Why is everyone complaining about Peter Pan being a girl? Guys have played girls before, girls have played guys before. It's not that weird and I thought she did a good job.
It's Now Tradition for a woman to play peter Pan in the play! You can look it up but I think Mary Martin was the first ! after they have all been female Gymnast! i can't remember but some of them were quite famous from the olympics!
Had it on VHS, with commercials at beginning, end, and "intermission." My dad says I watched it 60 times before I turned 5...which I don't remember! One of my all time favorites, represents a more innocent time. Thank you for the post!!!
It says: "Has been very limited in its showing. The DVD is long out of print and expensive to own." That's one of the many reasons FOR piracy. Thanks to YTD, there is now another copy of this classic.
Wonder why this isn't re-issued on DVD. I must've caught the very last sale of it back in the 90's, It was a very good (and affordable) DVD, with one or two small scenes 'restored' to the video. The only thing it didn't include was the animation of the very first NBC peacock, which was always played in front of the TV broadcasts. It was aired as late as 1995 (perhaps to introduce the show on DVD for the first time), then went to GoodTimes DVD, then disappeared. This is a great video.
Thanks for posting this! I remember watching this on TV with my family when I was very little. My mum was always excited that it was on & made a special Family occasion out of it. It was shown as a repeat, as I was only 2 in 1960, so I must have seen it when I was older. recently, I was thinking how much I'd like to see it again & show it to my grandkids - then I came across this!
@TheBookWorm1718 Te scene in which Liza the maid dances with the trees and the animals. It happens just after Peter says goodnight to Wendy and is guarding the house they built for her.
Wonderful times of innocence! Actually watched it with my brothers and Mom & Dad as a family in black and white. Good memories! Mom & Dad are gone, but the bothers are stronger than ever!
I grew up Watching this!! I'm so glad I rediscovered this!! I love this version of Peter Pan. The only downside is the songs stay stuck in your head! and thats not much of a downside at all. Thanks for posting this!
this is the version i grew up with. because of that i feel every incarnation of peter pan should employ a blonde tiger lily, regardless of whether or not it makes sense
@Jami86e Ha ha, I totally agree, I've only seen clips of the animated Disney movie but I remember seeing her there looking more Indian and thinking 'she's not right!'
@scrumptiousb0dy back when Peter Pan was performed as a play, Peter was played by a woman because the character of Peter was supposed to be a boy of prepubescant age, and due to child labor laws and requirements of the material, they couldn't have an 8 year old boy play Peter.
@scrumptiousb0dy The problem is the voice. While they could find an older man who looked young, he wouldn't SOUND young. Most young boys are able to sing in a soprano voice or a high alto voice. Most men above the age of 13 are unable to sing that high anymore, there for from a vocal standpoint a woman was the only choice.
I have this movie at home too, but my VHS player broke, so I watch this on the internet. Besides, nobody watches tapes anymore anyway. That's why I'm lucky to be watching this on Youtube. And I thought I was never going to watch it again.

Was the Act III title card lost or was it overlooked back in 1960?
moviebuff1975 1 month ago
@moviebuff1975 Yeah I never got that either because as a kid I would count the act cards.
