  • Who else was thinking "this thing.....called love..." when he started?

  • Here's MY opinion;

Tommy Emmanuel is a world-class guitar player and this particular tune is fantastic.

Anyone who "thinks they heard a string out of tune" on this clip is a pretentious dumbass...as well as a fraud. FACT!

  • Hey...did anyone else, besides Fluffy, hear that string that's out of tune? Anybody? Anybody at all? LOL!

  • Just saw him in Atlanta last night. Truly brilliant. I was let down he didn't play Mombasa, but was a unforgettable experience. I hope to see him again if possible.

  • Wait until you've spent an hour with him in person with nothing other than him, his guitar and the amp. It's breathtaking just watching him play. Keep up the good work Tommy, and come back to Toowoomba anytime.

  • Tommy Emmanuel isn't "overplaying"...he's just on a different level than every other guitar player (or wannabe) on the planet.

  • Gotta love someone who can play An Old Fashion Love Song in 3 part harmony all by himself :D

  • Tabs?

  • Tommy is simply the best acoustic guitarist I have ever seen!

I realy hope he comes to the Reading Hexagon one day soon.

  • @PCashie Reading? Let's just get him to London first, then we can worry about the Home Counties. Tommy Emmanuel's Australian!

  • Just glad he remembered all I taught him !!!!

  • Wowowowowowow god

  • i want to have his babies, shame im a bloke though.

  • Now that's how u play acoustic guitar feelin this cat

  • Ive Stood 4Ft away from the stage watching him play & i still dont know how the heck he does what he does. Hes simply phenominal exceptional i swear hes got 12 fingers on 1 hand.

  • It just sounds like blues wankery to me. His guitar also sounds out of tune. Not impressive. This is guitar at it's most beautiful watch?v=jSxPDAUbiQA

  • @Fluffypopcicle eh? out of tune?

  • @Fluffypopcicle out of tune ??? well what is the song called, and can you film yourself playing the tune how it should be plaid..

god i hat idiots like this.

cant wait for this users version lmao... the guy is a legend and Eric Clapton speaks very highly of him so if i was you i would go get your hearing tested.

  • @Fluffypopcicle Perhaps you could come and teach us all how to play like that as it's so easy. You're clearly the reincarnation of the 20 fingered guitar God. Tommy Immanuel, World Guitarist of the Year 2010 is unimpressive and out of tune? Get a life and an education you idiot.

  • @Buzzwagon69

    @kempouk

    @MultiNichts

I was taking into consideration the title of the video. I thought I heard a string out of tune as well. No, I can't play like that, but I don't think it sounds good and there is certainly more beautiful guitar music out there. I like Tommy Immanuel, he is a classical guitar god, but I don't like this. It's all opinions and I stated mine because that's what the comments board is for now buzz off.

  • @Fluffypopcicle fair comment, but if you don't like this then you need your bumps felt,

    it is happy music

not droll just happy foot tapping stuff.

go away and listen to you classical stuff if that's what flicks your switch.

  • @Buzzwagon69 I can't tell if he's trolling or not. He linked a Buckethead video, which is a load of shit haha. The comment seemed to be aimed to piss people off. But then again, he could actually be retarded. Or a retarded troll. I don't know.

  • @Fluffypopcicle Hey Fluff, it's only one track. You can't get this guy's stuff by this track alone. I understand some thinking he "overplays" as I think he is at his best when he mellows out and shows his lyrical best like some of his original songs. He is regarded by many guitarists as THE best which is a ridiculous call on anyone. Seriously great though and worthy of further listening IMO.

  • @VisionProductionsNZ

I already said that I liked him, that obviously means that I have listened to his other stuff.

  • @Fluffypopcicle Fluff...I realize you've already been railed for your asinine comment, but I'm can't help telling you that you've made a complete ass of yourself...no sense trying to defend yourself as nothing could ever redeem your station here.

Now...let this be a lesson for you...and every other sanctimonious dumbass out there.

  • @MotherFunkAndWagnall

So I'm not allowed to have an opinion? Notice how "to me" clearly means that it's an opinion and I'm not trying to pass it as a fact. I'm allowed to have one so go fuck yourself. I'm not even defending my opinion at this point (which was taken way out of context anyways) I'm defending my right to have one without being scrutinized for it. It's sanctimonious dumbasses like you that make the internet annoying.

  • There's only one word for that. Genius!

  • the lick at the end is ridiculous

  • @gummylipstick no it is not, its part of the act and the act is good.

