It's the best to have the parents feed the baby birds for the first three weeks. It's going to be extremely difficult to try and to hand feed new born baby birds coz it's very tricky. The very little ones need to be hand-fed every four hours and that means no sleep at night! I was worried that my lovebirds won't feed their young when they laid their first clutch of eggs, but they did a great job!
We removed the baby from the nest about 3 weeks old for hand feeding, when feather tracks are starting to grow on the babies. You can leave the birds entirely to the parents if they feed the babies well (you can periodically check on the babies and see if they look like they're starving..) If you decide to hand-feed, I recommend Katee's hand-feeding formula. Katee's formula contains more natural ingredients so the birds will wean easier. It's in a power form.
Mix the power with hot water to turn it into a pudding like substance. Keep the mixture WARM...never feed the baby with HOT food or COLD food, and never OVER-feed! (baby bird will vomit when it's being overfed, and it's not good). Some babies will appear to be hungry even after it's pouch in the chest is all puffed up with food.
I use a small ceramic plate for the mixture, and place it into a slightly bigger bowl which contains hot water to keep the food plate warm. Use your little finger to test the mixture's temperature. If you pull the babies out after 3 weeks, the feeding routine is about every 6 hours. You can feed them in the morning when you get up, then another one in the afternoon, and a last feeding before you go to bed.
For the parent birds, you can mix in a little bit of cooked egg york into the pallet everyday for them when they are feeding. Cottle bone is very nutritious and the mother bird needs calcium after laying eggs. Provide the parent birds with different veggie, and fruit, and corn for them to munch on which is healthy for the birds. Good luck!
:) This makes me smile so much! That is the cutest little bird I've seen yet and I love when they eat gooey food and go like 'nom nom nom' with the beak chew!! :) Thanks for sharing!
2. make sure ur mixture is nice and hot...but not hot enough to hurt ur skin....put it in ur wrist to see how hot it is, and never keep old mixture in the fridge or something to use next time...cause otherwise they will get sour crop and die.
What are you feeding the babies? I just had my very first clutch (peach faced babies) and I was thinking about handfeeding them so any tips would be great?

Should use a syringe for the little guy. It's easier for him to eat.

ok...theirs a few mistakes here...
1. mixtures needs to be very runny,
2. make sure ur mixture is nice and hot...but not hot enough to hurt ur skin....put it in ur wrist to see how hot it is, and never keep old mixture in the fridge or something to use next time...cause otherwise they will get sour crop and die.
