The old 5.9 Cummins was a monster bone stock, if you did just so much as retuning it you'd have yourself a real beast. Put any kind of actual money into it (over 1k) and you're looking at a truck that can compete with most base line muscle cars and mid-performance sports cars.
@TheArmydude050290 your an idiot. a stock 12v is 180 hp. retuning isn't shit. and a grand?? are you gonna put a couple new injectors in it?? my truck was bone stock when i bought it, i now have about 7200 dollars in the motor and about 3 grand in the tranny and i am running mid 11's. that is aurora twins, stage 3 injectors, sun coast tranny, arp studs, 17 degree timing advance, south bend dual disc clutch and a few other small things like a gtted fuel pump.

Propane injectors, a custom tune and a larger intake can get you further across the line and cost nothing more than pocket change for the serious custom guy, or even your average joe. Doing simple small changes to add up to large performance are what made the 5.9 Cummins a monster to deal with for other vehicles of its model year. So no, the idiot is you bud.
Turbo Diesel's are nothing to mess with. I love mustangs but I am aware at how much horsepower a simple exhaust setup and computer will give a diesel. All my buddys have diesels and they are all around 800 horse with the chip set to extreme level 5. They have other mods of course too... And I love the sound of them. the 7.3l International harvester motor they put in the 90's fords are my personal favorite. Cummins 24v are nice too. duramax arent really my taste i worked at a chevy dealership.
