Hey Dizzy Doug, I am a mobile DJ, wanting to upgrade from my Behringer 1002fx mixer, because I need more Mic inputs now, would this be a good upgrade? I have been extremely pleased over the years with the Behringer, not sure why I see Alot of people badmouthing them? How did you feel about yours too?
@DizzyDougTV Thanks for answering. One more question. haha Would a preamp on an interface such as Presonus interfaces be better than the pres in Mackies?
i have an audio interface, the m-audio fast track ultra. is mixer better than an audio interface? i'm thinking of switching to a mixer. also, any latency issues in using a mixer when connected to the computer?
Have you done a recap review after using the unit for a while? I really want to get an audio mixer for my video editing setup and just want to make sure this is the right unit for me. I am not sure if should go with this or something smaller from Mackie.
@JohnnyIceProductions Recording a guitar amp or an acoustic guitar? You would use XLR mics for either, but with drums you'd have 5 - 7 of them, one for bass drum, one for snare, one for Hi - Hat, and overheads for cymbols and Toms, though you might mic up each tom individually too.
@JohnnyIceProductions One mic for drums? You'd get a pretty rough recording, and you wouldn't be able to alter volumes and EQ for mixing. However, if you did go down that route, you'd buy a condenser microphone which uses XLR and phantom power. The mixer in this video has that. The condenser mic would be good for recording an acoustic guitar if you needed it, and great for vocals.
im also prefering to have the slide thing and i like to play with the digital effects i´m usin just a m-audio fast track audiobox wich has a xlr in and jack in rca out and headphones out it is usb connected and has a phantom power on the xlr channel i use it with pro tools SE. and i would like to know the mackie you unboxed has an autotune device built in it
im icelandic and not good in english i hope you can read this whithout a problem
hey i just started getting into recording and i was wondering if the mackie wud be good for me i havnt got all my equitment yet but i will soon but first im doing my homework and brushing up on some things but just wondering is a mackie only for the mac? or for both mac and pc cuz i hav a pc so please reply back to me asap
Just returned this mixer to store, very disappointed. I have the CFX 12 and wanted to reduce the size as we only need 6/8 channels now . I had already tried the DFX before and dismissed it as no good. The preamps in these models are in NO-WAY equivalent to the CFX's . I am a pro- user and need the best sound I can obtain for performance, the pro-fx8 was dull, boom'y, and lacked the headroom plus the effects were not as good . I have a US made desk from the early period , and will stay with it.
@DizzyDougTV .. i try it in english.. cause i'm from the little switzerland..
I playing in a band, we are 5 members. and we want try to start record with professional mics. is Pro FX8 good? and can i use it for my Windwods 7 64bit? computer?...
@DizzyDougTV care to expand on that as that can be misleading especially if fans of your show want to emulate your style - that said the bst secret sauce is the free Levelator :)P
@widowsbreath Nope. I don't. What would a secret sauce be if I told you how to do it? At this time, i will not be telling you how to record a live podcast with co-hosts, and mix in audio questions live so that you and you co-hosts can all hear it. LIVE.
Strike 2....Levelator is only a post processing tool. One that if you know what you're doing, you can do a much better job with other tools.
@DizzyDougTV its called mix minus its no secret :) anyone can google it - for telephone get a gentner DH20/22 or a telos one/JK audio if you live in the states use talkshoe :) for call management i dont understand why people dress up this as something more complicated than it is - there are no secrets - i think sharing knowledge is healthy though and removes barriers to exclusivity may wish they (podcast elitists) had
I have the older mackie DFX 6 which is very good as I sing and play guitar.
Your right the mackie pre's are incredible.
On Amazon some of the user reviews stated that there were problems with this mixer's USB connection. Some state that there is a high pitch noise comes through when connected to your computor.
Maybe mackie have sorted out this problem I don;t know , How is yours? does it work ok?
Hi Doug... Where did u purchase your Mackie ProFX8. Virtually every retailer can't get them in stock because Mackie changed production to a differrent factory. New stock keeps getting pushed back til' at least mid-March/10.
I'm looking at buying this one or the Onyx 1620. I did notice the the FW mixers cannot control anything but gain with the FW interface, which may make the USB version more appealing. Great video.

So did you prefer this one over the Alesis?
LiveLimitlessTv 3 weeks ago
@LiveLimitlessTv Absolutely. Preamps are much cleaner. Plus, the ProFX has faders, whereas the Multimix has nobs.

@LiveLimitlessTv The Firepod? If so, better than this one, yes. Better than higher end Mackie's? Not sure. Probably not.

Would the Mackie proFX8 work as a USB Audio interface for a PC or is it just a mixer?

@AndroidNate All USB audio devices act as a an audio interface.

@danrulezinit Well thanks for the advice for the guitar... But if you were going to use just 1 mic for the drums what would you suggest?

Does the USB allow multi-track recording? Or do all the mixer inputs get recorded as one track within the the DAW?

Would you choose this over a Behringer XENYX 1204FX?
I need a new soundcard for recording and the Line 6 just isnt doing it for me so i decided to go for a usb mixing desk.
I need it to work in XP (studio) and Windows 7 64bit (quick youtube videos).

The options and flexibility that a mixer gives you for recording audio is worth it.
Now if I can just keep myself from constantly twinkering with the EQ like I have with the previous mixers I've owned, I should be ok..LOL.....
