I really, really love this scene. It's so sensitive... This movie is amazing...I'ts my favorite all time! And Mr. Darcy...omg, he is perfect! Handsome, romantic, lovely...and he dares to say what he's feels like. Where do you find a man who dares to say that nowadays?
I love it, when it seems like he wants to kiss her. I was totally freaking out!! I was like; come on kiss her!! But.. he pulled back =P. But the chemistry in this movie is really perfect!! <3
aww shes so in love with him if only he would see it. Sometimes we make too many ASSumptions about others an discover the truth later. Im glad they eventually realize they were wrong an forgive an love eachother:))
oh GOD i love when right before he says "madame, i am sorry for taking up so much of your time , and he stares at her lips , and then she looks right at him...HOLY MOLY they should kiss right there <3
you see his eyes flicker to her lips, just before she sort of moves her head slightly towards him.
my god, my heart was gonna burst from suspense!
and they didn't kiss!
but it was still perfect... even if i was really peeved with Lizzy for rejecting him. it wouldn't have been right if they have gotten together at that point in the story.
Darcy: "could you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your circumstances
Lizzie: "and those are the words of a gentleman.."
Lizzie: "from the first moment i met you, your arrogance and conceit, your selfish disdain for the feeling of others made me realize that you were the last man in the world I could ever be prevailed upon to marry." WOW Kudos for Keira and Matthew!!!!!! Absolutely perfect! loove this part... it's like keira slapped darcy so hard!
"It was the lack of propriety shown by your Mother, your three younger sisters, even on occasion your Father"- SLAP!!!!
Love this movie (Even more than the book), love this scene, I recite it to myself when no one's watching, and sometimes when they are too...It's just all so passionate and quote-worthy.
perhaps even more than when I read the book 30 years ago (thanks to Matthew - I call him "mmmm..." - if you love Mr.Darcy, check out the Darcy trilogy written by Pamela Aidan (it's captivating!), and for Matthew, check out the darcylicious web site!
I may be heckled for this but...this version is WAY better than the BBC mini-series. The Darcys are neck and neck, but in every other matter, this production is greater, especially in its casting of Elizabeth and Jane.
Uhmmm...may anybody tell me where the 'please' part is? i can't seem to see it yet. A time frame of that exact moment would be appreciated...hehe... (^^,)smiles
If you watch it again---or play it on your tv loud---right before he looks like he is going to kiss her when he says forgive me----he whisper please---it is hard to hear because of the rain---but it is there and then you see his lips move to the word---it took me a while to catch it
I just love how, the entire time they're arguing, they're just moving closer and closer together, and then they're totally about to kiss at the end...
But then Darcy moves away... D:
Well, this Darcy is handsome enough, but my dear obsession, Colin Firth, still beats him by a long shot. ^^
How can she rejects this most gorgeous hansome man in the planet?I know...they have to stick to the script. I would have most probably fainted after his proposal anyway. Swoon!
I love this movie SO MUCH! The acting, the cinematography, the soundtrack. It's so beautiful and romantic. For me it's better than the mini-series in almost every way.
Everytime I watch it I notice something I haven't seen before. I could never get bored with it!
I want someone to be my Mr Darcy. I want someone to love me that much and be romantic and wonderful.
To answer my own question: The building here is "The Temple of Apollo". Apart of the Stourhead House landscape gardens, ca. 1745. A truly marvelous place.
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!! this is my favorite sence in the whole movie! every time i watch it i always play this sence over atleast once! LOVE it! so romantic! i love the part when mr darcy is about to kiss lizzie... thank you so much for posting this!!! :)
I read the book some 50 years ago and now I'm going to read it again. My first viewing of this version was just a few weeks ago. I was/am transfixed by it. This scene, as most have observed,is superb. In passing, I have wondered what is the function of the building they are at? A chapel? A place for chamber music?
someone (i dont know who exactly he was anymore) tells her that mr darcy was responsible for that mr bingley and lizzies siter jane didnt marry...so she was very upset
but later on she learns that darcy just wanted to protect his friend from a bad marriage and didnt want to do anything bad <333
I never really realized the COMPLETE intensity of this scene until I read the book and then watched it again. It's the best scene EV-ER!!!!!! And I love how Mr. Darcy walks away mad but calm at the same time!!!

no offense to the 1995 version but i think the 2005 version is much better and the way jane austen would have wanted it i mean the way matthew mcfayden is and the little details the way he touches her hand and helps her in the cariage and the way he follows her in the ball the way when he first enters the story and glances back and fourth
This scene just wouldn't have been as intense if the sun had been shining. Hoorah for the Great British Summer!(and yes, as I write this, it's July and pouring with rain)

Why is it that you love it so! I can't stand him, but his red head friend... now that is a good looking man. ;D

This comment has received too many negative votes show
This was soooo pointlessly melodramatic! Why does it have to rain and why do they to run?? This is 18th century England, not Scarlet and Rhett in Gone With the Wind.
