. Ashenvale is actually more of a stalemate than anything else.. with Night Elf, Worgen and Draenei holding just as much territory as the Horde. Though I agree the elves are hit pretty hard, its not like they're in this alone: Most of the remaining Gilnean population has moved to kalimdor and aids them.. same with the dreanei in azuremyst etc etc.
@Boromir26 Hey, hey, hey. I'm Alliance, but let's keep it real man. First, Ashenvale isn't "Horde", no, not even close. We keep a firm hold there, but yes, they are making progress. Still, we got like 7 hubs there, so does the Horde... Auberdine is so damn sad, the only big and NICE town of the NEs IMO... So I'll agree there, the NE's have been hit hard, and so have the Alliance, but not THAT hard. And Human lands? Westfall is f'ed up, but the rest survive after the quests.

But yeah, you have it rough.
Tauren have lost about half of their towns though, and their kingdom was very small in the first place. They've had to erect a wall (Despite originally being nomadic), so I'd say they have it harder.

@Boromir26 It's always been that way, though. Blizzard are going too far with their Horde favouritism with this expansion. The only town which is really destroyed for the Horde is Camp Taurajo and Blizzard couldn't even do that without pinning the blame on the Alliance.
@SarcasticSwordsman Heh, there's a lot more going on with the Horde than that. A LOT more. Magatha Grimtotem betrayed the Tauren, causing Cairne to be killed by poison, Thousand Needles has been flooded and there's fighting from the Grimtotem both there and Stonetalon, and the Alliance is encroaching on the Barrens, ruthlessly. Honor's Stand is theirs now, and Taurajo was destroyed because it was there. It was a hunter camp. There were children there. It felt good killing the looters.
@PinkSugar224 Actually, the people in Auberdine that were "just pixels" are gone permanently. And yes, while I understand it's just a game, when you've invest 5 years of Night Elf characters, knowing the "people" (aka mobiles), their background stories, quests, etc. like a familiar face in a familiar town for each toon, it can be a little sad to see them deleted permanently from the game.
@Boromir26 Alliance in general is getting hit hard, South shore has been destroyed, the Forsaken are marching into a decimated city of Gilinaies, the dwarves are getting overrun by troggs? ( I know wtf!), the gnomes have taken back gnomregan, but only half of it. Storm wind has been hit hard, but is rebuilding at least, the Draneie are the only ones, to be unchanged.
@Boromir26 actually, the NE's push back most of those attacks, as alliance by the time you get to astranaar is when the horde lights it on fire, you put the fires out and save the town.
@Boromir26 If u do the qs in Ashenvale as ally then u pretty much defeat the horde there... Even though i'm more of a horde-player i'm still glad that the horde gets pushed out from there because i rly like nelfs :)
@Boromir26 yes but fear not, Cenarius is somehow alive again and Malfurion is ready to kick some butt. I can see this expansion being very Thrall/Night Elf centered. But seriously, how the hell is Cenarius alive again??
@InferSader In Hyjal you bring back Avianna, one of the ancients. It stands to reason that Cenarius would be able to come back. After all, his spirit survived and was in the Emerald Dream
I may play both, but I play alli more and I can literally feel the emotion in this place blizzard is gettting amazing at creating music, not that they weren't before, but this is the best I've ever heard

My main is a night elf hunter, level 80. RPing server. When you build a character from the ground up, you can sometimes feel what they feel.
Having her stand before the ruins of Auberdine was a powerful experience, despite my character being just that.

Deathwing was not locked up by the Night Elves that was Illidan. The Red Dragon Flight locked up Deathwing beneath Grim Batol, with the help of Rhonin who destroyed the Demon Soul.

i remember when i was lvl 10, i was a noob and wandered onto the boat, i fell off the boat, got chased by murlocs, rabid crab and mr T(jk) then found auberdine...i was really happy i found it.....i loved the music...now Deathwing destroyed it.. /crai x( R.I.P, Auberdine!

@Boromir26 What else for the alliance... Stormwind got attacked, the park is gone amongst some other problems most likely. Southshore was massacred by the forsaken. Black rock orcs destroyed the vineyard in Northshire... (=P) Everyone is poor or a murderer or both in Westfall. Menethil Harbor was obliterated. Worgen get run out of Gilnease by the forsaken effectively. From what I understand the alliance also get totally massacred in Stonetalon also. Yea Alliance got shafted hard.

