My native language is Algerian [one of the many dialects of Arabic] and understood many words spoken by those men. They actually sounded exactly like Algerian words. This is fascinating to me. One day, inchallah, I shall visit Cyprus and look for those people. Languages, cultures and traditions must be preserved at all costs. Marvelous video. Thank you very much for sharing this with us:)
Being ashamed of speaking your own language is the stupidest thing I have ever heard!!!! There are some Turkish Cypriots who are ashamed of speaking their dialect and I do not understand that!!! This is who I am and how I want to speak! In this sense, I am 100% behind of those MAronites who strive for the survival of their language!!! May there be peace in Cyprus so all communities can protect their culture and language...
I think these Maronites from Cyprus have three languages in their life, Greek, the official language of Cyprus, Aramaic through the Syriac language in the mass, and an archaic variety of colloquial Arabic, this is very interesting.
In the Mediterranean too, there is Malta island which have through Maltese another variety of arabic language, spoken as an official language co-official with English.

This is an interesting video, it seems lately, every day I learn that there is yet another almost forgotten language in the world.