  • The song is Tommy's rendition of Just an Old Fashioned Love Song - originally done by Three Dog Night (mid - late 1960's)

    Good stuff!!

  • @artstone535 well tell him from me it is just awesome, and thank him for logging this tune in my head that keeps going over and over and over lol...

  • what is that song called, its is quite catchy,

  • anybody got any idea of the name of that song?

  • Is that lil white cup fer his chew backer???

  • @Jackiedajackass just wondering if he was one of ours.......?....

  • Show the other guitar player!

  • only the envious can click the "dislike" button :)

  • I'm going to see him play live in three days!

  • I could once play the guitar like him but then I took an arrow to the knee.

  • UGGH! I wish I could do that!!!

  • Tommy's a genius on the guitar, I have loved him for decades and saw him at Warragul, he was aaaamaaazing! :) Bruce Mathiske is also worth a listen if you are a Tommy fan..

  • And he has great hair. Awesome

  • I have a bad habit of hating on Tommy just because he is all that amateur guitarists rave about and aspire to be. But when I hear this I gotta say 'he got groove'.

  • i wouldn't call i beautiful, but he is really good ! groovy, got a nice rhythm to it . :D

  • great play!! 68 loosers don't understand it=)

  • wow

  • Amazing Tommy!

  • Holy crap.....I have watched this a dozen times, and all I cn say is......Durrrrrrrrr, wow...

  • Chet Atkins rendition of Vincent is the best guitar playing I've ever heard in my opinion

  • @WTFlookup i absolutely agree.

  • @WTFlookup Jeff Lang does a hot version of Vincent Black Lightning

  • Stunning F+%%* STUNNING!!!!

  • this is Tommy Emmanuel

  • I love Tommy Emmanuel's guitar skills, I believe, he may have suppassed Chet Atkins, my fingerpicking mentor, but know, the torch must be carried on, to further heights, which Mr. Emmanuel is doing very well. Tommy, I am 69 years old, but I sincerely hope to meet you at one of your concerts, befor I go, and I am playing along with you on your videos on you-tube, learn a little bit more every day!

  • TE makes the sun come out

  • @uneedtherapy42 Nope. Orfeu does!

  • Name of this song? or is a improvisation??

  • @SantiFlashback27 Just an Old Fashioned Love Song written by Paul Williams and performed by Three Dog Night in the 70's.

  • im trying 2 learn, i just dont practice enough..but he is superb

  • He's so damn great =D

  • Wow!

  • That was friggin awsome!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow! Truly blessed brother.

  • Hey brother you don't have to give your right arm to play like TE . most people put there guitar back in the case .BAD MOVE, it should be no more then 3 feet from your reach as you watch tv.

i think you got it ,good luck armless.

  • Okay I gotta get the name of the song.

  • @Raittarian It's called Old Fashioned Love Song

  • awesum!!! s0unds s0 much 1ike the farmvi11e tune!!!

  • I hope you love Ry Cooder Thats what I was thinking of when I was listening

    to this.

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT

  • the way he plays, is the definition of having a good time.

  • i would defiantly pay to see him play

  • 64 tonedeaf bastards was here. lol

  • the best guitarist ever!!!

  • 64 morons, just saying lol

  • What is the name of the song? I know it and and heard it many times but for some reason "can't put my finger on it".

  • Just an old-fashioned love song... It took me a minute :-)

  • Tommy is fantastic, I agree, but the best, hmmmmm, way too many genres of guitar playing to be best, he;d have play all of them best, but I'd say that Tommy could any of them well, for sure!

  • holey moley...that was awesome.

  • Absolutely fantastic !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Master of his machine is Tommy, great artist. Love to see Him and Phil (Brother) at a show,

  • I saw Tommy play a few years ago in Evansville, Indiana. It's a show I'll never forget. He's absolutely incredible.

  • Tommy Emmanuel is his own kind of wonderful , ain't he? ! Man, that's good!

  • Glad to see Mickey Rourke has given up the body building, and taken up the guitar...he's not too bad!

  • To me Tommy Emmanuel is THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER OF NOWDAYS AND ONE OF THE BEST EVER!!!

I know I might be wrong, but if I am, it's certainly by very little

  • @markushalfmad you ain't wrong, my friend!

  • @markushalfmad

Guitar world is too huge, with classical guitar, flamenco, brazilian, latin, jazz, rock, pop, blues, country and hundreds of other styles of music and styles of guitar playing. But he's def one of the best acoustic fingerstyle guitar players.

