  • Man, Odessa had a small team

  • wow, 180 lb tackle...

  • @Jose083192 miles was hurt almost his whole senior year

  • Why us comer 45? Wasn't that boobies number?

  • @Jose083192 - Boobie was changed to #45 for the movie, as the director decided to use footage from the 2003 Permian team instead of trying to film each and every football scene (which would've been very costly). On the 2003 team, the fullback wore #45. In reality, Boobie wore #35, Comer did indeed wear #45.

  • damn those kids were small

  • @MrSTFU80 agree, i mean, they say that the kids are small in the movie (even though their actors are big) but that they were gonna be this small, i didn't thought that.

But u gotta keep in mind that they didn't use anabolic in that time like the most of they do now (i mean who really think Tebow is completely clean?)

  • these guys seem really small

  • @reesnipee still would have kicked the shit out of you

  • I remember James miles he could have gone pro easily

  • Texasboi27 - I was at that game. The worst officiated game I've ever seen (no joke) ... except for the next year when the officiating was just as bad toward Permian. If I had been a Marshall fan I would have been embarrassed just as I was the next year as a Permian fan. (and I've never been one to blame the officials)... this was just plain and simple bad (probably crooked) officiating (both games)

  • just finished watchin tha movie itz hot but the first team they played marshall iz my high school and they did not win but james miles did get hurt

  • @TheTexasboi27 Believe it or not, in real life, Marshall DID beat Permian. The game was played in Marshall on a Saturday afternoon, not a Friday in Odessa. Permian flew to East Texas to play the game. Marshall won 13-12. They had a RB named Odell Beckham who was REALLY good. They ended up losing to Carter 22-18 in the playoffs. Anyway. I went to Longview. That's how I know this haha. I know all about East Texas football and the history.

  • Chris comer ran tha ball like he was scary! He was still good tho! Jus think he needed to stop worrying about gettin hit. Seem like everytime he ran tha ball. He wanted to fall.

  • Jerrod McDougal never got the respect he deserved. if you read the book you know what im talking about

  • Wow these guys look scarily alike to their actors

  • Anyone who plays football or watches it knows that it is much more exciting and dramatic than how Hollywood tries to picture it. The movie had the potential to be the greatest sports movie of all time, but instead went for the Hollywood dramatics. Such a shame. Maybe someday someone will make a real football movie.

  • BILLINGSLEY!!!!!PARTY AT TAYLOR'S BE THERE!!!!!BILLINGSLEY!!!!!!!

  • @Tscribbles101 WERE GONNA GET WASTED!!!!

  • @Tscribbles101 "isnt that guy like 35" lol

  • It's amazing.

  • I just can't stop but awe at the fact the Panther team holding hands in the huttle

  • i wonder who would win nowadays?

a team like the '88 panthers or this year's long beach poly from california

  • i played that year number 66 and woooow that was the best team and i remember boobie hurt his leg man he was in some pain but he diddnt stop just couldnt stop

  • Haha, they still called wide outs, split ends. It's crazy how much just the terminology changes, much less the actual formations and techniques.

  • well of course the movie is going to take some liberties, its hollywood after all...

  • gary gaines looks like such a hick haha

  • dang coach gaines looks so different now

  • @goten1214 do you have the other starters? (permian d, midland lee o/d) thanks

  • @hottiecne37 I know! That disappointed me! I wanted to see all of the guys that were focused on in the book, but sadly he was mentioned but not pictured. He was a key player, too, and very smart.

  • @goten1214 is the book any good? i was thinking about getting it

  • Comment removed

  • damn . didnt know they were that small of a team

  • FUN FACT! Boobie Miles quit the football team...and did NOT return like he did in the movie...In the movie he goes with them to the state game...In actuality he listened to the game on the radio

  • @Deathsreunion2580 FACT.. they didnt go to the state championship.. this was the semi finals. also, the MAIN character in the book is not even mentioned at all in the movie, Jerrod McDougal offensive lineman

  • @sedro32 If there was one main character, it was McDougall, although he followed about 6... And this game was actually a district ballgame. The Carter game (also on youtube, as you've commented on), was the semis.

  • @sedro32 Ya i worded it wrong...I ment to say he listened to the SEMI-FINAL game on the radio

  • @sedro32 ik the book was reely good the movie was pretty good for a movie but as comparison too the book the movie mixed up facts and left out alot of important parts ,just to name a few boobie number was 35 he hurt is leg in a scrimmage not a game he played fullback not tail back billingley played tail back billingsley was the tailback(he was also much better then they portrayed him in the book) they only made it to the semi finals and boobie played much more then one game after he got hurt.

  • i saw the movie and then looked at stuff like this after and the movie changed alot of stuff around they shouldve made the movie just like it was

  • @d3zii1 last I heard he played for the Vikings for a little bit.

