The Rafale has got to be one of the most underrated fighters i've ever seen. Plane apparently gets a lot of criticism but imo looks like a brilliant fighter. Hoping it's chosen by India soon, just to give the company a boost.

Australia should have brought this figther, we had the Mirage for yrs. is was reliable & France let us manufacture them here which transferred technology & created jobs plus we r an island which could be cut off from our US supplier. The F35's we brought are dependent on overseas parts/supplies not a smart thing to do if China or Indonesia cuts our shipping off.

I like the look of Gripen but i doubt its performance maybe not at a technical point of weight even though it a light weight but more of a political point of view. Sweden is forbidden to export arms if the importing country is in a war, meaning that when you need the weaponry and spare part at most you won't able to get them.

Well it's French fighter way of conceiving refueling probe. I like it, it give it some cool look I think.
If it's fixed, it's because we found that for the kind of aircraft we do it's more efficient than a retractil probe. It's perfectly studied to have verry little aerodynamical impact, plus we win the weight of the mechanical retractation system. In the end it's more fuel efficient like this.
My friend, who was working on construction yard near some airport in France, told me that he and his friends used some binoculars, that use lasers for measuring distances and angles between buildings, to watch Rafale planes on take off, and planes deployed countermeasures when they pointed lasers at them!
Is that even possible???
PS. They did it twice and said that it was an accident, but after they did id for the third time, they were deported from France. :))

@Wii60 I think they might be IFF sensors, identification friend-foe. Mostly only fitted on lead fighter aircraft in the USAF. Out of a squad of 4 F-16's, only the flight lead would be equipped with the IFF sensors.
The F-22 is a fighter-bomber, the f-16 is a attack fighter, the F35 AFAIK an interceptor, and the F-18, I don't know. while the rafale is I think a pure fighter.
You're all wrong. The F-22 is a pure fighter which was given air-ground abilities for having a real use. The F-16 and F-18 are versatile fighters, the main difference is that the F-18 can operate from a carrier and is a two engined fighter. The Rafale has the same kind of abilites but in enchanced versions and better flight capabilities. The F35 is created with the same idea but will be released in 3 distincte versions, including a vertical take off version.

The J-10 is a carbon copy of the IAI Lavi. It's not even funny! It probably is a decent airframe, but I'd take the proven F-16 over the Chengdu J-10 (let alone the Gripen, Eurofighter, or Rafale). The 'Squall' would knock the Chengdu out before it even knew it was there.
The European multi-role approach is far better than the overengineered bankrupting F-22. The Gripen, EF, and Rafale can outperform both current AM multi roles: F-16, F-18. All have smaller radar cross sections, heat signatures, and tighter turn radii. I wish the US would adopt the same practical approach to AC design. Not only are they beautiful, but they are incredibly lethal. France was right to back out of the EF consortium. They were asked to make too many performance compromises.

Many of M2000 has crashed, only one Rafal has crashed. Rafale is expensive and french are bad sellers. The aircraft is better than F-16, Gripen and Typhoon though.
1972 France planed to replace MIII, MF1, MV, jaguar carrier by a multirole plane for 90's. Dassault proposed M4000. But in 1975, France changed and asked for an air superiority aircraft : M2000 is chosen.
1977 France proposed the idea of european plane : bireactor, canards, stealth, electric commands, etc.
France presents ACT92 (rafale), German the TFK-90, UK the ACA. Due to special needs France chose the carbon fiber plane ACX (multirole Rafale). UK-German-Spain.. built EF (no navy version).
And it was a disorientation of the pilot in severe night IFR conditions, no relation with the aircraft. Too bad the pilot didn't survive his crash, sadly.

Just because the raptor is faster doesn´t mean it´s better. The rafale would easily outmanouver the raptor since it can turn and climb faster due to it´s much lighter weight. However i think the raptor is more durable and has better computerized weapon system. I´ve heard it´s easier to fly too. 2 good aircraft either way, personally i just think the rafale is better looking.
The rafale could not outmanoeuver a raptor, even though the rafale is very manoeuvrable. Weight isn't everything. The Raptor has TVC, much improving its manoeuvrability.
My favourite together with SAAB gripen. This is a very beutiful plane. I'm looking forward to see more videos of it being, hm... what word should I use... something strong... raped perhaps? yeah, raped by those crazy french pilots. EF Typhoon was at first a UK-France cooperation. As the french army was not satisfied by the typhoon project, they decided to withdraw and go for the rafale

I don't really think it matters. Have the Raptor and the Rafale start a fight and I wonder which one will win. Its cruising speed and top speed is better than the Rafale, I think it carries more weapons and its stealth. I'd rather have the Raptor.
No comparison, not the same category. Cruising speed and top speed is not important in dogfight. Raptor is so expensive that USAF only buy 1/3 of the prévious aim.
Carrying more weapons will help I think. I don't really think that the cost is important in a dog fight. The fact that it can outrun the Rafale which will make it harder to catch and it can fire shots off before the Rafale knows its even there...I just see the Raptor as a better plane to have.

yes rafale f3 is ready, it replace all mirage, jaguar, super etendard end 2009. But some country want build mirage 2000 under licence, india look interessed by this solution, we will see.

Almost right but not exactly! The Dassault Rafale was designed in 1982 -three years before France gets out of the Eurofighter-Program. The France Navy looked for a new carrier-fighter, so they started with the ACX -Program at 1979 but the finaly outline came in 1982 by Dassault Aviation. First flight- July 4th 1986. First flight of the Eurofighter- March 27th 1994. Finaly designed in 1985.