  • @ConfortinDEADHORSE yeah, I know what you mean, defining who exactly is the best is quite impracticable within such universe of guitar players and styles and tastes - but I bet he can play any style he wants, and very well. But, as I said, to me....

What I like most about his playing is his unpredicability, when you lest expect he changes tempo and key and style - all very swiftly. and the notes all sound cristal clear

  • Woah... Tim Robbins can shred!

  • meh.....

  • Cool baby. Melody, bass, and solo from one guitar.

  • Is Tommy just improvising here or is this an actual track? If he is doin' some improv - WOW!

  • Old Fashion Love Song, love 3 dog night and love tommy!!!!

  • So clever, so skillfull - he's the master.

  • Amazing skill. But have you ever attended one of his concerts? I almost fell asleep.

  • What skill! So much for beautiful tone...

  • Just for those that have not watched any of Tommy's videos before, he has played with Chet and Chet was his early infuence

  • Is he doing polyrhythms?

  • @tazabilly if by polyrhythyms you mean playing a melody on top of a bassline, that have different rhythms, then yes he is.

  • He's playing like he has fifteen fingers!!

  • Though Tommy has his own technique and fantastic style, you can certainly hear the Chet Atkins influence in this one. Really great.

  • I would give my right arm to be able to pla... Oh, wait...

  • @bbkingzor Yeah, you might need that one for something else mate...maybe the left eh? :D

  • @bbkingzor How about keep your right arm but give your left... o never mind

  • @bbkingzor have you seen the guy play with no arms?

  • Not Bad.

  • perhaps this guy was inspired by Chet Atkins? Obviously, he has played a few years, and yes He's friggin good!!!!!

  • Utterly jaw-dropping. How can you not love this guy?

  • Holy crap get the name right! It's Tommy Emmanuel

  • I am a fusion guitarist , i have been playing guitar for 16 years and i have came across all this guitarist , John Mclaughlin , joe satarini, steve vai , al di meyola , u name it all the big guitarist , i mean they all are so good in there own part, but when i came to Tommy Emmanuel , its just been a week and i am so shocked , every time i watched his playing i couldn't take my eyes off, its always jaw dropping , so sensitive,so rocking ,so emotional , such a control. I mean he just MASTRED it.

  • Never heard of the guy, until now! Wow! Fantastic!

  • @lgcrooks

such is the miracle of YouTube

  • just an old fashion love song-three dog night.

  • whats this song called?

  • he's at Pepperdine end of Jan

  • Makes Eddie van Halen look like a retard.

  • @SpartanPict Check out what Steve Vai says in an interview about this guy!

  • nigelngern Just an Old Fashioned Love Song by Three Dog Night.

  • 1. Guys, this is nothing! Type in Tommy Emmanuel somewhere over the rainbow.

    2. Watch

    3. Let the mass burning of guitars begin.

  • Anyone know what song this is? I think he's playing it in drop D.

  • @nigelngern you are correct, but others are dropped also, I think he is playing this song in D-A-D-G-A-D tunning. you can see on the end how he tunned it back to E using A string as a refferé, he is doing few riffs that looks like he is playing in DADGAD.

I could be wrong, I have not tryed to play the song yet myself.

  • @Imerajuttoq This song is in drop D. You can see him hitting a d chord at 0.09, for example. There are transcriptions of this song on the web. Just search for "Tommy Emmanuel just an old fashioned love song" and it shuld come out in the first results.

  • @Zebarbas Never doubted it was in drop D tunning, but look at some riffs he is doing in open D, the two bottom strings are not regularly tunned, looks like the B string is tuned a full tone down to A and the E string is in D, making it DADGAD tunning instead of regular DADGBE

  • @Imerajuttoq Well, I'm afraid i'll have to politely disagree with you on this. As I said, you can hear him hitting a D chord (between 0:02 and 0:03) on the B and G strings as is on standard tuning, so i'm pretty confident that the B string is tuned to B. Also, the transcripts of this particular live version are online, and can be found with a simple search. So you're aganist the transcriber also, as he says DADGBE, and the fingering is very close to that of the video.

  • @Zebarbas Actually if you start at 0:02 you miss my point. Starting at 0:01 you can see him clearly fretting a standard D chord on the second and third strings.

  • @Zebarbas Ahhh, I see it now, I was just watching a part where he looked like to do a riff on open E string (The one he tunned down to D). but he got one of his 11 fingers pushed down on second fret to make it an E.

  • His brother Phil is a better guitarist from a technical POV, but Tommy has always been the showman. Still one of the best on the planet.

