love the car man!! and i love how you don't have to spend an arm and a leg just to get one either, hell if you had to you could always get a Seville STS which is pretty damn close...but im sure thats just a little bit heavier than the GXP..... ony one question though.... does the transmission hold up pretty well even with a lead foot?
@Steez420 My bonni GXP is faster than the gran prix GTP I know for a fact. my cousin has a 04 grand prix GTP with the 3.8 supercharged and its pretty damn fast for a V6 but it cant keep up with the northstar.
@Carfreak1177 I would actually say that in the quarter they would be side by side. The GTP does 14.8 @ 95 mph and the GXP does 14.8 @ 95 mph. Off the line the GTP should have it, but not even by a noticeable amount.
@Carfreak1177 Depends on if you are talking about the GTP Comp-G or the base GTP. The Comp-G will do 0-60 in 6.5 seconds or better, which is the same as this car. GM should have waited and dropped the LS4 in this but I guess they had other plans
@Carfreak1177 i had a GTP once appon a time untill i hit a deer, and the motor blew up. and im pretty sure in its glory days, it would smoke that thing. i dont know for a fact, but im pretty sure just judging by this video
@Steez420 the 260hp 3rd gen GTP,supercharged Grand Prix is really close, but not quite as fast as this,275hp Northstar V8 Bonneville, they actually might be the exact same 0-60 and 1/4 mile wise. But a 5.3 liter 303 hp V8 GXP Grand Prix would eat one of these up.These are still wicked ass cars though.
@imserious2187 The bonni and GP GXP's are pretty close but not sure which one is quicker. My guess is 0-60 the GP would win but the bonneville would take it in the long run.
@Carfreak1177 The Grand Prix GXP would be faster would be faster then then the Bonneville. The Bonneville does about 14.8 in the quarter and the Grand Prix does about 14.3. Zero to sixty the Grand Prix is much faster with 0-60 mph in about 5.7 seconds and the Bonneville is about 6.8 seconds.
You think your northstar BV would take the LS4 GXP in the long run? ...I know the northstars are pretty good engines but the LSX series engines are touch'd by the hands of GOD...;-)
@Carfreak1177 The Grand Prix GXP is much faster than the Bonni GXP. 0-60 in 5.7 and 1/4 mile in 14.3 @98 and that was just Car and Driver. I've hit high 13s box stock in my GP GXP. They are not close at all. And the only way a Bonni GXP would ever catch me at higher speeds is when I let off the gas or hit my brakes after I'm very well ahead by several lengths. And another thing, the last generation GTP also beat the Bonni GXP stock for stock. 6.5 to 60 and 15 flat or better in the 1/4.
@coolgames14 Sorry bud, I tried its got a governor at 140, but Im going to have it takin off and Im sure this Northstar will then have no problem getting to 160mph :)
@Carfreak1177 I think the only major problem is the car isn't really able to handle that speed. Not that it can't handle say, 120 maybe. But most passenger cars aren't really designed to run at those speeds unless they're sports cars.
140? u lucky my governor stops me at 110 in my GP i lost two freeway races cuz of it im gonna get rid of it but my hours have been cut at work, my nex check will be completely eaten by saving fo my payment, gas, and taxes. u got rid of urs?
hey, have you ever had any troubles with the northstar engine or the transmission? i am wondering because i have just heard that they are expensive to get worked on..........and if anything what does a tune up for that car usually run? I am really looking into getting one of these!! they are awesome
@tbirdsport302 Nope I've never had any problems with anything exept for the 02 sensor went out on it and GM fixed it 4 free (under warranty) but its only got 33,000 miles on it so, but I also have a 1999 Cadillac deville with the same 32v northstar as my pontiac and its got 109,000 miles but still sounds shifts and runs as if it was new I highly recomend one. I love mine. :) A Bonneville not a deville haha
@tbirdsport302 Not cheap...REBUILD on mine was just under 3000...no probelms otherwise...engine is strong and has awesome sound...selling mine if you want it
I have a 98 STS that's bone stock with stock exhaust and I lost against a R/T by a car length. If I would have had less restrictive exhaust it may have done better. Northstars are very fast- I ran a 14.95 1/4 mile with mine and I couldn't get traction that day. Bonnevilles should also be a bit lighter than the STS. I love your car man, picking my GXP up next week. Mine's getting some mods- 300 horse cams, probably a port and polish...
@Carfreak1177 WEll my friend raced a Bonneville GXP in his R/T with the 5.7L and he won so these cars must be very evenly matched and it just depends on whos engine stays in the powerband more I suppose. he said the GXP was right next to him until he got to 4th gear tho and then he slowly pulled away.
Yea, and grand ma or grand pa was driving it... But no way you beat a charger with a hemi....... The 5.7 hemi is pushing 368HP and the 6.1 Hemi is pushing 425HP... Maybe it was a 3.5L or 2.7L charger with fake hemi decals b/c those engine has 250HP and 178HP...And the GXP bonneville has 275HP..........
HA okay buddy I dont care how much hp a charger SRT8 has I never said I would beat that I know it wouldnt. And a new charger a 368 but the older one like I raced have about 340, My car has a intake and full exhaust system so it probly has a bit more than 275 And no it was not a 3.5 because I just barley one Im not saying anything about but chargers, the one I raced lost so I dont know Y maby he is just a shitty driver but my car was faster.
hay man I bet you could hang with or beat a charger the old chargers with the hemi was not that fast. it was about the same as your GXP. chargers are also heavier than the Bonneville.
Hey, it's all good man..... One thing for sure though, it's nice to be driving a car knowing that it's the only 1 of it's kind in the area,, Unlike those chargers and 300C's you see 1 every 30 secs...
@Ron0968 dude dodge's numbers are sooo off lol. when my pontiac bonneville ssei was bone stock (says 240 stock) i smoked a 3.5 charger. just sayin. them 6.1's are mean but the hp numbers are only to sell the cars lol.
I drive an '01 SLS actually, but it's still a very strong car. I've done some exhaust work and removed all the insulation/plastic from the engine bay. My best 0-60 is about 6.5 seconds, but no better than that.
It has the 4.6 Northstar V8 engine from cadillac. I dont know if its faster than a grand prix GXP but it will get up and go pretty quick. its faster than a charger RT I know that much:)
The Bonneville is not faster than the charger rt on top end or 0-60. The bonneville runs about 6.6 and the the charger is 7/10 of a second faster at about 5.9 seconds. This should be expected because the bonneville has a 4 speed as compared to the 5 speed of the charger. wider ratio=slower acceleration. The bonneville also has a lower top end compared to the charger. my gxp tops out at 139mph. The charger i have never maxed out but i have done more than that 140 in it.
just got a boner... not

Stock for stock the Bonnie GXP is quicker, the GTP has so much aftermarket for it that with a small amount of money can be much quicker.

@Steez420
Ill take a GTP over THE BONNEVILLE GXP
acceleration on the GP GTP its faster and You can do tons! of mods to a Gtp!
there is really nothing you can do to the Northstar of the BonneRville ....
I own a Grand Prix CompG GTP and I love it.
If you want a GXP do a G8 GXP or GP GXP with its 5.3LS4 engine or even a G6 3.9vvt
but not a bonneRville gxp you wound find shit for those fukers not even an exhaust system......
