So maintenance is covered on my M3 for four yrs as part of the cost of the car. When 4 yrs is up, I will either trade it for the newer one, or maybe see what else is out there. Who cares if in 20 yrs, there are more IS-F's still on the road? I doubt it, but who cares. Who keeps a car for 20 yrs? Buy the best car for you for the next 2-6 years, the car you want to drive. After that, reliability is someone else's concern. The M3 will outlast the IS-F anyway.
I think this sums it up pretty well. There's a reason why the bmw m3 is the benchmark and every other sports car is constantly being compared to this amazing machine. My dad has a c63 amg and no doubt it is blistering fast but honestly I would still get the m3 because I like the perfect balance of power and handling not to mention its beautiful design.
I agree that the M3 is the best car. Grow some enthusiasm, my got the narrator sucks! This is supposed to inspire people and it seems like he is talking about a Buick.
i have the e92 m3 and wow im jealous of how the c63 looks, i always see it on the corner of my mirror on the freeway and let me just say i could use the larger engine and the torque!
your right if ppl are looking to race they will get the ISF because most people race on straight roads anyways most. Both cars are pretty close but the ISF is a 4L V8 which is bigger than the m3. I have to say I really like the design of the ISF but lets take a look at whatsinside the cabin. I feel BMW's technology is very high like does isf have the feature that the seatbelt gets handed to you and the awsome cuphlder that come out.But dashboards the ISF KILLS , the bmw looksplain
4 seconds per lap faster..image a race. BMW chasis is that much better..

Not to mention the super efficient engine Hi_Tech 8,300 RPM and a driving experience you only have to experience.
@joseabreu00 You're in for a surprise since the next gen M3 is rumored to get a TT 6-cylinder. I've driven both the C63 and M3 (debating between those and others), and compared to the C, I really felt the M3 belonged at the track and almost at the track only. Even though I agree its the natural born track car, I could not get over its harsher ride and low end torque. You asked when are you going to use the power and torque, well I'm gonna need that torque to get away at stoplights.
well i know a dude that drive taxies and he had a ford falcon that had 800 000 km on the speedo and now he drives a camry that's done 600 000. i couldn't believe the ford did 800 000 km!

