  • Dear Bottleneck John, it's been a long road to find this one! Incredible sound: rich and also subtle..which doesn't sound like it makes sense...until you hear it. I think someone has played that guitar a lot. The little delta rocket takes a style cue from the Leader..and I am sure Frank would appreciate such things. Sam Mitchell played one like this. I wsh you happy times playing!

  • @Glaeken1961

Thank you very much!! Yes, I agree, this guitar has resonated a lot of songs over the years! And even more in years to come!!

  • So now that you have it, what's next! ;o. Curious are any of the current production you have played here close in tone? Later Bertotti

  • @JohnBertotti

This is it, nothing's next I think.. This one sounds like nothing newly produced, built in "mojo" and all.. Love it!

  • @BottleneckJohn ow that is to bad, I was hoping one of the new models would have a similar tone.

    Funny little aside,

  • @JohnBertotti

Nah, that's nothing to worry about, old ones should have a more matured voice.. There's plenty of new Dobro's around that sounds similar and to some, even better!!!

  • @BottleneckJohn , My local mom and pop wanted to see my Grandpa's bugle. He got way back in the 30's, I think if not earlier! Anyway it shows it's age a bit, dents, rested on the bell to long etc. The horn guy put one of his mouth pieces on it and belted out a bit then everyone got quiet. He looks around and says," I have heard of it but never experienced until now". I asked what and he says, "Good Brass!"

Something in the compounds that we just can't or don't do now really makes a difference.

  • @JohnBertotti

He's got a point maybe, but I think it's age itself that makes wood and metal instruments sound different. Many hours of play kinda vibrates the atoms in the material together, haha. I read when some violin makers made their instruments they expected them to sounds their best after 40 years of use..!!

  • @BottleneckJohn yep I have seen that to. I do know there are some differences in the compunds also, leads and mercury and other elements deemed to dangerous now just aren't used any more. I know of some steel that way cured/quenched in mercury as part of the process. Crazy stuff. But age certainly has a very large role! Congrats on the new/old axe it is a beaut!

  • @JohnBertotti

    Thanks, bro!

  • Hi Johan, a real beauty of an instrument and a great sound, too! Look forward to seeing you play it up in Sverige in summer, as we return to Norrland in July. Enjoy....!

  • @Yeractualpatience

Welcome back then! Hope to see you somewhere again, it was in France last time.

Are you missing the mosquitoes!? ;-)

  • Several months ago I found one very much like this but it had several large holes in the body so I passed on it considering the price being asked. This is one of the nicest sounding resonator guitars I've ever heard. It's a real Beauty John! Congrats Man!

  • @thmpick Thanks for the comment!! I'm blown away too by this guitars tone and appearence, a dream come true! And now it'll be played a LOT! :-)

  • Sure sound great John and a really lovely old lady !

  • @jipes

    Thanks!

  • OMG! YOUR PLAYING IS SOO PERFECT I LOVE MY DOBRO I WISH I COULD MAKE IT SOUND THAT GOOD!!!

PS: Where did you find that dobro?!

  • @johnnydobroboy

    Thanks!!

Found it on eBay, I'm really happy I did..

  • Hi John,

Sounds lovely! what gauge strings are you using?

    Regards

    Chris

  • @slidefever

Hi Chris! Here the strings are 0.12 - 0.54, too light in fact but they came with the guitar. I will put 0.15 - 0.58's on real soon..

  • Oh...my. I...I need one of these >.> I think I have a crush on the dobro now. Awesome playing <3 <3 <3

  • @ZiddersRooFurry

Thank you very much for that great comment! Get a Dobro!!

  • What a fabulous sound! great playing as usual. What's a fiddle-edge construction? Pardon my ignorance

  • @clevblue

Thank you! If you look at the edges of the guitar there's a little rim, kinda like on a violin. It's because top, back and sides were folded together instead of soldered.. Hence the term fiddle-edge! :-)

  • That's a beauty!

  • @gorblimey61

    It is, thanks!

  • Sweet! Now you know Antiques Roadshow always says polishing old metal detracts from its value to collectors ... ;^) I'm just woofin' because you've inspired in me my first case of instrument envy in some time ...

  • @ukebob

Allright, then I'll be polishing this a lot!! I've looked for one of these for many years, finally I have one! I hope you find one too if that's your dream!!

  • i qm very glad you found this old s guitar, you deserve this you really do !!!!!!its a gem of a guitar and you do it justice justice achieved IMo

  • Where did you find this bad boy if it was in a box? Very cool geetar.

  • @wontacceptthis

    eBay did the trick!

  • That is TOO nice! Outstanding instrument! I'll bet your gonna have a LOT of fun with some serious "Drink yourself to death" blues... Oh yeah.
