  • Chavez was born and raised in AZ, and his UFW work was based in Delano, CA (near FRESNO). His family only lived in SJ for a short time. SJSU was established as a teacher's college 100 years before CC ever showed up in San Jose. Tommie Smith and John Carlos stood up for equal rights for African Americans, but UNLIKE CHAVEZ they had a connection to SJSU (they were SJSU students at the time) so a monument on campus dedicated to those two guys makes perfect sense.

  • Please cut the ad hominem BS. It makes you sound like an a-hole and an ignoramus. Consider taking an anger management course, too. Oh, and consider educating yourself about Caesar Chavez and SJSU before you post comments about Caesar Chavez and SJSU.

  • So CC lived in SJ. So what? What did he ever do for SJSU? SJSU started out as a teacher's college in SF in 1857 and move to SJ in the 1870s. Over the past 50+ years, SJS has transformed from a teacher's college into a major engineering and technology school. It also is well known for its business school and art and design programs. It has never been associated with agriculture or Caesar Chavez, for that matter. Please tell me what Chavez has to do with SJSU.

  • I'm Obviously Calling You An Idiot Dumb Shitt.

Everybody Knows Cesar Chavez Started Fighting For Farmers Rights In San Jose. And He Lived In The East Side. Why Do You Think There's Basically At Least A Portrait Or Huelga Bird In Every School In The East Side Union District In San Jose. Duhhh, Shut Up.

  • Yeah... so far you've called me an "idiot" and a "dumb shitt." Nice work. Please take your punk-ass, ethnocentric latino bullshit somewhere else. You obviously don't have the chops to attend SJCC, much less a top-tier university like SJS, so why do you even care if an SJSU ALUMNUS doesn't like the above statue? This has nothing to do with you or your kind. Seriously, don't you have some east-side miniature gang turd appointment to go to? I'm half Mexican, by the way, so don't go there.

  • Hideous looking monument that appears out of place at SJSU where the student body is nearly half Asian. Why not erect this monstrosity at Fresno State? Fresno is an ag school in an agricultural community. More Latinos there, too. Here's another idea: Design a monument that is not garish and trite and obnoxious. I'm very disappointed with quality of the public art that has appeared on campus in the 12+ years since I graduated, especially considering SJSU is known for its fine art school.

  • @deephot

Idiot that's where Cesar Chavez fought for mexican rights.

  • @Sonrizaz408 Watch who you're calling idiot. You can't even write in complete sentences. Chavez fought for farm workers' rights all through the borderlands. He marched in California, Arizona, Texas and Mexico, too. Moreover, he has no official connection to San Jose State University. At least Fresno State is an ag school located in CA's principal farming region. SJSU is an engineering and business school located in Silicon Valley. Like I said, this monument is out of place on the SJSU campus.