Nothing personal but In 20 years the majority of Lexus IS-F's will still be in the road running stong compared to the number of M3's that will actually still be running. Toyota is much more reliable than BMW long term.
@Autoshopwing Japanese cars are not reliable you can die in those cars and they all have poor quality, i have seen enough garbage japanese cars!!! Germany cars are much more reliable and the quality is top of the line plus i see more older Mercedes than anyother car!!
Yes you are right. J.D. Powers, Consumer Reports, 2 friends who work in a BMW and VW dealership, friends of mine who owned Bimmers, and the mechanics I trust are all lying when they say Japanese cars overall are built with more reliabiity and quality than German cars.
@Autoshopwing Maybe the Japanese cars are a little more reliable than the german ones but doesn't mean a german car will break down countless times. There are people with bad luck that have problems like that but those are more exceptions.Don't forget the problems Toyota had recently.I don't know what's this philosophy in US that the german cars are not reliable. If that is true why they sell so many all around the world. The only american car we buy in ...
Japanese cars are more than a little more reliable than German cars. If I honestly thought the difference in reliability was just a littley, I would would have bought an E92 M3. Toyota's problems with their gas pedal was in the headlines months ago but guess what, NASA's findings has disproven that theory and have stated that human error/deliberate misrepresentation was the culprit. Of course that information did not hang around in the headlines as it is not bad news.
@Autoshopwing I doesn't matter what you thing only the reality matters.I don't think that when someone buys an expensive sports car looks at the reliability of the car.
You can stay and think that german cars are not reliable while they sell much more cars abroad than US for example.Germany is almost out of the economical crisis in majority thank to the auto industry the same auto industry that was and it's in decline in US.
Consumer reports is what I consider reality together with the opinion of my buddy who worked in a BMW dealership. Why experience it when the actual owners report that they break down more than average. Well I do look at realiability when I buy a sports cars so your opinion is exactly what it is. An opinion.
@Autoshopwing that's strange I have a 11 years old vw and rides perfectly I also have a lot of friends and neighbors with german cars and nobody complained about liability.I don't say that german car are extremely reliable but I think is to much to say they are unreliable. You said you look at the liability of an expensive car but are you sure a 40 30 or 20 year old guy will think like you.
Consider yourself lucky with your VW. My buddy who currenlty works in a VW dealership has a saying when commenting about the VW's that get returned for warranty repair "Assembled by drunk Germans". As far as how I decided when I bought my ISF to each his own. I could care less how others decide. When you can and will be buying an expensive sports car, you decide for yourself. In the meantime you are just theorizing and speculating.
In that case the E46 is in minor leagues. This discussion is about the big leagues. Earn some more money before you call me a sucker for buying an IS-F. LOL
You talking about selling hotdogs so I think it's you dream work, maybe you should try? Leave the school, leave your home and go sell some hotdogs - at last you will be useful.
LOL. Are you talking about yourself, going to school and living at home?
You need to sell hotdogs so you maybe you can buy an E92 10 years from now. GTFO of this thread. You pose as an expert and you don;t even have any of these cars. LOL. You're a what is called a want to be.
@Autoshopwing I get where you're coming from, but I'm not sure I agree with that. Those who buy M3s generally have a lot of respect for them, and take very good care of them. I'm not trying to say IS-F owners don't care about their cars, but I believe it would be a lot closer than you're making it out to be, expecially considering the number of E30 M3s around. Also, considering this is supposedly the last N/A M3, i think we'll see many of these on the roads for a long time.
No need to agree with me on Toyota/Lexus reliability vs BMW. It is what I believe based on the info I have derived from people I trust when it comes to cars, namely a friend who worked in a BMW dealership, mechanics I know, and people I know who have owned BMW's. Now this does not mean that the M3 is not a great performance car because it is. I give them an A for looks and performance but not for reliability.
@Autoshopwing I agree that a Toyota will be more reliable than a BMW if both have the same maintainance/owner care. However, I believe BMW Ms to be cared for much better than standard BMWs, so I believe this will increase their reliability greatly. I still don't think they will be as reliable as a standard Toyota, but I do believe they will be close if respect and maintainance is given to the vehicle, rather than some kid thrashing and abusing it without any services.
In 20 years there will be a lot more IS-F's actually running while most 20 year old M3's will only be a classic memory because most of them won't be running anymore.
@Autoshopwing hahahahaha thats the only reason u have for the is-f to be better than the m3. dude i have a bimmer, its brand new, i had no problems and will not because everything is completely covered. bimmer is way better than the lexus in my opinion because lexus is japanese and the company has no history, no taste, nothing thats realy a real trademark except the L and at the end of the day, ITS STILL JUST A LEXUS. what else are u goin to use for an excuse now? the lexus uses less gas? hahaha
Your comments confirm to me you're a fanboi which is very ordinary. You mention you have a Bimmer probably not an M3 because you did not say so and probably leased too which would be the halfway smart way to own one so you can turn it in before the warranty runs out. Anyway enjoy it while it last because the fact is the Lexus is superior in quality and reliabity to your Bimmer regardless of what you think, feel, or dream. Enjoy your future trips to the dealership for repairs. LOL!
