Well I'll tell you. I'm a golfer and a NASCAR fan. And both are a sport and they both are athletes. Try driving your car for 2 hours straight with an average speed of 160 miles an hour in a helmet and full body suit in about 100 degrees tmep. That takes an athlete. i agree golf is a sport, it takes amazing skill and atheticism, but i honestly dont think of nascar as a sport. i really like nascar, with JPM and truex jr, being my fav drivers, and i know the risks involved driving at such high speeds. but they're not really athletes. if anything they are good at having a good MENTALITY, and controlling their nervous system, but just because you can sit in a box thats over 100 degrees, doesnt make you an athlete. its good entertainment though.

I agree. Tiger undoubtedly has incredible hand-eye coordination and he is certainly "athletic." However, he is nowhere near the complete athlete. To be complete, yes you must become "out of breath." It's called stamina, endurance, fortitude -- and it's not something that golfers have to battle. Tennis and basketball are much more complete endeavors than golf. Tiger is "athletic" in some ways, but far from the complete athlete. I doubt Tiger himself would dispute this.

Yes, it takes incredible skill and hand-eye coordination. I played high school golf and won a tournament as a junior.

However, John Daly managed to win majors with 50 extra pounds and nursing a hangover. You simply could NOT function at a high level in most other sports in this type of condition. Golf is like archery -- an incredibly difficult skill that requires specialized "golf muscles." My only point is that it is not the complete athletic endeavor. Far from it.

No way for you to verify, but I won many golf tourneys as a junior. I also played tennis in college.

In the summer, I still play quite a bit of golf (shoot in the high 80s) as well as league tennis. I have never been physically exhausted during or after golf. By that I mean out of breath and barely able to stand up straight, with heart racing. That happens often in tennis.

Golf is a sport like archery is a sport. It's incredibly difficult, fun, but not physically demanding. Not even close.
