I think the dollar will be safe for the near future because the US isn't going away anytime soon. Obama had to run a deficit to prevent the economy from getting worse (i.e. spending to pay more unemployment). If the banks fail, the economy would be worse off. There are so many ties within Wall Street that if it's punished, everyone will feel the effect. If we run a free market economy, it will run itself into the ground as shown in the past few years.