@johngoh1982 The Toyota Altezza is the Lexus IS dumbo, it was originally called the Altezza because Lexus was just introduced and no one has heard of it, they renamed it to Lexus IS when it got more publicity. The IS-F isn't as good as the M3 on the track but that doesn't mean it's a shit car, when buying one of these 3 it all depends on what you're looking for.
@johngoh1982 Lol umad? Lexus quality crushes your pitiful german cars. Have fun dealing with endless engine problems. Oh BTW The ISF is in it's SECOND generation and it's already considered an opponent to the M3. How do you justify Lexus trumping bmw in an are its got years of experience in right out of the gate? You don't, you suck, shut up.
@iamscoutstfu My Cousin Has a 2008 E92 M3 with 48,380 Miles last time i checked . And no engine , transmission or any other major problem in the car . BMW won the engine of the year award 6 times . those engines were all used in the 3 series and M3. lol UmadBRO?
@nukeonator Not even slightly. wtf is 48,000 miles? Go carts run that without breaking down dumbass. My lexus is going to run well past 148,000 miles and my maintenence is going to be half what your dumbass cousins is. So no, notmadbro lol.
@iamscoutstfu most cars get major problems at 35k . and what lexus do you have cause its amazing how its going past 148,000. And performance is not what lexus should be doing they should be making regular luxury cars like they do although the LFA Supercar is Extremely amazing
Right. That's the thing no matter how close it could come but it can not really be on par, no bothering to mention surpassing. And that's how it follows but not how it creates.
The breaks and the tires just work so well in the m3 comparepared to the c63 amg you just lose control of that to easily you cant allways really on the c63 amg s brakes it doesnt take corners as well as the smoother more agile m3.
These cars are going to lose, the narrator is powered by McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, you name it. But I agee, M3 is the most fun to drive because you can opt for the manual transmission and has a hand brake, ideal for drifting.
One thing not taken into account is that the BMW's power curve is much better than the other too. Power management and balance are very important. I'm not 100% sure but I think the BMW is the cheapest too, if not I know for sure its cheaper than the Mercedes.
You are 100% wrong. Cnet says "The base price of the M3 is higher than the C63, and then BMW makes you pay extra for things that should be standard, such as electronic damping control.
the M3 is the most expensive but its the best car... so they can charge more! They can charge more and do and they still sell.. so not a bad idea. The C63 is the best value - but what id do is buy a E60 M5 lol.
sorry to say but it you who is 100% wrong, I don't know where you're from but the MSRP for the c63 is $56,000 and the m3's MSRP is $54,000, but when where talking these prices I'm sure 2k is meaningless. Also I want to point out EDC should be an option because most people don't know what it means or what it does and they'd probably never use it, so why drive the price of the car up. Also BMW does a good job including almost every possible option into there M cars.
Uh, I guess you're right - it depends on whether you're talking about the M3 SEDAN or COUPE - here's what's on the BMW website. Next time I'll do better research 1st before posting:
Yeah I didn't mean to sound angry, but let it be said even though I'm a BMW driver and a long time fan I really do like the c63. The c63 is like a hammer and the m3 is like an exacto Knife, both are great cars. In a perfect world I'd have both, hopefully in a few years I can have the pleasure of owning one.
I loooved that video! one of the best one's I've seen in a long time on yotube! I can't wait to show it to all my friends, there gonna love it as much as I did.
Sorry, try adding the word "problem" to the search.
My wife's 2002 CLK started to rust around rear arches, boot lock and drivers door. All repaired under warranty but I can't see the rot not returning with in a few years.
Its seems fairly common fault over a few years of manufacture, not sure what the new Mercs are like.
Mercs made between 2000 and 2006 had terrible quality. I don't what caused it be it wasn't normal. It was sort of an experiment for the company, like how low can they get the production costs, I think.
That does make sense, I had heard they decided their cars were "over engineered" so reduced the quality. We had problems with memory seats, dash display, alloy wheels corroding, Battery and alternator fault-that cost £770- Ball joints done at 50k miles, folding mirror fault, Merc put two holes in the sills with the ramp when they serviced it, tried to charge me £1000 for new catalytic converter when only the bracket was broken.
The list does go on. Also, the most uncomfortable car we have ever owned with a numb bum in under two hours driving. If you have a Merc sspope I wish you well with it. Cheers.
I'm going to buy a C-class soon and I'm not afraid because my friend's father owns a service for luxury brands and he says the quality is coming back. It may take a couple more years until the quality is where it was long time ago(as long as the company wants to get there) but I think they sell decent cars these days as the improvments are already obvious. Perhaps they wanted to learn where they can afford to cut the costs and where not.
Mercedes cut its cost on quality and reliability.. Mercedes used to be the best and more reliable car ever. Mercedes has now just resumed its spending for reliability.
I hope your right LettegusZR1, still, it seems a raw deal for all the muppets like me that paid a high price for a supposedly quality vehicle only to find out that it wasn't. Certainly would never buy another Merc now. Not that Merc will be bothered.
This is test is lame, nothing like Top Gear or 5th Gear.
just a comparing on track?
the weakest torque?weird that the m3 still beats the c63 from 60-120km/h and not to talk about the high speeds...but i give it 5 stars because of the M3,not because this test was great
So maintenance is covered on my M3 for four yrs as part of the cost of the car.

