I lived in the North for 30 years and wanted to hang myself many times during the long winters.

I moved South, the sun shines almost every day, and I am a completely positive person.

It's called SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder.

It has little to do with the exposure to new and exciting worlds available to the young.

Your wrong. While you may be happier in the sun. Its the media showing the people what they can't have that makes them depressed. The drinking culture is also pushed via tv. Western society is dieing and these people have been sucked. Im in australia right now and they also have a huge problem with suicide rates and they have a lot of Sun. You can sun bake in winter in australia if the weather is right.

I think some people are prone to depression but the diet and lack of exercise come into as well. I know when i go to the gym i alwasy feel better after it. In Australia they have take away food shoop on every main road. Mcdonalds, KFC etc etc. People drink coke like its water. Bad thing that all add up. Anyway Greenland better wake up. With 60000 people they will just became non existant.

hehe a bit of update from Greenland: Suicide rate IS falling. Ekonomi sucks, we just sold one of our two atlantic planes, and are planning to sell 2 Dash-7, and buy 2 Dash-8-200. the allowances of our shrimps and hellebutts(?) are dropping, we may only catch 1000 tonnes of shrimps, in a seson, wich before we could catch 1400+ tonnes. Artic Umiaq Line is soon going bankrupt. Thats was roughly wats going on now here in Greenland

I have never met or talked to anyone from Greenland before. It is too bad so many people in america have no clue to what is outside it's borders. I hope to visit Greenland some day and from what I understand, there is alot of opportunity and growth potential there.

Actually Greenland's native people and Icelanders , the vikings as you say were in constant conflict and figthing each other and most of the icelanders left Greenland because there was not enough food and they were getting less nutrition than healthy and the rest was most likely slaughtered by the iniuites, so the vikings didnt bring you the alcohol it was actuallt the danish that brought it to you 200-250 years after the norse settlement had died.

Just recently I've heard that Nunavut has slightly higher of self-inflicted deaths. Thanks to anti-sealing/fur industry in the early 80's and to today. How are we the circumpolar people to grow our own food? Do animal rights movement groupd have any idea of they are doing to the people of the arctic?