Cataclysm has iht the Night Elfs far to strong!! It is obvious that they are least favoured by the events, Auberdine gone, Ashenvale lost to the horde inlcuding a burning Astranaar, Azhara completely taken over by the goblins!! It really is sad!! I am not a particular fan of the nelfs but hey I still think blizz went a bit too far!

@Boromir26 I agree, especially because I like this town. But in reality the Horde got screwed pretty bad too. Durotar = Flooded. Alliance has multiple bases in the Barrens (Once a Horde only zone). Alliance took out the Horde base in Swamp of Sorrows.
Also, none of the other Alliances races really got screwed, I mean. The Draenei got nothing at all, humans, not much. Gnomes and Dwarves..nothing. So I guess it was all vented towards the nelves.

@cbfd234 The sotry is simple.While the gnomezz are out of IF a sort of "packt" is made betwen bronzebeards and wildhammer.At this time the dark iron asault IF airport and other key locations.And also in taht timemagni's dauger comes with her half-dark iron son and tries to claim the throne.And as so a councel of the three hammers was made butr the dark irons atack didnt stop.Muradin(the bronzebeard representitve)says to moira taht if she cannot control her people she has no place there.

Yes, it's because nearly whole Kalimdor has been ruled by the nightelves, but now dumb races are spreading and destroying their ancient kingdom...
But who cares? The nightelves survived some more trouble then this, as the oldest race in Azeroth.

@Boromir26 Well darkshore eventually gets retaken in the questlines, and the main horde base there gets burnt up by ancients.. Ashenvale is actually more of a stalemate than anything else.. with Night Elf, Worgen and Draenei holding just as much territory as the Horde. Though I agree the elves are hit pretty hard, its not like they're in this alone: Most of the remaining Gilnean population has moved to kalimdor and aids them.. same with the dreanei in azuremyst etc etc.

@Boromir26 Hey, hey, hey. I'm Alliance, but let's keep it real man. First, Ashenvale isn't "Horde", no, not even close. We keep a firm hold there, but yes, they are making progress. Still, we got like 7 hubs there, so does the Horde... Auberdine is so damn sad, the only big and NICE town of the NEs IMO... So I'll agree there, the NE's have been hit hard, and so have the Alliance, but not THAT hard. And Human lands? Westfall is f'ed up, but the rest survive after the quests.

But yeah, you have it rough.
Tauren have lost about half of their towns though, and their kingdom was very small in the first place. They've had to erect a wall (Despite originally being nomadic), so I'd say they have it harder.

@Boromir26 Not in my opinion, understand I love the nelves lore myself but from what I hear the elves get a massive story buff and retake Ashenvale. There story to my knowledge is that of the underdog, and damn it who doesn't like the underdog.

@Boromir26 It's always been that way, though. Blizzard are going too far with their Horde favouritism with this expansion. The only town which is really destroyed for the Horde is Camp Taurajo and Blizzard couldn't even do that without pinning the blame on the Alliance.

@SarcasticSwordsman Heh, there's a lot more going on with the Horde than that. A LOT more. Magatha Grimtotem betrayed the Tauren, causing Cairne to be killed by poison, Thousand Needles has been flooded and there's fighting from the Grimtotem both there and Stonetalon, and the Alliance is encroaching on the Barrens, ruthlessly. Honor's Stand is theirs now, and Taurajo was destroyed because it was there. It was a hunter camp. There were children there. It felt good killing the looters.

Ashenvale has not been lost to the Horde yet.
Auberdine was replaced.

@PinkSugar224 Actually, the people in Auberdine that were "just pixels" are gone permanently. And yes, while I understand it's just a game, when you've invest 5 years of Night Elf characters, knowing the "people" (aka mobiles), their background stories, quests, etc. like a familiar face in a familiar town for each toon, it can be a little sad to see them deleted permanently from the game.

@Boromir26 Alliance in general is getting hit hard, South shore has been destroyed, the Forsaken are marching into a decimated city of Gilinaies, the dwarves are getting overrun by troggs? ( I know wtf!), the gnomes have taken back gnomregan, but only half of it. Storm wind has been hit hard, but is rebuilding at least, the Draneie are the only ones, to be unchanged.

@Boromir26 actually, the NE's push back most of those attacks, as alliance by the time you get to astranaar is when the horde lights it on fire, you put the fires out and save the town.