UltraFighter18 1 year ago
@UltraFighter18
Consumer reports is what I consider reality together with the opinion of my buddy who worked in a BMW dealership. Why experience it when the actual owners report that they break down more than average. Well I do look at realiability when I buy a sports cars so your opinion is exactly what it is. An opinion.
Autoshopwing 1 year ago
@Autoshopwing that's strange I have a 11 years old vw and rides perfectly I also have a lot of friends and neighbors with german cars and nobody complained about liability.I don't say that german car are extremely reliable but I think is to much to say they are unreliable. You said you look at the liability of an expensive car but are you sure a 40 30 or 20 year old guy will think like you.
UltraFighter18 1 year ago
@UltraFighter18

You need to sell hotdogs so you maybe you can buy an E92 10 years from now. GTFO of this thread. You pose as an expert and you don;t even have any of these cars. LOL. You're a what is called a want to be.

@Autoshopwing ...Europe is Ford and that is made buy europeans in Europe.
How many genuine american cars are sold in Europe or in the world as a matter of fact fewer than german that is for sure.
UltraFighter18 1 year ago
@Autoshopwing I get where you're coming from, but I'm not sure I agree with that. Those who buy M3s generally have a lot of respect for them, and take very good care of them. I'm not trying to say IS-F owners don't care about their cars, but I believe it would be a lot closer than you're making it out to be, expecially considering the number of E30 M3s around. Also, considering this is supposedly the last N/A M3, i think we'll see many of these on the roads for a long time.
200208195 3 weeks ago
@200208195
Autoshopwing 3 weeks ago
@Autoshopwing I agree that a Toyota will be more reliable than a BMW if both have the same maintainance/owner care. However, I believe BMW Ms to be cared for much better than standard BMWs, so I believe this will increase their reliability greatly. I still don't think they will be as reliable as a standard Toyota, but I do believe they will be close if respect and maintainance is given to the vehicle, rather than some kid thrashing and abusing it without any services.
200208195 3 weeks ago
@johngoh1982
In 20 years there will be a lot more IS-F's actually running while most 20 year old M3's will only be a classic memory because most of them won't be running anymore.
Autoshopwing 1 year ago
@Autoshopwing hahahahaha thats the only reason u have for the is-f to be better than the m3. dude i have a bimmer, its brand new, i had no problems and will not because everything is completely covered. bimmer is way better than the lexus in my opinion because lexus is japanese and the company has no history, no taste, nothing thats realy a real trademark except the L and at the end of the day, ITS STILL JUST A LEXUS. what else are u goin to use for an excuse now? the lexus uses less gas? hahaha
TheDJDESI 1 year ago
@TheDJDESI
LOL!
Autoshopwing 1 year ago
@johngoh1982 The Toyota Altezza is the Lexus IS dumbo, it was originally called the Altezza because Lexus was just introduced and no one has heard of it, they renamed it to Lexus IS when it got more publicity. The IS-F isn't as good as the M3 on the track but that doesn't mean it's a shit car, when buying one of these 3 it all depends on what you're looking for.
Sheer power and looks for the C63 AMG
Top notch reliability and luxury for the IS-F
Unbeatable lap times and handling with the M3
AdmiralTaran 1 year ago
@johngoh1982 Lol umad? Lexus quality crushes your pitiful german cars. Have fun dealing with endless engine problems. Oh BTW The ISF is in it's SECOND generation and it's already considered an opponent to the M3. How do you justify Lexus trumping bmw in an are its got years of experience in right out of the gate? You don't, you suck, shut up.
iamscoutstfu 3 months ago
@iamscoutstfu My Cousin Has a 2008 E92 M3 with 48,380 Miles last time i checked . And no engine , transmission or any other major problem in the car . BMW won the engine of the year award 6 times . those engines were all used in the 3 series and M3. lol UmadBRO?
nukeonator 3 months ago
@nukeonator Not even slightly. wtf is 48,000 miles? Go carts run that without breaking down dumbass. My lexus is going to run well past 148,000 miles and my maintenence is going to be half what your dumbass cousins is. So no, notmadbro lol.
iamscoutstfu 3 months ago
@iamscoutstfu most cars get major problems at 35k . and what lexus do you have cause its amazing how its going past 148,000. And performance is not what lexus should be doing they should be making regular luxury cars like they do although the LFA Supercar is Extremely amazing
nukeonator 3 months ago
Right. That's the thing no matter how close it could come but it can not really be on par, no bothering to mention surpassing. And that's how it follows but not how it creates.

read the long discussion down there...you´re right, merc cut costs, merely to find out, how low quality they could still have selling...idiotic!
audi and bmw have reached the same quality standard that merc had in the 90s (before the cuts) and will certainly maintain it...buy those.
customer satisfaction survey speak for themselves: subaru, porsche, bmw, audi, ford and then NOTHING for quite a long time^^