  • Small Line...

  • @biohazardbob14 Nice one, dipshit. You're blocked from posting comments on my videos.Kill yourself.

  • Wait, But Wasnt Boobie #45 Too?

  • @raider8sox Nope. He was 35. Don't always believe what Hollywood tells you.

  • @goten1214 i thought odessa won 53 21

  • @masonberg Nope.

  • @goten1214 stfu with you saying, "don't believe what Hollywood tells you." It's a movie you dipshit so shut the fuck up and be happy they even made Friday Night Lights a movie.

  • @nipa2011 Look you fucking moron. He asked if Boobie was #45 and I told him he wasn't. Kill yourself you sorry piece of shit. You're blocked from commenting on my videos. Nice work!

  • Gay bro haha

  • @goten1214 do you have have permians defenes and midland o and d?

  • Comment removed

  • do you have the permian vs dallas carter state game? i cant find it

  • @cracknutz23 It wasn't the state game. It was the semifinals. Do some research and don't believe everything Hollywood tells you. And yes, I do have that game. I put highlights up.

  • @goten1214 hey man im not saying that wasn't a stupid question but you didn't have to be so mean in the comment back. i mean common he didn't know obviously

  • @biohazardbob14 Cry more and feel free to post on other videos if you don't like it.

  • @goten1214 you just need to put in the description "Boobie Miles was #35 and Comer was #45" so its clear for everyone whos asking

  • okay question if Comer was 45 then why in the movie is boobie 45 and comer 42

  • @marty34156 Ask Hollywood.

  • @marty34156 I remember they used some actual footage of Comer in the movie, but acted as if it was Boobie Miles running. I wonder if that played a part in why they had Boobie wearing 45.

  • @DarthMakaveliSithMC

you might be right cuz in the beginning they show coach gaines (billy bob thorton) watching film from the year before and this is right before camp and is pre boobie knee explosion

  • Chris Comar was pretty good.

What ever happen to him>? were did he end up going to college?

  • haha im bigger than there whole offense they looked scarier in the movie

  • Oh, I wish I was in the land of Dixie! GO REBS!!!

  • "The book is not entirely true about many things, and the movie further distorts things. This game DID force a 3-way tie in district which required a coin toss to determine playoff contenders."

That's what Bissinger reported in the book. What in the book was "entirely true?" And... thanks for the video.

  • wait i thought boobie miles was 45 and chris comer was like 42 or something??

  • @MultiKeepitreal - In real life, Boobie was 35 and Comer was 45. In the movie, Peter Berg mixed in real footage of the 2003 team in order not to have to film each and every football scene... on the '03 team, #45 was the starting tailback, therefore Berg changed Boobie's number to 45 for the flick.

  • jeeez they were small!!! they played with heart though. GO MOJO

  • Wow. Didn't know it was here. Thanks for posting.

    Rayburn #76 Midland Lee

  • This just show that when a team knows how to play football it doesnt matter your size. When I saw everyones stats at the beginning of the video I was astonished. Then when I watched the clips I was stunned at how well they ran plays for a high school team. So smooth and almost everyone was picking up their assingment . Every play run soundly.

  • thought in the movie Miles was #45 and Comer was#42?

  • @Mrzavalasinaloa The movie ain't exactly accurate

  • This is mint

  • i was an 8 year old little boy with my stepdad and classmate bud at this game, wearing my lee rebel sweater and lee sweat pants...and i remember going crazy when lee upset permian that west texas desert night. we were a 21 point underdog in this game. late in the 4th permian was screaming MOJO! and us lee rebels were screaming back from our side REBELS!!! amazing game and amazing times, love it and go rebs!

  • dude this is sooo cool. I canrt beliebe im watching the real Billingley, Winchell and Comer.!!!

  • sum small dudes for 5A texas football

  • @PowhatanNDNZ12 The jerseys were huge back then.

  • permian sucks midland rock cause im from id town

  • i hate permian they think they are so cool

  • THIS...is one hell of a video. awesome.

  • @goYankees19 Thanks!

  • can you put up the 1989 permian vs. aldine state championship game....please

  • @tmacyaobattier I'll try. I have it.

  • @goten1214 you do! dude please put it up!

  • question did billingsly really fumble alot lol

  • @trackstarallday He did in a preseason scrimmage, not during the season.

  • is this the state game? and if it isn't didn't they play this team in state?

  • @XxGREEN11xX Permian didn't play in State. They played Dallas Carter in the semifinals and lost. Carter won the next week, and won state.

  • oh. well than then a bunch of the movie is made up? also that happened 2 my brothers this year in Indiana. lost to Bishop Luers and then they won state

  • no this was the district final...permain never made it to the finals they played carter in the semi finals and carter went to win state.....

