  • trying this recipe out tomorrow super pumped i tried the heathly canna users and it worked well, but now its on to heavy stuff. im gunna filter it , the last batch i didnt cuz i wasnt sure of the loss of thc and i didnt use much flower so i didnt want to risk it.

  • I know there are many variables when it comes to Canna Butter potency, but approx. how many ounces per pound of butter, and is it possible that the Coffee Filter could be filtering out some of the Trichomes

  • very nice!! that a great method took lots of the green matter out of the butter i no people who soak the bud/trim in water for 24-48 hours every 8 hours or so the water is emptied out and new water is put in they do this to leach out the chlorophyll so when they make the butter little to no green mater is present just nice yellow butter just like it was to start with.. if i did the leaching for 24-48 hours then made the butter finished your way it would be some clean potent butter!

    For thousands of years humans have made rope from cannabis plant matter, if you do not filter this material out of your butter, you are essentially "eating rope".

  • @thegreenbastard42011 I've used one 3/4 of an ounce of mixed strains of bud to one pan of brownies 12 per pan and they were galactic. It seams I don't get high from brownies or trip my face off for 5 hours. I find it hard to find that happy medium. I would say 7 grams wouldn't be too bad at all.

    Hahaha. No problem. for such a small amount of bud I would use one stick (about 120 grams) of butter. The cookies will not be quite as strong as the ones from this vid, but they will be good and you should get every little bit of the THC this way.

    The THC molecule is much smaller than the holes in the filter, so you technically you shouldn't lose any. I would keep the heat low to avoid degrading the THC though.

  • im not saying this is a bad technique just that u should simmer at a low heat becuz about half of the THC wil evaporate with the water

  • @Jump 3.5 grams. Thats nothing. Go with a half stick of butter. About 7 grams per stick of butter is average. I would not even do it with 3.5 grams. Thats a waste of time. Get more bud and do it right.

    Not much, about 20-30g of good quality, unsalted butter will give you some pretty potent Canna-butter.

    A dairy farmer told me that better cream is used in unsalted butter because it doesn't have luxury of being preserved and masked with salt. He also told me that chocolate milk is all of the nasty discolored milk they can't sell as regular milk, so they mask it with chocolate coloring and sugar. Sounded reasonable, so I stuck with it.

  • @jumpingjehosafad i used around 20-25g to make 250g of butter(didn't weigh it, just threw in some popcorn buds)

    the butter turned out potent. if you want potent butter, i'd sugest to aply a 1/10 ratio grams of bud/popcorn buds/butter. in the case you are using trim , i'd suggest using 100-250g of trim , depending on the quality

    The THC has no trouble travelling through the coffee filter, so the potency should be unaffected.

  • @eselove1 I don't have that capability. Simple as this: Place 8oz butter and 1/8-1/4oz (good quality) ground up cana in a 1qt FoodSaver Vacuum bag (or HD ZipLock, press ALL air out and seal). Put into Crock-Pot, fill with water. Set to l o w and cover. Most HD freezer zip bags are pretty tough and can handle being held at 160-175F. Let it go for 12+hrs, occasionally checking on temperature. Strain with fine mesh strainer. Toss the green with a spoon to extract. Make a double batch of brownies!

  • Why not use olive oil instead of butter

  • Too hot of cooking and too much trouble. Vacuum pack the butter with product that you put through a grinder. Set up a Crockpot filled with water on LOW and allow to simmer away at around 160F for 12hrs. No need to stir, deal with excess water, etc. Sous-vied method is trouble-free, gets excellent extraction and tastes better (no bitter flavor).

  • Great recipe! I agree with removing all the plant matter. I use a metal coffee filter. There is a difference in taste when you cook without the crud. Less pungent flavor and easier to mask in recipes.

    I just stir periodically over the course of 4-6 hours. There is no visible indication of when it's time to strain, as far as I know.

  • @IsItTheBagel I saw another video that said the plant matter would stop floating back to the top after stirring when it was done. Can't vouch for it.

  • I just rinse the splooge on the bottom of the disk with really cold water, then reheat the butter and let all the water sputter out of it, then just strain it through a metal filter. You get rid of the grunge without losing as much as you would with the coffee filters. There's a shit ton of butter left in those.

    I have never had the desire to eat the unfiltered stuff after seeing the grime left in the filter. Usually the butter comes out much cleaner looking, but of course, when I film it, the butter doesn't look as good (I didn't use enough water, that's why). First time I made them, it was so clean it looked like canola oil, I was sure there was no THC in them, so I ate 2 cookies; I had to lay on the couch and convince myself that it's impossible to O.D on weed, I was killed!

  • @YouGrower Awesome! I have a bunch of trim and I couldn't make up my mind between BHO and butter. Something I forgot to ask was if there was any difference in taste? I love edibles, but I am not always a fan of the buddy flavor. And I feel you on thinking you ODed. My local dispensary had these Thai balls that were basically dough and hash about the size of a golf ball. I had half and during the times where I wasn't sleeping and sweating I kept thinking I was dying. It lasted from 11pm to 10pm.
