I recently read a biography of Field Marshal Haig that explicitly singled out Melchett as an example of how in recent decades Haig's reputation has been trashed. The bio took 600 pages to mount a very unconvincing case for Haig I might say, and most of Melchett's 'Haig-like' behaviour is spot-on.