To F-35 έχει vertical takeoff (χρήσιμο αν τα έχεις σε αεροπλανοφόρο), thrust vectoring, maneuverability, stealth και πολλά datalinks με επίγιους σταθμούς. Στους απέναντι κοστίζουν λίγο γιατί συμετέχουν στο πρόγραμμα JSF. Πιθανόν το ξεπούλημα του ΟΤΕ και άλλα εθνικά εγγλήματα να έχουν κάποιο στρατιγικό σκοπό.

Morocco has choosen F16 instead Rafale for 2 reasons: operating costs OPEX is 35 000 Euro per hour Rafale flight + The unitary price CAPEX about 120 million Euro per aircraft.
There is a third reason: US accepted to present funds plan, means US banks gave money to Morocco to by the F16. French banks did not.
EF2000 has been bought by 5 EU nations INVOLVED on the project not because EF is better.F35 will be almsot 6 times expensive since they are talking about 700 million euro 1aircraft.

rafale is about $65m per copy, roughly the same as latest f16 bk50/52+

65 m $ ?? No No.. the invoice proposal for 15 Rafale was 1.8 Billion Euro. So the unitary price is 120 M per bird.
Yes, the Opex is 35 Keuro since the bird beeing a multi-mission coucou calls for a huge number of technologies and is very complicated electronic... all this stuff requires maintenance, checks, upgrades, training etc to take profit from.
Unless you buy a Rafal to fly it as a Cessna...

that likely includes logistics, training and associated equipment, my friend. if you insist on calculating fly-away cost from the invoice, then RAAF's super hornet would cost $190m ($3.6 billion/24 jets) per copy. with built-in diagnostic software, most 4G jets cost less per hour to fly than their 3G counterparts.

What the hell are you talking about? The Rafale has a completely different planform than the Falcon. They're not even close. It has two powerplants, a full glass cockpit, and has a considerably tighter turn radius. An equally valuable Rafale asset is its smaller radar cross section and heat signature. They are completely different ac! Sorry, but the Rafale is the unrivaled superior of the Falcon and the Hornet

The J-10 is a carbon copy of the IAI Lavi. It's not even funny! It probably is a decent airframe, but I'd take the proven F-16 over the Chengdu J-10 (let alone the Gripen, Eurofighter, or Rafale). The 'Squall' would knock the Chengdu out before it even knew it was there.

The European multi-role approach is far better than the overengineered bankrupting F-22. The Gripen, EF, and Rafale can outperform both current AM multi roles: F-16, F-18. All have smaller radar cross sections, heat signatures, and tighter turn radii. I wish the US would adopt the same practical approach to AC design. Not only are they beautiful, but they are incredibly lethal. France was right to back out of the EF consortium. They were asked to make too many performance compromises.

Are you freaking kidding me? The Syrian Air Force!?!? Are you so stupid to actually believe that the Armee d'el Aire is intimidated by the Syrians. I won't argue the efficieny of the IAF, they truly are great. But the Rafale is the best 5th gen multi role out there. It's turn radius is less than even the Typhoon. It is much more maneuverable than the Hornet (A-D or E-G). Export buyers have simply settled for a cheaper (both to purchase and operate)but less capable ac.

Rafale is still in an early production stage, I don't see why we should send Rafales everywhere.
Mirages are very capable machines and France has them in a large number.
IAF is very powerful but I doubt it will engage any French Aircraft soon, too much political reasons.
And against Syrians Mig 23, 25 and 29, Mirage 2000 is good.
Don't forget that in Liban, french is only a part of a multinational force.

Many of M2000 has crashed, only one Rafal has crashed. Rafale is expensive and french are bad sellers. The aircraft is better than F-16, Gripen and Typhoon though.

1972 France planed to replace MIII, MF1, MV, jaguar carrier by a multirole plane for 90's. Dassault proposed M4000. But in 1975, France changed and asked for an air superiority aircraft : M2000 is chosen.
1977 France proposed the idea of european plane : bireactor, canards, stealth, electric commands, etc.
France presents ACT92 (rafale), German the TFK-90, UK the ACA. Due to special needs France chose the carbon fiber plane ACX (multirole Rafale). UK-German-Spain.. built EF (no navy version).

And it was a disorientation of the pilot in severe night IFR conditions, no relation with the aircraft. Too bad the pilot didn't survive his crash, sadly.

Just because the raptor is faster doesn´t mean it´s better. The rafale would easily outmanouver the raptor since it can turn and climb faster due to it´s much lighter weight. However i think the raptor is more durable and has better computerized weapon system. I´ve heard it´s easier to fly too. 2 good aircraft either way, personally i just think the rafale is better looking.

The rafale could not outmanoeuver a raptor, even though the rafale is very manoeuvrable. Weight isn't everything. The Raptor has TVC, much improving its manoeuvrability.
I agree with you, the Rafale looks awesome.

EF Typhoon was at first a UK-France cooperation. As the french army was not satisfied by the typhoon project, they decided to withdraw and go for the rafale

Rafale is my favorite plane! It's got HOTAS and a touch screen HUD. But the F-22 is better. Commence the thumbs-down!

I don't really think it matters. Have the Raptor and the Rafale start a fight and I wonder which one will win. Its cruising speed and top speed is better than the Rafale, I think it carries more weapons and its stealth. I'd rather have the Raptor.

No comparison, not the same category. Cruising speed and top speed is not important in dogfight. Raptor is so expensive that USAF only buy 1/3 of the prévious aim.

Carrying more weapons will help I think. I don't really think that the cost is important in a dog fight. The fact that it can outrun the Rafale which will make it harder to catch and it can fire shots off before the Rafale knows its even there...I just see the Raptor as a better plane to have.