Arai4lpinestars 2 years ago
One thing not taken into account is that the BMW's power curve is much better than the other too. Power management and balance are very important. I'm not 100% sure but I think the BMW is the cheapest too, if not I know for sure its cheaper than the Mercedes.
m19921992 3 years ago
You are 100% wrong. Cnet says "The base price of the M3 is higher than the C63, and then BMW makes you pay extra for things that should be standard, such as electronic damping control.
hotguk 3 years ago
the M3 is the most expensive but its the best car... so they can charge more! They can charge more and do and they still sell.. so not a bad idea. The C63 is the best value - but what id do is buy a E60 M5 lol.
GarethPNZ 3 years ago
sorry to say but it you who is 100% wrong, I don't know where you're from but the MSRP for the c63 is $56,000 and the m3's MSRP is $54,000, but when where talking these prices I'm sure 2k is meaningless. Also I want to point out EDC should be an option because most people don't know what it means or what it does and they'd probably never use it, so why drive the price of the car up. Also BMW does a good job including almost every possible option into there M cars.
m19921992 3 years ago
Uh, I guess you're right - it depends on whether you're talking about the M3 SEDAN or COUPE - here's what's on the BMW website. Next time I'll do better research 1st before posting:
M3 Sedan:
Starting at $54,850 MSRP
M3 Coupe:
Starting at $57,850 MSRP
M3 Convertible:
Starting at $66,500 MSRP
hotguk 3 years ago
Yeah I didn't mean to sound angry, but let it be said even though I'm a BMW driver and a long time fan I really do like the c63. The c63 is like a hammer and the m3 is like an exacto Knife, both are great cars. In a perfect world I'd have both, hopefully in a few years I can have the pleasure of owning one.

Google the words "Mercedes" and "Corrosion"
You'll be suprised.
madeupname37 3 years ago
All I got was "Mercedes 30-year anti-corrosion warranty"
sspope 3 years ago
Sorry, try adding the word "problem" to the search.
My wife's 2002 CLK started to rust around rear arches, boot lock and drivers door. All repaired under warranty but I can't see the rot not returning with in a few years.
Its seems fairly common fault over a few years of manufacture, not sure what the new Mercs are like.
madeupname37 2 years ago
Mercs made between 2000 and 2006 had terrible quality. I don't what caused it be it wasn't normal. It was sort of an experiment for the company, like how low can they get the production costs, I think.
sspope 2 years ago
That does make sense, I had heard they decided their cars were "over engineered" so reduced the quality. We had problems with memory seats, dash display, alloy wheels corroding, Battery and alternator fault-that cost £770- Ball joints done at 50k miles, folding mirror fault, Merc put two holes in the sills with the ramp when they serviced it, tried to charge me £1000 for new catalytic converter when only the bracket was broken.
madeupname37 2 years ago
The list does go on. Also, the most uncomfortable car we have ever owned with a numb bum in under two hours driving. If you have a Merc sspope I wish you well with it. Cheers.
madeupname37 2 years ago
I'm going to buy a C-class soon and I'm not afraid because my friend's father owns a service for luxury brands and he says the quality is coming back. It may take a couple more years until the quality is where it was long time ago(as long as the company wants to get there) but I think they sell decent cars these days as the improvments are already obvious. Perhaps they wanted to learn where they can afford to cut the costs and where not.
sspope 2 years ago
I like the 3 litre diesel. It manages to be quite a monster while being economical and the C-class is quite well priced.
But I'm not fully decided yet. I also like the new Citroen C5.
sspope 2 years ago
Mercedes cut its cost on quality and reliability.. Mercedes used to be the best and more reliable car ever. Mercedes has now just resumed its spending for reliability.
LettegusZR1 2 years ago
I hope your right LettegusZR1, still, it seems a raw deal for all the muppets like me that paid a high price for a supposedly quality vehicle only to find out that it wasn't. Certainly would never buy another Merc now. Not that Merc will be bothered.

This is test is lame, nothing like Top Gear or 5th Gear.

I love the M3's engine. The V8 in the e92 M3 is actually lighter and more powerful than the V6 in the e46 M3.
Plus this car is the only car with a 6 speed manual.
I can't see why anyone would choose the Lexus or the Merc over the M3.
