I thought that for a while too, and for that reason I didn't think the romance was particularly believable, but I thought about it from another point of view. If you live in a desolate world where all you can think about is surviving, and everyone you see around you, including the women, are partners in a sick game of survival against machines...Sarah must have seemed very peaceful to him. Something beautiful and innocent in a terrible, dark world. Somebody he'd want to protect.

I don't know about that either. Let's say Reese lived after he killed the Terminator...this new world is still very strange and unknown to him. After what he'd been through with Sarah, why would he just leave to "check this new world out?" I bet that as a soldier, he'd never be able to completely escape the soldier mentality...and would probably want Sarah more than anyone else to introduce him to the new world he now finds himself in.

Actually, I've always found that element of it all rather fascinating; in a sense, John and Skynet created themselves in the same temporal paradox (John sent Kyle back to be his father and the remains of the Terminator sent back by Skynet became the basis for Skynet itself)

yeah, that´s great. one, because it´s really fits the character - it would be completely illogical for kyle to be all cool and experienced, given what we know about his life. two, this is a nice change, because usually in (action) movies the male character is always in control and at least as experienced as the woman. here, we have something truly original and touching.

I look back and I realize that THIS is what the franchise is all about at it's heart.

While T3, T4, and the TV series are worthy efforts, it really just isn't the same without ol' James Cameron.

Cameron has yet to disappoint, so that's why I think AVATAR is sure to deliver. Always mixing great characters and story with mind-boggling sci-fi.
