I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but it can be argued that The Magic Portal wasn't actually the first brickfilm.

While the idea, production and everything else for The Magic Portal started in 1985, it didn't come out before 1989. And, in 1987, the LEGO company released a couple of shorts named "LEGO Sport films" on video tape. (Those can be found on YouTube as well, by the way.)