  • Great video -- please keep 'em coming!

  • wheres boobie lol. was this after he injured hisleg>??

  • He was on the sideline on the bench because he wasn't as good as Comer.

  • he was much better than Comer. He hurt his knee which made him worse. Boobie had offers from USC. Bama and Miami. before he hurt his knee. Comer went where?? Abilene Christian? lol yea Comer's better

  • @madvillain6184 He didn't have offers from any of those schools; he had heard interest from them. He didn't receive any full rides at all. His grades held him back (as they did Comer). Boobie, even after recovering from injury, went to Ranger and still was terrible (not to mention unable to maintain grades and had to drop out).

  • @goten1214 Boobie miles.. he can spin left he can spin right it dont make no difference. he can block, tackle, score the touchdowns AND he can pass. What does comer do? he runs out of bounds cuz he doesnt have blockers!

  • @DARIANxMASSACRE - He's standing on the sideline. Did not play this game, despite the movie's portrayal of him doing so. He "quit" after this game.

  • GO MOJO

  • thank you so much for posting the video!

  • Damn. Hahaha. I really didn't think they were that small. They're were good team though obviously.

  • was boobie not # 45 like in the movie?

  • No. Boobie was #35. Comer was #45.

  • Wheres Preacher man!!??

  • He played D dude

  • I know but hes the coolest

  • @ScreamoMarius - He's #62 in this video. Playing middle linebacker.

  • man if u have more post it this is amazing

  • is chavez in this?

  • these kids where small

  • wheres boobie

  • On the bench after his injury. He quit the team after this game.

  • oh that sucks

  • nah he almost did during this game, he quite later on in the season

  • Comment removed

  • don billingsley in the movie looked more like 6'3 rather than 5'7, lol

  • i live in midland

  • whup dee do

  • why does Permian's QB's wear numbers in the twenties? is that a tradition or somethin

  • Basically, in the Wing T, the QB was numbered a low 20 number to help keep the backs organized or something to help with naming/calling plays. And then it became a tradition.

  • i noticed that too! i think it started with mike winchell. i could be wrong though. but i think its kinda stupid that they do that

  • Nah, I know that Jerry Hix was #20 in 1980, so it goes way back. And it's not stupid; it's a neat little tradition.

  • holy shit this is just like the movie

  • they were little

  • is there a way to obtain a copy of the game? i dont have anything to trade though :(

  • thats crazy how small teams wer then. my hs team is like tackle 6'2 270 guard 6' 220 center 5'10 260 guard 6'3 245 tackle 6'5 250 TE 6'2 235 so much different

  • yeah mine is too. LT is 6'0 290 G 5'11 270 C 6'1 275 G 6'3 290 RT 6'1 320. our line is bigger than navys. crazy small these guys. winchells 160? oh man. our 5'2 kick returner is 165 and hes the smallest on the team

  • your team is fat

  • indeed we are. fat and black

  • @gjuarezjr

    My team's starting O-line was

    Center (and D-tackle)- 6'0 280 lbs

    Right Guard- 6'1, 225 lbs

    Left Guard- 6'2- 245 lbs

    Left Tackle- 6'5, 275 lbs

Right Tackle (and Left Defensive End)- 6'2, 220 lbs

Tight End (and Middle Linebacker)- 6'2, 280 lbs

  • loyd hill was a beast

  • damn teams were much smaller back then

  • Because back then people played football for their school and because they loved it and would remeber it for the rest of their life, now people play it without enjoying it and grind it day in day out to try and get to the pro's to make millions.

  • and how does this affect a teams size...?

  • Weill if you read it properly i already apoligised for replying to the wrong comment, dick.

  • you're right

  • Wrong person to reply to sorry

  • I go to lee permians good but lee leads the series :]

  • goten, do you have the starters for Lee and the Permian D?

  • Just want to post stats on Boobie from 1988 (the few games he played in)

    SEASON: 27 car, 109 yrds, 4.0 ypc, 2 TD

1st game: vs. Abilene, week 6

    10 car, 46 yrds, 4.6 ypc, 0 TD

2nd game: vs. Dallas Jesuit, week 7

    5 car, 14 yrds, 2.8 ypc, 0 TD

3rd game: at Abilene Cooper, week 8

12 car (team high), 49 yrds, 4.1 ypc, 2 rushTD (team high)

  • his stats really werent that good

  • I am from Odessa, so you have to understand Mojo football. It was ALWAYS this way, being smaller and underweight. The thing you must understand is that Mojo plays 4 QUARTERS, and they were ALWAYS in better shape than the other team and they NEVER stopped and NEVER gave up.They were superbly coached, and most did not go on to play in college. This was the pinnacle of most guys careers. Thats Permian football in the nutshell.

