if you were to simply slap a supercharger on a car then yes that is what would happen. But to optimize power, you need to get your air/fuel ratio back to normal. So when you increase the amount of air, you also should increase the amount of fuel to get optimum power. This can be done in modern cars by tuning the ECU or by upgrading fuel rails.
I am a car enthusiast but don't really know much about the engine and all the bits and bobs. Great Video. and i right in saying the air provides quicker combustion of the same amount of fuel pushed into the engine. giving a lot more power but hitting the mpg quiet badly?
Good video, but I have one question. The energy for the supercharger movement comes from the engine, which get more power from the supercharger. How can we actually gain net engine power?
@gdoitsh You get a net gain with a supercharger because the amount of energy contained in the extra air/fuel mix the supercharger is forcing into the engine is much greater than the amount of energy required to drive the supercharger.
However, there is a limit to supercharging. As you increase the amount of air/fuel forced into the engine by increasing the supercharger's speed there comes a point were it takes so much power to turn the supercharger that there is very little net gain. Make sense?
@NickJ95GB No, there are SEVERAL smaller odds and ends, though of course the other main ones I could name are the bracket (cant have air come in and just fly around the engine cabin, it has to go INTO the engine), the intakes (helps ALL the air get to the pistons), and I cant remember the exact name of the part, but its simply a mechanism that turns the exterior gears you can see his left hand over at 5:32
Well first thanks for this great explanation i really wanted to know how the supercharger do work but i have a qusetion does the golf 6 TSI have really a turbo charger and a supercharger or it dosn't ?

how much more power can a supercharger give the engine?
chicnstix 8 months ago
@chicnstix Depends on the car of course, and the brand and set up the the supercharger.
For my C6 Corvette, the Charger threw on 152.1 Horsepower.