  • although this is great, and dont get me wrong, he's fantastic, ive always thought tommy's been too showy, and cocky. just my opinion.

  • Damn he's a freak!

  • Thank you Tommy, you just saved me a couple of bucks.. i have no need for new strings anymore..

  • DAMN!!!! Awesome Playing!!!!!

  • My guitar goes on Craig's List tomorrow.............awsome playing.

  • Im sorry this BUT F*CK (SLOW HAND) CLAPTON, this is Boss!!!

  • If I didn't say it before, I am saying it now, BAD ASS.......

  • Great, he's on fire!

  • made for you and me

  • How can anyone dislike this!! Seriously people!

  • @Ssav080 50 viewers sneezed when they were about to click "Like"...

  • @Ssav080 metal kids. for the most part. they think blazing through scales is the pinnacle of achievement on a guitar.

  • @Ssav080 Those who are deaf dumb blind ignorant stupid weak minded oh wait I just named every idiot out there that thinks todays pop music is music.

  • @Ssav080 cause rwj convinced everyone, everything but him is fake and gay

  • Hmmm, that empty spot in my closet looks about the perfect size for my guitar case...

  • I burned my acoustic the first night I heard him. Made a nice fire. : )

  • Really amazing...

  • "This song is featuring my bass player.... Tommy´s Thumb!" Tommy Emmanuel

  • Guitar for sale...........

  • wherzzzz d supa like button?????

  • 40 folks like heavy metal crap I would guess,,,THIS IS THE REAL STUFF ON 6 STRINGS,,PERIODDDDDD.

  • @jimbo4261 There's nothing wrong with metal, and there's nothing wrong with this style either. But if you think this is the 'real stuff' or the 'difinitive' for 6string, then you sir, need to do some more musical soul searching before commenting. Why don't you do a search for true musical brilliance on 6strings; here I'll help you get started: Segóvia. People like what they like but tend to share their opinions with everyone as if it is the only opinion.

  • @DpsBot ; "" People like what they like but tend to share their opinions with everyone as if it is the only opinion."":---- How about accepting your own advice?????

  • @1954tele I'm sorry, but where in my statement does it imply that the opinion that I shared is the ONLY opinion that matters and is the only truth? I'm simply trying to broaden someones horizon. I haven't criticized a particular genre unlike jimbo, and I certainly haven't made a statement that the classical style of guitar playing "IS THE REAL STUFF ON 6 STRINGS. PERIOD."

  • At its most beautiful ?? Somebody is tone deaf

  • Just an old fashioned love song by Paul Williams I think

  • What song is this?

  • One guitar isn't supposed to do all that!!...LOL whoever is clicking on ''dislike'' are just jealous unemployed lame wannabe freeloaders hanging out in their mamas basement. This guy is pulling off some serious finger style.....

  • Thank you Tommy-dancing while I drink my coffee-gooooood stuff!

  • This ending riff will always make me dream.

  • You could never over rate Tommy as a guitar player, he's great. But how over rated is his Maton guitar? I know it's a personal thing but the tone of a Maton is plain AWFUL!

  • @jdanton Have you heard it live? watch tommy play questions on his Maton Messiah they make a lot of different guitars like anyone else.

  • It's just him!!

  • This guy is a genius!

  • when i grow up i wanna play like TOMMY !!!

  • I don't know about beautiful but freakin' awesome!!

  • after 18.5 seconds I've already decided to trade my guitar for the kazoo

  • @phulan32 After hearing Chet Atkins playing Chopin I started looking for a guitar that suited me. Even if I can't make the same sound, I want at least a part of it for my own.

This piece is confirmation that I'm on the right path.

  • @phulan32

Or a set of spoons. Or maybe an elastic bad stretched between my thumb and index finger. I'm looking forward to rocking with that.

  • @phulan32 That's just stinkin' thinkin'! You're good enough; you're smart enough and, doggone it, people like you!

  • @phulan32 In reply to a comment you made two weeks ago about trading in your guitar after listening to Tommy Emmanuel: that's silly! I know that your words are only half-hearted because once you fall in love with playing guitar, that's it! So, listen to and enjoy great guitar playing and see it as a goal to be reached. Isn't it good to know others can play so well!! It's become one of my purposes in life, too.

  • @Teachering The goal of course, is simply to have fun.. most of the time. So to someone thinking of quitting, just look at how much fun Tommy is having and let that be your goal.

  • @phulan32 ditto!

  • @phulan32 That is you were always a better cocksucker.

  • @phulan32 after :10 I've already.... picked myself up off the floor!