  • On my team, which is one of the best in 3a (texas), I am the only lineman over 200 pounds. our center is 155, lg 180, rg 185, rt 250, lt 190

  • holly shit ure center is 155 in high school im in 7 grade and im 160 but im not fat i run a 4.8 and i lift almost every day

  • 4.8 in 7th grade damn thats impressive. Our 155 lb. center is a junior he runs a 4.68 you would think he's a waste being on the line but he's one of the best blockers I've seen. Keep it up though dude you sure have the speed to be good and keep lifting thats what helped me with my sub-par speed.

  • how much do u bench im 155 running back in jv football buh im a 9th grader

  • i dont like to do very heavy lifting but the most ive tried recently was i think around 145 150 but i normaly just do around 80 with a lot of reps

  • oh i see yeah in practice lifting with my team i only bench 115 and do 15, in 4 sets.

  • I love the fact that the center/guard is 6'2" 203. I play guard and im 6'5" 310 haha. This is pretty cool though

  • thanks i had always wondered what it was like to watch MoJo

  • good god im the 2nd smallest lineman on my team and im bigger then all of those guys

  • maybe cause that was in 1988

  • wow these guys really were small. in the movie it said they were small but wow. i live in colorado and play on basically the worst team in 5A and i still think the smallest lineman on our team is pushing 215, and the average is i guess around 245. i guess it was different times back then and they probably didn't focus on the weight room as much as just playing some football.

  • Everybody knows Comer was better than Boobie after the injury but are you saying he was better than pre-injury Boobie? No way. Gary Gaines would tell you himself.

  • So Gary Gaines opinion is an end-all correct word on talent? The injury wasn't anything serious and Miles recovered completely. Comer was still better; it's just that nobody knew because he hadn't had a chance to show it.

  • is there any real videos of boobie?

  • He played some in 1987 but was nothing absolutely spectacular. He got hurt in a scrimmage, so there was no film of him in 1988 other than maybe against Abilene where he ran like 12 times for 16 yards. He IS on the sidelines in this game and they show his face a few times during the full-length game. But he quit after this game.

  • was he really that good as in... as he as good as how the movie described him? was he really the TICKET of the team?

  • No. Comer was better. Boobie recovered in real life and came back to play, but he didn't do well at all and Comer kept going strong.

  • Oh ok did u personally know any of the players? so im just fascinated. lol

  • yea the movie was partially true...permian lost in the playoffs to d.c. but it wasnt state...d.c. played judson high for the state that year.

  • It was Converse Judson and technically Permian won the game 1-0 vs Carter.

  • Who was the better high school quarterback Mike Winchell or Stoney Case?

  • Stormy Case LOL

  • really? i know he made the NFL but why didn't he start over Winchell

  • Stormy was Stoney's little brother. Stoney didn't start over Winchell because he was younger and Winchell got the job done. He always threw some great blocks which is the QBs main job in the Wing T, not passing.

  • this is so nice, mike winchell in the movie looks just like this guy haha...

well was the whole movie true now? so they lost vs the dalls cowboys? omg so incredible that this is actually a true story, so fantastic experience!

  • this is sickk

  • wow comer in the movie culdnt do shit agaisnt lee. but he had a couple td in this game

  • wow the actor in the movie looks a lot like the guy in real life

  • 3:55 - 3:58 was a nice play!

  • wow, they really were small haha. i know players were smaller back then but not that small. and i also know that they were a small team, but under 200 pound linemen? damn

and thanks for posting this video!

  • dude we ran wing T in high school with a 145 lb right gaurd and he was a mean mean SOB and i guarentee you he got the job done

  • Actually Boobie's real number was 35. I don't know why they gave him 45 in the movie... And Mike Winchell is small! Only 6'0 and 160lbs!!

  • This is great!!!! thanks for putting uo

  • Sure thing!

  • don billingsley was fast

  • i gues in tex hs football is everything. where i live in calif i have 7 or 8 high school's near where i live.all spread out within 10 miles of each other.

  • I thought boobie miles was #45 not chris colmer

  • Then maybe you should educate yourself by reading a book and not watching the movie.

  • I keep hearing people defend Odessa saying that the book totally got it wrong, but as someone who went to high school in a very heated Texas 5A football-centric district, nothing I've read in it seems terribly far-fetched (especially since our next door neighbor city I had experience with in the HS years is one of the more recent Texas powerhouses). I've always wondered what is supposedly *not* so accurate in the book - specifics, please?

  • Bissinger's publisher actually rejected it the first time around because it wasn't interesting and controversial enough. I doubt everyone was as racist as he makes them sound. I'm sure there were some people; every town has them. But he made it sound like it was the norm there. And he made it sound like all the money went to football, but it was money that the athletic program raised via ticket sales, merchandise, etc. They weren't taking money from teachers; it was money they had earned.
