The Sparta, mississippi in this movie doesn`t excist though. Funny they did film in an Illionois town with the same name. It`s like filming a movie that takes place in a city with the name New York in Utah and film it in New York, New York..hahahaha
This was an epic movie..showing a redneck racist Mississippi Chief brilliantly portrayed by Rod Steiger, who goes from contempt to grudging respect of Tibbs and finally to caring for him. Amazing performances by Warren Oates and of course Sidney Poitier.
Anybody know how the hell they shoot that final scene 1:07 on the train?

Spent two days in Sparta in '07. The train depot was restored and is now an art museum with a large area devoted to the Oscar winning film.
