It won't hurt to ask for a valium before you have this if your doctor will agree to it. Most docs won't give it but it's worth a try to ask. I don't see why they won't let you have a little mild anxiety drug or a little sleeping pill for this test! I've seen patients go through it and it is pure hell! Most of the time, they get the test results and all it does is tell them they have acid reflux which is what they already knew!
OMG...poor guy. He is so brave. I am an RN and have had to put down NG tubes on patients. I feel so sorry for them. I just cannot take anything going up my nose. I have "globus" and asthma related to reflux and the doc wanted to do this on me but I said "HELL NO." So, I am treating myself with over the counter Pepcid AC and trying to control my diet and coffee intake. Any way you look at it: reflux sucks and so do all the tests that go with it!
I had to do that...I hurled all over the nurse. >.>
