  • It's a 4004. Look at the embossed sides on the horn/projector.

  • A WPS-4004 is not the same as a Vortex R4.

  • The STL-10 is for backup.

  • That's a 4004. If it has an X on the front then it's a 4004.

  • My city has whelens every where. But only the newer whelens are the 4004s. They've always tested every siren here using the wail signal. There is a loud 4004 right up the road from my house

  • is it just me, or is the speed of the rotator slower than normal. Can you change the sppe or not???? Write back, thnx.

  • @whelen4004 Nope, you cant.

  • You seemed really close to it. Was it really loud?

  • that sounds like a 4002! Iv heard a 4002 before and this sounds liek it

  • Arlington Heights and Franklin Park Illinois have whelens if you're looking for more to tape.

  • If you want to find more whelens, Franklin park has some Whelens. They're probably the 4004 series, but they could be R4s. There's also probably a whelen 3016 in that area as well.

  • i live in westchester

  • That STL-10 siren at the end is kind of ugly. Looks so old.

  • that looks more like an stl-10

  • I don't care for wail mode much.

  • I always have liked the regular alert mode on whelens. But this tone I'm really starting to like. It sounds very similiar to police car sirens. One tone you don't here often on a whelen is attack mode.

  • very nice wheelen. It makes a very cool tone.

  • The siren at the end is an STL-10. You might want to correct that in the description.

  • It's a 4004. 4004's have Rectangles on the side of the horn, Others that don't have rectangles have "stripes" and they are the other Vortex Mods.

  • Actually it's easier to tell by:

If it's a vortex it will have either a fin or a square motor protrusion

If it's a 4004 it will never have a fin and always a round motor protrusion

  • what's a motor protrusion???

  • Sorry, forgot to say it was the rotator motor that sticks out, that protrusion.

  • yeah i see what your talking about, that little thing that poak out just above the mounting bracket.

  • The picture at 0:03 shows it incredibly clearly. This one's definitely a 4004

  • yeah no dought.

  • just because it doesn't have fins doesn't mean it isn' a vortex

  • Never said it had to have a fin on the back to be a vortex, spacko

  • Learn to spell, and use better grammar. Nobody wants to speak to a retard who can't speak proper english. And don't tell me to fuck off, it may be the internet but i don't want to deal with some fuckwad.

  • You weren't stating an opinion, you were trying to correct something that hadn't been said. Learn to spell and stop trying to make up comebacks. Piss off.

  • quit trying to corret people please and let people be entitled to their own oppion.

    thanks

  • That isn't an opinion, that is called being a numpty.

  • A Numpty? Is that Even a word??? I mean i m sorry i never heard that word before

  • It's a british english term, narb.

  • Sorry I not sure What narb is either. you see I am from the united states

  • because narb is an internet term.

  • Could also be a 4003 ya know...

  • That is a possibility.

  • this one has a round rotator protrusion....making it a 4004

  • I think I heard a Thunderbolt in the video

  • I think all of them heard were T-128s an d 2001s. It's probably the T-128s that sound like thunderbolts.

  • Nice video of the vortex! always liked whelen's wail tone.

  • yea we have the vortex with flap and the wail tone is cool during a tornado warning and not to mention i live .2 to .3 miles from it

  • at the end thats a stl-10 not an sth. just giving you a heads up BTW great video

  • Great video! :)

  • That's an older 4004. If you look closely, it has the screen on the outside of the horn, which is what the older WPS-4000s had (before the days of the Vortex).

  • Oh, and the old siren at the end is a STL-10, not STH-10.

  • Awesome

  • Nice video of the Whelen 4004/Vortex. :)
